Super heros 76040 brainiac attack found at Target!

So we are new collectors but first time to any forums. Yesterday we were at target and found 3 of the 76040 brainiac attack sets.
I grabbed them all and asked if they had any more. They told me each store only got 3. The reciept said pre production release
Brick set. Anybody know anything about this? Pre production release info? I can't find any info about this set being released other than just speculation. Our local lego store knew nothing about it and it's not listed in the 2015 lego catalog. My brother lives in another city and i tipped him off, he found 2 sets.

@Kralaskan Nice find! If you still have it, would you mind posting the DCPI from the receipt?

It's definitely being released, it's just a matter of when. It's in the German catalog with a release date of April. If you're finding it now in the US, it may be released here earlier.

The one thing I have trained myself on about LEGO was for any 'standard' line set (Superheroes, City, Castle, SW, etc) to wait until it is on sale before purchasing, many times even for my own collection. You save a TON on money doing this as almost all sets in a standard line wind up on sale at one point or another (especially on Amazon). The exception to this rule for me are the LEGO 'exclusives' that, in the US, cannot be discounted by anyone, the Ideas sets (as seen with Research Institute) where getting one at that time may be beneficial, and maybe those that are exclusives for a store (but typically those wind up being on sale at some point by that store as well). However, seeing as most Superhero sets are around for at least 1 year I would wait until they are likely discounted somewhere, maybe buying one IF it was for my personal collection (so I do not forget and assume I have one later when they end of line at LEGO).
I guess there is always profit taking (i.e. getting them in the store and trying to sell them on eBay to someone who cannot wait the whole 10-30 days to get it when available in their neck of the woods) but I tend not to try that as typically you do not make enough to make it worth it, IMO.

From Boise Idaho. We are near boise. The target we got our sets at said the other store also had 3 sets. That explains where they are

@Kralaskan Thanks for posting the receipt.

According to BrickSeek, it looks like the availability of this set is still pretty limited. :(

^ Was there a clearance sticker or a sign posting the discount?
  • KralaskanKralaskan Member Posts: 208
Yes, at Shopko. Was on the clearance rack. That's the best price we have seen.
Figured they might go down more after Christmas

This seems like the correct thread to add this in.... I found Minecraft today at Target. I am shocked they are putting even that out early! I had picked up everything except the mine and cave, and regretted not picking up the cave. I nabbed it today. I looked for any of the sets with a new unikitty, but there were none. What was difficult, though, was not buying that summer beach cottage set, since it will go great with the beach house display I have.

It's ridiculous how excited I get over new sets, but a month or so later I'm really tired over seeing the same stuff.

  • KralaskanKralaskan Member Posts: 208
I got a manta set today. They had 3 of them. Also saw the new Star Wars proto tie fighter set but for $40 thought it was too much. some new city sets and new China sets were out.
Target had a bunch of sets on clearance. Bad cops pursuit for $17. Emmett mech for $51
    Nailed them both.

I went to Walmart, Walgreens, and Target looking for little plastic bags to store minifigures and couldn't find any...ended up buying them at a smoke shop :)

But while at those stores I checked the LEGO isle, Walmart was barren Walgreens had nothing new, but Target had a lot of the new Super Hero sets.
    I saw
    #76025
    #76026
    #76028
    #76040

Also saw the minecraft farm I think, a few star wars sets, most notably the new mini ships.
Didn't pick up anything, am trying not to buy anything unless its some kind of sale, but hearing how rare a find this might have been I'm tempted to go back and buy one...

^ When it comes to Lego Super Heroes I am weak. Instant buy for me... Good thing I haven't run across any yet.

Me too, instant buy. Our local toys r us still has the arctic batman sets, a bunch of them too.
I hoarded 7 of them. Still a lot on the shelf. Toys r us had no new super heros but had lots of
Mine craft, not into that at all.
