A local toy store of mine literally had at least 80-100 of these piled high on the shelf.

Wow. Well, I still appreciate that @cheshirecat‌ sent me one from the UK, when it looked like all hope was lost and my daughter was crying because they were sold out. I will be able to tell her the story on Christmas morning. Of her amazing father and his very nice friends. :)

Picked up one yesterday at the Wauwatosa, WI store...they seemed to have quite a few. We already have so many things for the girls for Christmas that this will be saved for a later date.

Interestingly, these just appeared on ebay sold by Target for 20 - free shipping. For as long as they last it is going to kill ebay prices. Yet the Target website itself says "pre-order". Odd they would sell them on ebay first...
  • BumblepantsBumblepants Member Posts: 7,729
Well if Target and Walmart are getting them that surely means Lego is cranking out a ton of these now and shouldn't be tough to find much longer.

Yeah they are also all gone already. Im guessing most will appear on eBay in the next 7-10 business days

I think this is one Ideas set that TLG has decided to ramp up production on. Clearly they have no issue with this which is great..
  • pharmjodpharmjod Member Posts: 2,916
It could go either way. Personally though, if you want one and haven't gotten one, I would definitely try to get it when you see it on someplace like Target Ebay or Wal-Mart or wherever. It is entirely possible LEGO made one more large run to placate upset customers and that is it. Once it is gone it could stay that way. I can tell you for certain many of the BP gang have publicly stated they will buy this at every opportunity in whatever quantity they can.

Also, FWIW, this message now accompanies the Research Institute's page on SAH:
This set was overwhelmingly popular and is no longer available for purchase. Limited quantity is expected at LEGO® Brand retail locations the week of December 14, 2014. Please check back for the new LEGO® Ideas set in January!

It's still available, the listing is just acting strange.

Was just at the Lego store at Watertower Chicago and they have both RI and Exo Suit in stock.
  • margotmargot Member Posts: 2,308
Watertower Chicago store gets 45 RI's in a week. I think on Tuesdays.

Seems to work for me, at what point does it get stuck? I don't want another one so I'm not going to click on pay.
  • madforLEGOmadforLEGO Member Posts: 10,836
You have to keep trying, the listing has been acting weird. Though they could be near sold out, however if you see the number 'Sold' keep rising then you can still buy them.
What I did was tried to buy (entered paypal info) then submitted when it failed with that error (like 'none are available, if you keep receiving this error...') I just used the 'back' button to the checkout screen and tried to pay again, and repeated that until I got the confirmation of success. You will not get billed until you succeed as well, at least that is what occurred with me. Now I will say I did buy last night, so they could be low on stock now, but I keep seeing the number sold rise as I type this so I presume they still have them
  • margotmargot Member Posts: 2,308
    ^that works
  • madforLEGOmadforLEGO Member Posts: 10,836
Just got my shipping notification for mine (ordered last night).
  • JasoMacJasoMac Member Posts: 26
This is very frustrating. I tried this last night when there were about 150 sold and assumed they were all out so I gave up. I came back today and saw this post and that they were now at around 300 sold so I tried again, and again, and about 30 more times after that all with the same result. I just went back to the link to see if they were sold out, they're at over 350 sold but I keep getting the same results when I try. I'm going to keep trying, I'll post something if I have any luck.
  • JasoMacJasoMac Member Posts: 26
So now I feel stupid. I went back to repeating the process and after only four more tries it went through. I guess I just had to complain about it for it to work.

S@H Europe: Research Institute is sold out again.
  • madforLEGOmadforLEGO Member Posts: 10,836
I think LEGO is torn to make it more available as it keeps becoming available even though they keep saying it will not be. Then retailers are getting them here (at least in the US) albeit not large quantities but still
