What are the most desirable minifigs?

Yes, there are a number of ways of measuring desirability.

Instead of ranking by financial value, you could always ask - if you could only keep 10 minifigs, which ones would they be.

I know there would not be many high value minifigs in my top ten.

^I'd keep my most expensive 10, then sell them and buy the ones I wanted.

That wouldn't be *keeping* them though. So make it Desert Island Minifigs, where you have no ability to swap / sell them.

    Desert island blocks.

Coming to a copy of blocks magazine shortly...

Each month a distinguished lego guest ("castaway") is asked to choose eight Lego sets, a Lego book and a special minifigure that they would take if they were to be cast away on a desert island, whilst discussing their lives and the reasons for their choices.

Probably best that they get given the UCS MF and taj mahal (complete works of Shakespeare and bible) automatically.

For me, the most desirable figs are mostly Ninjago characters, particularly recurring characters like the five Ninja, Nya, Wu, and Garmadon. Maybe some LEGO Movie characters as well. I'm probably something of an outlier in this case, though, at least from an AFOL standpoint.

There are plenty of figs that I have nostalgia for (like King Kahuka, who I dressed up as for Halloween around a decade ago). But my emotional connection to those characters is rooted in the past, not in the present, and I spend much more time looking at and playing with minifigures from more recent sets, which feature detailed designs and captivating stories. Thanks to the Internet, I can experience nostalgia for an older fig just fine without actually having the fig in front of me, or even in my personal collection.

The funny thing when talking about desirability is that it doesn't always line up neatly with the most VALUABLE figs. Figs that command a high price usually do so on account of their rarity, but they're also often more "niche" from a design standpoint. Take the black-suit Superman, for instance. On one hand, it's much rarer than Superman in his default red and blue costume, but on the other hand, it's hardly the character's most iconic appearance. If you could only have one Superman figure ever, without the option of selling or trading it, I think a lot of people would choose the most recognizable version, the same way that I think most Unikitty fans would prefer to have one of the pink variants rather than her angry or queasy variant, or most Johnny Thunder fans would have him in some variant of his classic tan shirt rather than his brown coat from the Himalayan leg of Orient Expedition.

^ Superman is an interesting one.

For me, I'd pick sh003, no doubt about it. Christopher Reeve was (and still is) Superman.

I wonder if teens would pick sh077 instead?

I'm not really a comic book / graphic novel reader, so my bias is from the films.

I guess there is something similar for Batman, sh111 probably just about wins it for me, over the other greys and blues. Although I do like the more recent darker versions too, moreso than Superman.

@CCC‌ that is an awesome way to determine desirability.

@Aanchir‌ I couldn't agree more with your superman comparison.

Even though I have my exclusive SH Minifigs, if I could only have 10 MFs the NYTF Ironman and Captain America would be there because lets face it, they are super cool. Symbiote Spiderman, bizzaro, and the collector would be the only other ones I'd keep. To round out my list would be chrome c3po, cloud city boba fett, blacktron, the Spartan, and im torn between chrome Vader and Santa Vader.

I spent a fair amount of time trying to hunt these 5 Mickey Mouse Figures down. They are pretty hard to find in good condition. In your opinion, do you consider these minifigures?

3 X Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse and Pluto.

Also, now that Disney and Lego are working together, do you think we will get more Mickey Mouse figures and other characters? I think that these are pretty special and so few of them exist as well. I had to order mine from Europe to get a good set of them.

I went into storage and hunted down all of the magazines when the solid gold c-3p0 was originally given away by lego and posted them here along with everything that I know about the figures.

Great article, thanks for taking the time to put this together.

I reckon I could go $10,000 for one of those babies! After all, the Superhero preview figs go for $1,000+ and these are way rarer.

I agree. I think 10 grand would be the price as well.

Do any of you know were this George Lucas figure came from or how many were produced. I can only find vague answers anywhere. I included an auction to one that sold.

I'm only into classic minifigs and they don't tend to rare, desirable and/or expensive

The only one I can think of is this guy

    image

I got one with perfect goldtrim  of which there's none for sale at BL (no perfect torso either), so you'd have to get a 400$ MISB 6083

I gotta look at the George Lucas mf i have. I got it from a friend with some other mf (stopped collecting Lego

On a micro scale, I would agree that price has nothing to do with desirability. I want what I like. On a macro scale, however, the price one is willing to pay is directly proportional to the item's desirability.

I do not think the question can really be answered. My answer is completely different than what any one my kids would say.

Did you ever look at this and see if it is the same one?  DO you know where and how you picked it up?

I don't know how to tell if it is legit. My friend got it as a gift for his wedding. He used to be really into SW mf but stopped collecting since it cost so much for him to make a complete collection
