#71016 - Kwik-E-Mart

LostInTranslationLostInTranslation Member Posts: 5,572
I was just browsing the 2015 sets in the database and saw this entry, priced at €199.99.
I hadn't heard anything about this but I'm hoping it looks as good as the Simpsons house but has better minifigs and then I might buy it.

Who do we think will be in this set, besides Apu?

There surely has to be Snake?

Other than that, perhaps the bullies (Nelson, Jimbo, Kearney and Dolph) and of course Jasper Beardsley in the freezer.

Jasper and Snake would be great, and I assume Apu will be there again. Maybe Manjula or Apu's brother Sanjay or the Squishee Lady.

Although it will probably be Bart and Milhouse buying squishees. Or Homer getting a hot dog.

I'd like to see a James Woods.

  • Other than the power plant, which I would of preferred to see especially at that price point. The Kwik-E-Mart is the only other mainstay setting in the Simpsons as TLG stay away from alcohol and religious settings.

Maybe we'll see Bart and Millhouse in their Junior campers uniforms post Squishee bender.

There has been leaked images going around of test moulds of heads and there was a Snake. Doesn't guarantee we'll get him in the set as it just be the Simpsons CMF series 2.

I think the Snake mould is for series 2 of the CMF. I can't see LEGO having a set with a holdup artist as a main character. But then again they have generic baddies in the Police City sets.

I would argue that the elementary school is just as much used a setting as the Kwik E Mart or power plant...maybe more. Let's hope they continue with at least a few more location sets to fill out Springfield...

The school also has a decent number of characters too ... Skinner, Krabapple, Willie, maybe Otto. And then the lesser characters such as Chalmers. Although hopefully we'll be getting some of the in the CMF.

Any rumours on smaller sets for the line? If there were only two quite expensive sets then they're surely limiting their market for the Simpsons line.

Having said that, I can't see what could be done successfully on a smaller scale. Maybe Jebediah or a small Comic shop but I struggle to think of anything else.
  • CCCCCC Member Posts: 20,526
I hope they do what they did before - no small sets, just one large one and the CMF. It's a more cost effective way of getting the characters. Especially if there is nothing new in the larger set, just variants.

I agree a lot of storylines are set at the school and there are a high number of characters that could be included in such a set.
The issue I have with a set based on Springfield Elenentry it would essentially be a series of large rooms with little detail or furniture other than chairs and desks.
  • CCCCCC Member Posts: 20,526
I doubt the rooms would be that large, maybe four or six desks. Just like the house, everything would be scaled down.
  • natro220natro220 Member Posts: 545
Yeah, if they were to do the school, they'd only have to do two classrooms, one for Bart's class and one for Lisa's, and fill them each out with a couple classmates and a teacher. Add Skinner and Willie, Skinner's office, maybe the lunchroom...I think you'd have a pretty good looking set.

I thought the Friends school was pretty good as a template.

In an ideal world the quik e mart would fit in scale wise with the modularity. But the price and scale of the house suggests it will be a larger scale.

The school is more likely to be in a third wave.
Because we have recently had the Friends Heartlake High, which is not EoL yet

This LEGO Simpsons theme has a very different maketing strategy: A direct to consumer set and a collectable minifigures series each year.

I think it's a little early to make a blanket statement that Lego has a marketing strategy. They did one large set and one CMF series. Hardly a large sample size.

I've heard a lot of people mention a simpsons cmf series 2, is that confirmed? I rally hope not, don't want more simpsons cluttering up my regular minifigs.

Is the Simpsons house #71006 going to retire soon since they are coming out with the Kwik-E-Mart?

I would like to see Simpsons sets I only manage to get 6 Simpsons figures so they are quite harder to get over actual sets.

I'm sure it's a bestseller so it will probably be around for another year or two.

Keeping my fingers crossed that this will be a modular, or modularisable to fit into my city

    Not officially as yet.

    * SPOILER BELOW (in white) *

But from new molds that have been published elsewhere we know that Dr Hibbert, Smithers, Snake, Willie, Comic Book Guy, Prof Frink, Santa's Little Helper, Patty / Selma are coming. I cannot see them all appearing in the Kwik-e-Mart.

Simpsons CMFs are easy to find in the UK.

I can see them not wanting to put snake pointing a gun at Apu on the box, but I see no reason why he might not be lurking around somewhere, ready to rob the place. Or you never know he might be in his car (I think it was called something like the little bandit) or even getting arrested by chief Wiggum.
I think he's likely for the set and the CMF line, while some of the other moulds that have been leaked might be characters that will appear in the Kwik-e-Mart the only characters that are better known for being at the Kwik-e-mart (aside from Apu + Simpsons Family members) we've had no indication of getting them yet.

^Doesn't that just scream of the sort of thing TLG would typically choose. I think it would be without the Snake with Gun graphic on the side if they did it though - but I wouldn't put anything past TLG at this point.

I wasn't clear: they are easy to find but are a hard purchase because I like the building aspect of LEGO. Now they are releasing so many amazing sets it's the collectable minifigures that get left out. Unless I'm short of a couple of pounds in particular purchases in stores.
  • CCCCCC Member Posts: 20,526
OK. I more of a moc'cer than a set builder so I use the CMF for inspiring my own builds. So for me they are perfect!

The other mainstay in Springfield is the comic book shop. Honestly, if there is a 2016 Simpsons set, it would be either the power station or the comic book shop... or possibly Bart's Tree House of Horrors = EPIC HOLLOWEEN SET! yeah, I shouted a little.... might have bounced up and down a bit, too :p Still, I'd love the comic book shop with Bart in superhero costume.
