I would like it to have a 6 stud wide alleyway (most likely on the right hand side) it would defiantly be a cool new layout, maybe it could have some type of graffiti on the walls.

If it's "split in two with an alleyway in between" then the alley can't be on one side or the other.

The more I think about it, the more I'm interested in seeing how the alley has been implemented. If each building were on a 16x32 baseplate, with the alley on the side of one, there would be no connection points on the alley side. This suggests two buildings, separated by the alley, on one 32x32 baseplate.

If you look at the left side of the Green Grocer and Parisian Restaurant they have small extended walls for the Technic pins, so they would do the same where they could do small builds where the connection points would be; however then there would be a stability issue and I'm sure LEGO is capable of such situation.

Why not just have the alleyway on one of two 16x32 plates? After all, it only needs to be about 3 or 4 studs wide.

Perhaps it is a dead-end alleyway with a brick wall or fence at the end with boxes and crates and dumpsters crammed in like a typical tv crime scene area.

Yeah, I was thinking they could use a dumpster or pile of boxes for the connection points. But the GG and PR each have only one "weak" point whereas an alley would need two. I suppose the back of the alley could be walled in and have more structural integrity.

As above, it doesn't seem like the connection points would work. Unless you're referring to an alley in the middle of a 16x32 plate, in which case I don't see the need for separate plates.

Yep, I missed that detail, an alleyway on the side could defiantly work if I you have a dead end. This all sounds so awesome I really could see this being so cool It's sounds like it could be my next modular as I only have the Pet Shop #10218. I don't want to change the subject but this makes me really want to watch Gotham right now (UK: 9pm, Monday 13th October, Channel 5)

    I need pictures...NOW!

^^First episode of Gotham was quite good, surprisingly even with real good acting performances by everyone (except Bruce). It posed a question I never even thought of before, was Thomas Wayne's mugging a random encounter or was it orchestrated?

I'd prefer a printed tile of course, but that would be expecting too much.

I meant, for example, one stud for a wall (at the edge of the baseplate), then 4 studs for the alleyway, then one stud for the wall that also forms the internal wall.

@BrickDancer - It varies from one source to another. In some it is just a mugging, in others it is made to look like a mugging but is actually organised by various crime families. I am pleased to hear that I was not the only person on Brickset who enjoyed Gotham, apart from the shooting itself which I think should be much faster and contain less talking personally. Bruce's scream was cringeworthy.

Anyway, back on topic: I am growing to like this idea more and more as it initially seemed like something which would be unable to live up to expectations due to limitations around bars and the like. The alleyway sounds like an interesting addition, although I am not convinced that a dank alley would be found just down the road from a rather swanky restaurant, department store and cinema.

I believe that we have got stickers with only one Modular Building, that being the Palace Cinema. If it is a graphic on a large area then expect a sticker otherwise LEGO Creator sets don't have stickers often.

The alleyway addition might translate into a brick subtraction.

Like Jaime Berard said in the Parisian Restaurant #10243 designer video: in the restaurant they put the bricks inside the building to add a fully furnished interior. So in this case they would figure out some other place to use those bricks, again best to use it to furnish the interior levels which were one of the best highlights of the restaurant and I'm pretty sure they want to stay at that level or to even go beyond the details of the previous modular building.

If you look behind all of the modular buildings, there is some sort of alleyway behind the buildings, could it relate to this. Typical as well that I build an alleyway for my Modulars and they go and create one.
  • mathewmathew Member Posts: 2,096
I would expect something that will closely match the Parisian Restaurant in design and styling. Should be good.

Here's my thoughts on this alley business. Perhaps it will be a 4-stud wide alley down the middle of the 32x32 plate with 1x6 arches over it, connecting the two separated buildings. Then the buildings sort of become one building on the second floor. Just a thought.

Sounds like it'll be a great new modular!
  • T_LarsT_Lars USAMember Posts: 104
My guess: Both a 10 or 12 wide alleyway and one of the buildings on a 32x32 base plate which somehow connects to the other building which is on a 16x32. I'm thinking the connection points in the alleyway would be hidden in a dumpster or some other random junk.

^ I think the same, although perhaps with a slightly wider alleyway of six or eight studs.

^I think between 6 and 8 studs is the best option, as having a wider alleyway will allow for more details to be added like creates, boxes and dumpsters.

And perhaps a side fire exit from the bar??

Or just two separate buildings with no connection. Although that will up the brick count. I doubt the overall footprint will vary from 32x32.

Yes a fire exit of the side would be really cool and another reason to re-enact the Wayne deaths :)

Perhaps but it doesn't match the terms and conditions on LEGO Ideas, which gives you an idea on what types of stuff LEGO doesn't like in their models.

Projects related to the topics below do not fit our brand values and will not be approved for publication on LEGO Ideas. We will decide how a project fits these standards.

    a. Politics and political symbols

    b. Religious references including symbols, buildings, or people

    c. Sex, drugs, or smoking

    d. Alcohol in any present day situation

    e. Swearing

    f. Death, killing, blood, terrorism, or torture

    g. First-person shooter video games

    h. Warfare or war vehicles in any modern or present-day situation

    i. Racism, bullying, or cruelty to real life animals

If you look a some of LEGO's products it's possible to change these guidelines such as the Parisian Restaurant #10243 with wine bottles, Christmas/seasonal sets, some sets have skeletons reference to death, Star Wars blasters are acceptable because they are laser guns and finally the Superman: Battle of Smallville #76003 set has "offroader" which is meant to be a military vehicle.

So it is possible if done in a suitable way.

Thats the same deduction I came to as well. That's sad because I was really looking forward to the next modular release!

On another note, poor showing by TLG if they printed in their monthly calendar that today would be the next exclusive release on social media and then it ends up being a couple days before anyways. Maybe today was the "official" release with photos, etc? I don't know really but still disappointed.

I'm guessing the next modular will not be available until next year. Looking at the listings we get one per year, the Parisian Restaurant was 2014. The Detective Agency will be a 2015 set

Just reading over at Eurobricks, and it looks like user Nesquik has seen and can confirm that this set has an alleyway down the middle and a bar.

I'm pretty glad about that as I was all setup and prepared to look like a total nob noob if I'd been wrong with this info. I'll be even happier when someone else can confirm the pool table.

a Bar? Well I suppose it is for adult collectors and there have been plenty of sets with wine glasses and bottles. There is also a drunk elf in one of the Hobbit sets (though not labeled as such).

I've been very reliably informed that the DeA reveal will be during November at VIP events in certain stores, so I guess we can expect the set images to surface around then.

Wow. You two are dreaming. Of course it's going to be smaller not bigger than previous modulars. Look what they did with the cinema and the restaurant. The trend is clear

Do not worry though, I'm sure they will still charge the 159.99 USD.
Now if it happens to be 149.99 USD again, OK (though I seriously doubt LEGO is going to downsize the price) but in any case, like a moth to a flame Ill be drawn to it.

I'm surprised that we are still talking about this and paying attention. Has any reliable source verified we will see something later this year let alone a Detective Agency? I was CONVINCED it was going to be revealed in early october and like many others I am sure was thoroughly disappointed. Regardless until I see it this time around I wont believe it.

There's a few names on here in the know. Planned launch of January 1st with a rumoured (although unlikely) early VIP release.

Launch of January 1st? Another great marketing tactic, completely miss the Christmas shopping season, wait until everyone has no money and boom, launch!
