Looking to Sell a Few Sets

prof1515prof1515 Member Posts: 1,550
edited December 2011 in Marketplace
I've got too many sets taking up too much space so I've selected a few of my extras to sell. Some were deliberately-purchased extras while some were mistakes ("Whups, I bought that on my last order!") but in any regard I tend to store many MISB in plastic storage bins but I also leave some in the shipping boxes that they arrived in from Lego. So for the most part, barring those that I have noted, unless they were damaged in transit and I'm as-yet unaware (I will confirm on request) these are all factory-sealed in mint-condition boxes.

STAR WARS

6205 V-Wing Fighter
6209 Slave I
6212 X-Wing Fighter
7104 Desert Skiff (NOT MINT: Some shelf wear and a price sticker on box)
7110 Landspeeder (NOT MINT: Some shelf wear and a price sticker on box)
7654 Droids Battle Pack
7655 Clone Troopers Battle Pack
7656 General Grievous' Starfighter
7657 AT-ST
7658 Y-Wing Fighter
7659 Imperial Landing Craft
7662 Trade Federation MTT
7663 Sith Infiltrator
7665 Republic Cruiser
7666 Hoth Rebel Base
7667 Imperial Drop Ship
7668 Rebel Scout Speeder
7752 Count Dooku's Solar Sailer
10144 Sandcrawler

OTHER THEMES
Still need to go through these boxes though I know there's a Cafe Corner in one.

Please note that I said "sell" and not "trade". My goal is to free up some space, not just swap the contents occupying it. Thank you.

Shame. Wrong side of the pond although I am in Vegas for Christmas. Out of curiosity what kind of numbers do you have in mind for the corner and sandcrawler?

    Sandcrawler Info from Bricklink

    Total Lots: 44
    Total Qty: 49
    Min Price: US $260.00
    Avg Price: US $391.02
    Qty Avg Price: US $391.12
    Max Price: US $771.01

The range of prices for New Sealed without note of shelf wear seems to begin around $300 and go all the way to $700+ meaning the average MISB price would probably be above the $400 mark (assuming that their descriptions are accurate and not exagerrated). I will provide photographs of the box and provide a detailed examination and inventory of every square inch of the box if necessary to give you the best possible evaluation of the box's condition. An estimate can be derived from there but if you're just looking for a sandcrawler regardless of box condition, I can guarantee that the ones on Bricklink with "shelf wear" are going to be cheaper.

    Ahh, that was quick... :)

Those $700 sellers are going to be waiting awhile. :) For above $400, I'd sell my MISB 10144 to you. :)

Send me a PM with a package price on the 4 sets I listed please...

I might be interested in the Cafe Corner depending on what you're asking for it.

Sealed 10144 Sandcrawlers go for less than $300 on Ebay, as low as 225.00 and some have free shipping.

I'm interested in 7663, as well as the Indiana Jones sets we discussed long ago if they're still available. I'll send you a PM.

In general, I'm asking low-end to average Bricklink prices based on sets there that are MISB. These aren't just sealed; they're in mint-condition boxes, from a non-smoking home and I'll happily provide photographs of the box from every angle if you want to see them.

Not to say that there aren't honest folks offering actual MISB sets on eBay but my experience is that the majority of "MISB" isn't so. I've had discussions/arguments with sellers on eBay over the term. One insisted MISB stood for "Mint in Sealed Bags", ie. the box had been opened. Another advertised MISB but when you read the actual listing, he too meant "Mint in Sealed Bags" only the bags were sandwich bags, not the bags that the parts came in!

In any regard, if you're just looking for the set and not at all interested in the box I always so go for sets described as having "shelf wear" (provided they're still sealed; unless you aren't picky about getting everything, never buy sets described as having holes in them as that might mean some disreputable person purloined the mini-figures or something).

As for the Cafe Corner, I haven't yet found it (like I said, too many boxes!) but I know it's there with about two dozen other shipping boxes of sets purchased that year so I'll find it. :-)

Finally, yes Rocao I still have those four Indiana Jones sets if you're interested (just checked them a couple hours ago while I was looking for the CC). :-)

@prof1515 - I think your challenge here is that you have a bunch of deal hunters here, you're trying to ask higher end prices from a bunch of cheapskates! (or at least I am anyway).

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lego-Star-Wars-Sandcrawler-10144-MNIB-A-/180745638929

There is an example of a 10144 for sale for $335 including shipping, and it sure looks pretty mint to me. Now perhaps a dozen photos would show otherwise, but he does say MNIB, and he has 100% feedback and sells other Lego, so I doubt he is a huge overgrader.

I'm not posting this to beat you up, rather to point out why your price of $450 to the members of this forum might be a bit much.

If you want to post photos, you can click attach to your message here, that would help your case. However, it is worth pointing out that I have a mint boxed 10144 in the closet and for $450, you can have mine! :) Cause I don't think I'd get that price on the open market for it, mint and all.

Just my 2 cents worth, just trying to help you see the other side of the coin.

Well, I'm not going for the higher end pricing, actually around the lower end MISB pricing (which is about where you'll find the average price on Bricklink). Having had more than my share of bad experiences on eBay and even Bricklink I know how hard it can sometimes be to get MISB (just last month I had a set arrive via Amazon that was described as MISB; turned out their kid opened the damned thing before they had a chance to pack it so they just packed it anyway as if that didn't matter).

I'm open for haggling as I really would like to clear some space. I've presently got three rooms partially-filled floor-to-ceiling with plastic bins and cardboard shipping boxes and I'm running out of space for more (actually of greater concern is that putting them anywhere else might subject them to greater risk of damage). So reasonable haggling isn't out of the question.

For the record, that 10144 is listed as having "very slight handling marks". Not sure what he means by that. He could be glossing over something or being extra picky; only a photo of these marks can say for certain.

Ok, I can't help myself... sorry...

    To give another example:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160687259197

You're asking $75 for 7657, here is one selling on eBay for $50 with free shipping, and the picture looks pretty darn mint to me. Plus, keep in mind that even at the same price, buying on eBay gets me eBay bucks and most importantly, the eBay buyer guaranteeing. So I'd actually want your set for less since you're not paying fees.

I'd buy 7657 from you for $40 including shipping, and not a penny more. Will you do that? Probably not, but the offer is there if you want it...

Your points about "very slight handling marks" are fair, on the other hand, almost every set, even "mint" sets, have those... Just picking the box up once does that.
  • rocaorocao Administrator Posts: 4,290
If prof's asking prices are indeed high, they'll simply go unsold and it'll be up to him to adjust.

Let's not belabor the point beyond what has already been posted since this is a marketplace post and not an advice thread.
  • LegoFanTexasLegoFanTexas Member Posts: 8,404
@rocao - fair enough, sorry if I went too far, as I said, hard to help myself... :)

In fairness however, when someone posts a "defense" post as he did, he invites comments. I did not post my points regarding the prices at first, because I felt it was out of place. Once he posted his "reasoning" behind his prices, I felt it was fair game to comment of those prices.

If you disagree, well then I accept that judgement and will refrain in the future and I'm sorry if there was any offence, because none was intended.

^ I agree that it was an exchange, and I'm fine with how it transpired. I could see the pattern perpetuating, though, so I wanted to chime in. In summary, one could obtain the sets lower than prof1515's asking prices but prof1515 is guaranteeing crisp MISB condition.

@rocao - for what it is worth, I'm glad that this forum has an active admin group that keeps the boards civil and polite, it makes it a nice place to come. Thank you for the hard works that goes into running something like this, I'm sure much happens behind the scenes that we don't see, but is required to make it work. :)

how much would you be looking to ask for 6209 and would you ship to the UK?
  • prof1515prof1515 Member Posts: 1,550
Yes, I'll ship to the UK though obviously the cost of shipping would be higher. I will need to visit the post office to inquire on the shipping cost.

As I'm starting preparations for a couple weeks' travel, I'm going to have to withhold selling anything more until after I return (ie, after Dec 26). Feel free to continue to message with inquiries, offers and requests but keep in mind that I leaving this weekend and won't be home to photograph boxes or package or ship anything so it'll have to wait until I'm back. When I return I'll do a bit more sorting through boxes for non-MISB sets (ie, sets from Lego which did not arrive without blemish).

Finally back from travel and will begin emptying sets from storage again and sorting through them. The Cafe Corner I did uncover isn't the mint one though keep in mind I classify mint as a collector (99% of the time when you see "MISB" it is not really mint) but this one's in good shape and is probably better than most "MISB" sets you'll see for sale. I may have moved the mint Cafe Corner to another room since I didn't find it. In any case, I might just hang on to the mint one and sell the near-mint instead since it doesn't seem that most people here are that concerned with box quality.
  • kwilderkwilder Member Posts: 9
I would potentially be interested in cafe corner as well, depending on the cost. I am not particular about the box, just require a complete set.
  • hleonffuhleonffu Member Posts: 247
Can you post what you want for the Cafe Corner?
  • prof1515prof1515 Member Posts: 1,550
Hang on folks, I have to sort back through a couple dozen storage boxes and it's slow going given that I'm starting to get sick. Hope to have it all sorted out by New Year's provided this is just a cold and not the flu or something nasty like that.
  • LegoFanTexasLegoFanTexas Member Posts: 8,404
How much does everyone here want to pay for a Cafe Corner? Not trying to rain on prof1515's show here, but it seems there are multiple buyers and he only wants to sell one.

I've got 2 CC for sale, neither is what a collector would call mint, but both are sealed and in perhaps 8 out of 10 condition. Happy to do a better price than eBay, since it saves me the fees, happy to take PayPal, only ship via FedEx insured. Anyone interested, PM a reasonable fair offer...

I can do pictures in the morning, they are in the bedroom closet so I can't really get to them right now while the wife is sleeping. ;)

Ok, I sorted through more boxes and found some copies of the sets listed which are, unlike those above, NOT MINT. They range from moderate shelf-worn to near-mint in quality but each has been examined carefully and has its little marks, creases or nicks noted in detail which prevents me from claiming in all honesty that they are mint. I still have boxes of City sets to through but I'm still a bit under the weather so moving boxes around isn't my idea of a swell time; I'll get to them soon. Below is a summary of the non-mint sets:

    ****INDIANA JONES SETS****

    7195 - Ambush in Cairo
Crease on upper left corner of front
Crease on right side of front

    7196 - Chauchilla Cemetary
Visible crease on upper right front corner
Crease on center left side of back

    7197 - Venice Canal Chase
Slight handling scratches (visible when you hold it at a certain angle of light) on front
Wear on lower right corner of front
Small wear on left corners of back
Small crease on upper right side of back

    7198 - Fighter Plane Attack
Large crease on right side of front; secondary crease midway along right side of front
Crease on right side of back
Nick on lower right corner of front
Nick on upper right corner of back
Couple small scratches on lower left front

    ****STAR WARS SETS****

    6205 - V-wing Fighter
Visible crease on top front side
Nick on bottom edge of back side

    6209 - Slave-1
Several slight creases on front side
Nick on bottom left corner of front side
Slight crease on bottom side panel

    6212 - X-wing Fighter
Visible crease on upper front side
Slight crease along right side of front
    Nick on left side panel
Visible crease on top side panel
Slight nick on top edge of back side

    6212 - X-wing Fighter
    Slight warping of front cover
Slight nick lower left corner of front side
    Slight crease on back side

    7104 - Desert Skiff
    Moderate shelf wear
Slight fading (or was the printing of the starfield just lighter than I remember?)
    Slight nicks on every corner
    Slight crease on top front
Visible crease on top side panel

    7110 - Landspeeder
Moderate to significant shelf wear on entire box
Slight fading (or was the color of the starfield just lighter than I remember?)
Slight to moderate nicks on every corner
    Visible crease on back side
Visible crease on right side panel

    7654 - Droids Battle Pack
Slight crease on top edge of front side

    7662 - Trade Federation MTT
    Warping on left front side
Slight nick on upper left corner of front side
Slight nick on lower left corner of front side
Slight nick on upper right corner of front side
Nick on lower left corner of back side
Nick on lower right corner of back side

    7663 - Sith Infiltrator
Near-mint (I noticed a slight scratch on the back when holding it up at an angle to the light and there is a small nick on the upper right corner of the back)

    7666 - Hoth Rebel Base
Slight crease on bottom back side
Slight crease on top front side
    Slight warping of front cover

    7666 - Hoth Rebel Base
Slight nick on upper right corner of front side
Slight crease on top front side
Slight mark on top back side

    7752 - Count Dooku's Solar Sailer
Two slight creases on upper left of front side
Slight ding on upper edge of front side
Slight crease on upper right corner of front side
Visible crease on lower right corner of back side
Visible crease on upper left corner of back side

Photos are naturally available upon request.

Note that I also have some of the MISB sets listed in my first post still available. Those are without any nicks, scratches, or creases whatsoever.

Was also searching for a particular polybag for someone and as they're sitting here on the table, I'll toss them out as well (saves me finding the box I store them in again).
