Nice sounding titles for the cheaper sets. Hopefully there'll be plenty of opportunity to fill out my PotC ships with crew, cannons, and maybe an islander. Just a shame there's no Tortuga type tavern.

If these are indeed the true prices and LEGO continues to keep prices high for those sets of real value then I have some fear that this whole line will be somewhat juniorized and/or simple builds. Ah well, I'll still be buying multiples!

It could be the summer wave adds a couple larger sets to the mix. That is the trend be it Galaxy Squad, Chima, and even Star Wars. Then again with a ship at the high end, what else would they put out to eclipse that?
  • JenniJenni USAMember Posts: 1,372
    ^ a bigger ship!

Perhaps a flagship land based set?

I doubt those prices are right compared to what the titles are. I guess they could be, but I would not expect much detail.

I am really looking forward to these Pirates sets, although the names do not fill me with confidence as they sound like a precise retread of the 2009 theme.

How about a large port type set like #6277 Imperial Trading Post?

Tell me about a theme-relaunch where the sets did not seem like a repetition?

Seriously - 75% of all LEGO sets gives me a deja vue feeling!

Maybe the new Soldier's Outpost is comprehensive to #6265 Sabre Island? Something like that would be nice. I have a couple, looking great around #6276 Eldorado Fortress.

I think those are a bit off. Based on prices of existing sets between NZ and US, they should be more like this:

    Shipwreck Defense: $9.99
    Soldier's Outpost: $19.99, possibly $24.99
    Treasure Island: $19.99, possibly $24.99
    Soldiers' Fort: $29.99, possibly $34.99 or $39.99
    The Brick Bounty: $99.99

Huh? The prices are almost certainly already set. I'm just speculating on what they're most likely to be (in the US).

I don't think you'll be seeing that for awhile. IMHO, Lego probably sells a ton more pirate ships in the $90-$100 range. IF now would retail for $200+ and that's a tough sell for parents or grandparents.

@icey117‌ - Very true, which is a real shame. I suppose if LEGO have tried one range of sets and found it to be successful, why change it too much when you release a similar theme down the line?

Wish we'd see a mix of Fantasy Era Castle with Pirates. That would be awesome. And I think they could have included Metal Beard, isn't this his world?
  • piratemania7piratemania7 New EnglandMember Posts: 2,027
I think returning to "classic" Pirates is about high time. I know this is something I have greatly been looking forward to ever since the end of the latest round of Pirate sets were available. Albeit, I thought they were somewhat "juniorized" they were still a lovely hold me over for new Pirate sets.

Still skeptical at the pricing, I think the naming though is on par with other Pirate sets from years past so it could very well be that the pricing is accurate. I just cannot wait for some official release from LEGO to come out so I can start my dedicated savings account.

I still think those prices are awfully low. At least i would not expect a lot of detail if those are price points used.

    Sorry, here's my real post.

I think this pirate theme is gonna follow the structure of the last castle sets.

Shipwreck Defense is going to be similar to #70400 Forest Ambush. Probably a little Crows nest and a treasure chest with 2 of each faction figures

Soldiers' Outpost: hopefully its going to be something like Sabre Island like @peter1975 said. Either that, or just a wall with a gate or prison cell, like they always give us in castle sets, or an updated #6259 Broadside's Brig

The rest I'm not to sure, but however they turn out I'll definitely be buying them all.

Took me a little while to realize that the prices are initially in NZD! I'm so used to seeing the first price list for a forthcoming wave being in USD or Euros that I assumed the prices were in Euros.

Not bad. Hopefully there will be a large-ish retailer exclusive set as well.

Lego has said directly that they repeat a lot of sets every few years. I'm actually glad that they do, as a parent I can happily afford to purchase a classic set like Castle or Pirates for my kids without having to shell out hundreds on ebay or bricklink. (Oh wait I already do shell out hundreds.)

I did prefer Castle Kingdoms over the latest Castle, I hope we see some Forestmen sets again in the future!

I'll bring this link up again now because it needs to be brought up. It sounds as if Lego went here (http://guide.lugnet.com/fun/namegen/), unticked all the boxes except for "Pirates" and wrote down the first 5 titles.

That said, if you try and put too much variety and innovation into Pirates, you get further away from Classic Pirates, which is what's selling this to a decent part of the audience.

There was a name the ship contest earlier this year with a teaser partial picture. Yes, it will have red & white sails and be a similar size to Brickbeard's Bounty. Triangular front sail and two masts...

  • piratemania7piratemania7 New EnglandMember Posts: 2,027
I think part of the problem is that TLG doesnt like to branch out too far with variety - there are some certain standards that any theme maintains. For Pirate it always seems to be a Pirate ship, some sort of island/base/hideout and then the Soldier faction - a fort/base/harbor and then of course the smaller supporting cast of sets.

For me, what made truly Classic Pirates so appealing was all the "newness" these sets provided and how surprised we were to have say the Carribean Clipper or Eldorado Fortress. We need more surprises and "newness" today.
  • BrickarmorBrickarmor USAMember Posts: 1,257
^A pirates' hideout like some hut carved out of sand and rock would be awesome. I'm thinking something in the vein of Bag End but with musket holes, sentry posts, etc. There are so many more parts, colors, and techniques that Lego could really make something unique like that. But... if the next line is a retread of the previous I won't be replacing anything in my current 1990s-era Pirates setup.
  • Peter1975Peter1975 DeventerMember Posts: 164

Is that a real Lego set?

The prelim pic's of the Boxes are now out there (Water marked confidential so I wont post the link). I am liking what I see, very much classic Pirates, they could have come straight out of the 90's. I'm sure there will be plenty of love, as well as hate for these sets.
  • dougtsdougts Oregon, USAMember Posts: 4,112
All of the sets outside the ship are in low price points, and it shows in the pictures. Seems like a lost opportunity to bump the fort up to $50 or $60 and give us something semi substantial

There are some good points in the lineup, but overall it's disappointing

Yeah I fully expect a lot to not like these sets as there is not much new to them really, very similar to previous releases and no big sets that appeal to the larger AFOL crowd.

I like them as I missed the original pirates, as when they were released I just became a teenager and Lego took a back seat to other "pursuits".

I noticed in a couple of the pictures there appears to be a new colour for the 1 x 2 with Masonry Profile (Brick Profile) #98283 looks to be Reddish Brown?
  • dougtsdougts Oregon, USAMember Posts: 4,112

Wow, so it appears they are 'phoning it in' with the new pirate sets. Including using existing sails ( I think from a old Junior pirate set from the past) on the 'new' pirate ship. I guess that could be pre release photos using existing stock to replace to be created parts, and that may change.

Neat seeing the creator toy shop set due out as well as some of the city sets, but it looks like LEGO is 'junior-izing' their sets again, at least that have that kind of look.

They are all preliminary pics, on the Ninjago sets there is basically no faces and in one the minifigure holding a sword doesn't look ninjary at all, more city like.

So good chance that some of these sets will look different once released.

Eeeeeek the soldiers outpost and fort look dreadful. Poor builds

I liked the small shipwreck though

(Also those elves sets, nice idea but urgh! They look horrendous)
