I found a list of LEGO City Police 2015 sets, looking from the blog Mesonak posted the Bionicle names from on Eurobricks:

    I wonder if this wave might focus specifically on a coastal area, the way 2012 focused on the forest. There are definitely a lot of sets here that could fit with that sort of theme.

    'Crook Shelter' sounds like a winner. I have been tempted by a few of the current line with small shacks and things in them for the bad guys. If this actually focuses on that aspect more than the accompanying vehicles that might be a really great set.

    tow truck again? We had a tow truck in 2013 and another tow truck in 2014. How many different tow trucks does a city need?

    Apparently lego people don't drive to well, that is why they need more tow trucks.

    I'd probably be driven to a life of crime and arson if I lived in a dry city. I can empathize with them.

    Let's be fair there aren't many jobs open to residents of Lego City...construction, police, fire fighter, vehicle recovery and a couple of shops. Turning to crime is all to inevitable in this city! Plus there are no guns so you know, you steal a car and you know you won't get shot at by the owner or the police.

    If any of you have ever played Lego city undercover you'll understand the need for tow trucks and fire crews. I can't make it a mile down the road without taking out the cars of half the commuters in the city.

    I guess they sell well. So it makes sense for TLG to replace any popular discontinued sets for those people that may want to buy a set in 2015, without having to travel back in time.

    Without meaning to stir up the old research institute debate again, why does TLG's token female always look like she's wearing horse riding jodhpurs and a horse riding jacket? It's like the set designers thought process is that girls should have just come from riding their ponies or something.

    I also like that in this particular case that she appears to have broken down. Nothing beats gender stereotypes like making the woman the damsel in distress right?

    This is why I can't take Lego's attempts at sorting the gender imbalance seriously - even when they do introduce more female minifigures the results seem to involve smothering them in gender stereotyped cliches anyway like the long haired lipstick clad pony riding broken down damsel in distress pictured above.

    In that set, I assumed she was a professional on her way to work (she has a suit on and a briefcase) and her sports car has broken down. And then the (male) manual worker (in his overalls) comes to help out.

    Is it sexist if the woman is the rich sports car driver and the man is the repair man? Would it really be any better the other way around, and would it sell? Of course, they could have both had gender neutral torsos and it could be up to the child who rescues who, but that is another argument too.

    Truck Breakdown sounds like it might contain yet another wrecker.

    By "Fire Starter" the first thing I think of is arsonists, but it likely will be a small station, a fire engine, and some firefighters.

    The reason I can't help but feel that female (and the scientist with the same torso in research institute) look like they're in horse riding gear is because of the non-matching trousers. Were those trousers grey they'd look like they were in a suit and it'd work, but the different coloured trousers (especially in that set!) make it look more like jodhpurs.

    Maybe she's a horse vet. That'd explain the nice car given how much vets earn :)

    I have just moved to ignoring the January City release. The January release is their yearly fire/police release. It really is their rescue subtheme. I just wish they would simply label it that way. I think it would really manage expectations.
    Out of the fire/rescue, the hovercraft is the one semi-interesting name of the bunch, and the one my son found interesting, but I suspect it will not be of interest once we see it. I will wait to see what the next City summer theme will be. Those really are the only City sets that have potential interest with our family.


    (Yes, Xefan, Lego often does damsel in distress. The one you mention I'm actually okay with since I consider it more a real world scenario. Car breaks down. Call a tow truck. Technically she has to be rescued, but she used her own ingenuity to resolve the issue by contacting someone, as opposed to "Woah as me-ing" on the side of the road waiting for her hero to save the day.

    I personally tend to have more issues with the fantasy versions. First episode of Ninjago, Nya is captured and must be rescued. Second episode of Chima. Eris had to be rescued. The second I found a particularly frustrating damsel in distress situation, because Eris had wings and could have flown away at any time, instead of sitting there saying "Ohhhhhh. Ohhhhhh." Her response was also completely out of her character. It was a huge, huge turn-off for me with Chima. )

    How do you know that she used her ingenuity to call for help? She doesn't actually have a phone (and there is a phone tile that she could have had) so it is perfectly possible that she was rescued by a passing tow truck driver. There are so many of them, maybe they are out touting for business to make ends meet.

    Isn't that the point of role play, that the person playing with the set gets to choose what happens. In one person's play she may have broken down and called for help. In another, she filled up with petrol instead of diesel. In someone else's she may have crashed into a tree as she was too busy doing her make-up in the rear view mirror.

    I am assuming similar. It is a starter kit before one gets the big firehouse, but yes, the name is cringe worthy! LOL!

    I couldn't agree more. At least there has been consistancy around this from the city dept at TLG so we now know what to expect in Jan but this line up seems somewhat lazy all the same especially with the demolition stuff sounding like mining from just a couple of years back (granted though we only have names at the moment).

    Just like in the real world someone's brother from Lego city hall must have the police uniform contact as I see yet another police uniform scheme.

    Where are all the professional office workers going? There are always people waiting at the various stations with briefcases in hand. There are office blocks in Lego City Undercover (just like the tower blocks in TLM), but they would need 5-10k of bricks to do them justice as sets. Small light industry and the odd shop is the best we will get in terms of the wider Lego economy.

    I remember reading a book as a kid about a lady that always wore a neckerchief. As she lay dying from old age she asked her husband to remove the neckerchief, and her head fell off (strange story for a kids book, so you can see why it stuck with me).

    Seeing as a lego fig's head is removable, perhaps she's afraid of suffering a similar fate.

    ^I heard a similar Halloween story when I was a kid where a guy wondered why his new wife always wore this ribbon around her neck and she would just say, "Please don't take off my ribbon." While she was asleep one night, he takes off the ribbon and her head falls off and then says, "I told you not to take it off." I was like four or five at the time, and had nightmares for days after...

    There are mostly huge sections of LEGO I don't bother to even look at in the LEGO aisles of stores. City, Star Wars, Monster anything, Galaxy anything, Disney anything, Chima, ...., but someone must be buying those lines making it possible for LEGO to make the stuff I love...modulars, Architecture, Creator, etc. (And it does save me a lot of time when cruising through Target for groceries once a week or so.)

    And I do adore the Ninjago temples, etc.! They are very cool buildings.

    But yeah, another fire or police station definitely leaves me cold. We do have to remember that LEGO has to sell enough of something to fund the other products.

    Good to see Lego catching up and releasing a set based on all the Police hovercraft you see buzzing around London.

    And let's hope 'Fire starter,' marks the controversial start of Lego's new 'Litttle Arsonist,' theme, complete with new highly flammable bricks...

    Has anyone seen the price of the arctic ice breaker? $130 is what LEGO wants for it. Absolutely crazy. That set should be $80-90. Who are they kidding. I'm kinda P/O'ed because I wanted it. Not anymore unless it drops 50% on a sale.

    LEGO seems to be doing this all over the place - Raising Prices. I remember growing up in the early 90's and being able to at least buy something small for 3/4/5 dollars, now? most themes start at $10.99! Oy.

    ^^wow that is quite a stretch at $130. It is barely 100 bricks more than Cragger's Command Ship #70006 which debuted last year for $80. I picked that one for comparison since it has the same giant boat hull part. So it feels like $50 for ~120 parts more.

    #60062 is listed as £79.99 in the UK so 130$ can't be right

    Last year's Coast Guard Patrol #60014, which has 449 pieces for an RRP of $80, was similarly priced (per piece):

    #60014: 17.82c
    #60062: 18.13c

    That's an increase of less than 2%.

    Regardless, price per piece is a bad way to compare sets with parts like this. 1000 cheese slopes weigh less than the boat hull.

    Part of that is just inflation — $5 in 1993 would be over $8 today. But additionally, some of the smallest sets back in the early 90s were really small. #6514 offered 36 pieces for just $3.25 back in 1994. Adjust for inflation, and that would be $5.11 in 2013. Whereas #30225, a 37-piece set released in 2013, cost just $3.99. By that reckoning, sets today are cheaper per piece than they were back then... at least in USD.

    The idea that LEGO is more expensive today is true, if you assume the value of money is constant. But any economist can tell you that this is not the case. Nineteen years can make a HUGE difference.

    ^^^coast guard patrol was way over priced too. That's why I picked it up when it was on sale in the $60ish range.
