Rumor has it if you play the Lord of the Rings movies backwards, Gollum's "My Precioussssss" sounds like "Twenty Seven percentttttt" . . . according to the Peter Jackson Director's cut, it was a direct reference to the dangerous temptation of LEGO exclusive discounts. Not coincidentally, LEGO has decided to punish Jackson by implementing a no-discount policy the moment the first LOTR exclusive was released and then ceasing production on future waves.

Despite the fact that the Deathstar circling the forest moon of Endor was fully operational it was in fact only 27% complete.

I love these 27% references, but legend has it, if you stand in front of a mirror and whisper "27%" three times, a random LEGO Exclusive will appear at your feet*.

    *Doesn't work, I tried it ;-P

Did you repeat that 3 times? :))

Well that because you have to say 27% times. Obviously.

What do you guys expect of #75021 Gunship? And the new #75054 AT-AT? Both their previous versions did very well.

Everyone keeps talking about sales tax. If you're buying for resale you shouldn't be paying sales tax anyway. If you buy for resale then by law you have to collect sales tax at the time of sale anyway. Yes, I am aware many people don't do this and most won't ever get caught. But why not do it the right way and save all that money?

Doesn't that mean you also have to pay an inventory tax on your items?
Depends on the state you live in and how much you have.

Do you get tax receipts so you can claim it back? Lego don't do VAT receipts in UK/Europe, what with them selling only to consumers and not businesses.
Yes, at the bottom of all our sales receipts the sales tax is listed. Every three months I claim it back against tax owed so while LEGO is not helpful, I still don't pay tax on LEGO Retail Store purchases. There is a spot on the Texas Sales Tax form to input sales tax paid on items bought for resale.
  • xeeeejxeeeej Member Posts: 71
So do you then collect sales tax from your purchasers to subsequently remit?
  • dougtsdougts Member Posts: 4,110
Only if they live in Texas I presume

27% more donuts or a 27% LEGO discount? Dooooonutsssss (in Homer Simpson voice)
  • cheshirecatcheshirecat Member Posts: 5,331
Should I bother to work out if they've considered the square donut to also have a square profile?
  • hoyatableshoyatables Member Posts: 873
But how does one dunk a square donut into a round mug?

^Actually, it is a bit embarrassing when the Lego CEO calls me "my pretty." That's usually my cue to flee from the store (with or without the 27% discount).

Wizard of Oz. The wicked witch. Let's see. Hummmmm.... Could it be? Maybe it isn't just the LOTR movie.

My goodness! I played that scene backward on my DVD player. "My pretty" sounds like "twenty seven percent"!

In all seriousness though, might as well share the secret since my big buying days are coming to an end. On the 2nd slider titled "Discount" when you're browsing sets on [email protected], you just have to set the discount to what you want and then it will adjust the sets to the new prices once in your cart.

Do keep this in mind though! It's an honor system, so pick 27% (or less) otherwise TLG might do away with the whole thing.

All of this 27% talk. You can't fool me, because...

You can fool 27% of the people all of the time; you can fool all of the people 27% of the time, but you can never fool 27% of the people 27% of the time.

The 27% is all too funny, but I need to ask some "serious" questions now.

What is everyones opinion about Harry Potter sets. I still have a few of the last wave sitting around and Diagon Alley. Have all HP sets reached their peak or are there certain sets that have room to grow? Also, is it worth holding on to some in hopes that the new movie will drum up interest?

I think it's possible that the HP sets will go up further, but honestly, not many people can complain on the wonderful return if they dump them now. If I had any more, I would have unloaded them by now. Diagon is a relatively (and I use that term very judiciously) low performer, but it's certainly not a loser. I only wish I had bought a billion more of the trains.
  • Pitfall69Pitfall69 Member Posts: 11,454
There is obviously still interest in Harry Potter itself, but I'm not sure about the Lego sets. Universal Studios is opening Diagon Alley and a multitude of Harry Potter themed rides. They even built a Hogwarts Express.

Don't forget about the new harry potter movies coming out! I have sold all of my hp, no regrets.

If there are new films, there could be new sets.

Who knows if that will raise or lower the value of current sets.
