Congrats, @KiwiLegoMeister, that's great news! Your tram is a gorgeous little design. I fully expect to see sets of this appearing on eBay within a few months...;-)

... and hopefully at a good premium! ....

A key point is that the creation had to be 80 blocks or less, and preferably closer to 50. I was asked to reduce the piece count when it was short-listed, with my final design being 64 blocks. I don't yet know what further modifications have been applied.
I look forward to getting a couple for prosperity ...

Here's a Maori Meeting House - a Wharenui. My daughter and her friend next door built it for a National Lego building competition.

It didn't win, but I reckon it's pretty impressive ...

And here's an Opera House my daughter build for the same National Lego building competition.

It grew over about 6 months, and I reckon it should have won!

I had that Lego feeling today when building a new computer, but with the potential dread of busting a really fragile £236 piece (CPU) when putting it in it's cage and applying the heatsink/fan. First one i've ever built. Long pause with baited breath after pushing the power button......thankfully everything worked. I'd rather be building Lego, much easier to fix a mistake.

    ^Next challenge - build a Lego computer! ;-)
Seriously, though congrats on the PC build. I put my first one together last year (though sadly not for me!). Must be a pretty beastly machine if you spent £236 on the CPU!
  • monkeyhangermonkeyhanger Member Posts: 3,170
It certainly is a beast (i7 4770k). The case is double width, with a window on the side and probably plenty of room to stick a short Lego set in there below the motherboard and above the hot mount HDDs -it did cross my mind to put something in there made of Lego.

This is the only forum I've ever come across where computer case sizes are measured in Lego sets. XD

Just have to make sure the window area is cool enough where the set won't melt

@KiwiLegoMeister be sure to bring a couple trams back to the forums to sell/ trade ;)

You'd have bigger problems than that if your PC was getting hot enough to melt Lego...

Haha - I'm definitely getting some for myself; I'm guessing, New Zealand is a small country; Christchurch is 3/4s of the whole country away from the main population base. They might only produce 1000 or so sets? Could prove quite rare ....
I don't know all the specifics - Lego judged the winner, and are probably discounting or sponsoring the production cost; Don't know whether they will bag them up, or whether local volunteers will. I don'[t know enough about how these things happen.

Finished the technic excavator yesterday and just dismantled diagon alley tonight. I'm severely running out of storage for pieces and I have more than 6 sets still to take apart comprising of over 11000 pieces.

    Done!

The build was slightly dull because it's aimed at younger kids; the outcome is so great. I feel like a young kid again :)

I am going to rebuild the Fire Brigade and the Haunted House again. Now that I can set them up on a table to make the start of my town street at last. I have PR coming in the mail, plus Town Hall, Palace Cinema and. Pet Shop on layby. I also want to make a memorial fountain garden in the centre of town. Should be good I reckon. I'll take pictures when it's set up.

I have just completed the first floor of the Parisian Restaurant, wow this is amazing. Two floors to go lol. I love how even the curtains are Lego. A definite must have.

Just starting to hunt some parts down for a build my daughter is about to start. I need 56 pods ... (e.g. set #4437). mmmmm (and yes, I am checking out Bricklink). Also need maybe 10 or 12 large 48x48 grey base plates. I can feel wallet pain coming on. Fortunately, that should be about all I need to buy ...

Any guesses out there on what is being built ....?

After picking up an incomplete #4728 at a charity shop this afternoon, I've been working at melding it onto a mostly complete #4719. The top 'tower' isn't quite complete yet.

    image

You can see that there is quite an overhang at the back, and I will probably try to put in a pillar or two to hold it up, though it balances fine as is. The inside furnishing is not complete - if you look on the 1st floor (second floor for Americans) you will see a couple of protruding orange/brown bricks. These will be anchors for furniture (bed or a table or something). The stone clad chimney (1st floor again - hard to see the fireplace due to the rubbish photos) is abit of an in-joke in our family, as when we moved into our current house, it had a really tacky fake stone chimney-breast.

Just built the Guardians of the Galaxy line and the Republic Gunship set 75021. I must say that I am most impressed by the Milano spaceship. It's a fantastic build, very detailed, and feels very solid. The RGS was a must have since I still own the original from 2002, and it didn't fail to impress, but the original will always be my favorite of the 3 variants.

Built the GOTG #76019 Starblaster Showdown & #76021 Milano Spaceship this weekend. The 76019 was a neat little build, not bad for the price, but the Milano Spaceship is where it's at!

Like @fenderbender336 said, very detailed and solid. If high swish-ability is something you look for, this is your set. It looks great and has 3 must-have GOTG figs, especially Drax. The torso printing is amazing. Definitely my favorite set of the year (so far).

Just finished a powered version of #10194 (Emerald Knight) that I received in a swap with member mdelleman. Also thanks to TheLoneTensor for the modification tips to make it a smooth running loco. My gearing to the drivers turned out different and I may try to LDD the mods so others can use it. Makes a world of difference!

I don't know what to build from my stash of sets... Marvel, DC, Star Wars, Monster Fighters or City. I don't have a great deal of room to display so sets get opened, built and put on the shelf for a month then broken down to make room for a new build. I have just as small an area for storage of unopened sets, just a pile of boxes on top and in the wardrobe, under and down the side of my desk. Its difficult to live with that situation and it makes it worse that my OCD makes me store sets as sets rather than part them out when putting them away.

What to do?!? Arkham Asylum Breakout is sat in tubs, bought 2nd hand for (very cheap with minifigures!) right next to my desk too.
  • graphitegraphite Member Posts: 3,275
^ Not sure how you store your broken down sets (or even new ones you know you are going to build) but flattening boxes and bagging parts is a more efficient way to store if you are space limited. Lots of wasted space in LEGO boxes.

I throw out all the boxes, I have no use for them.
Once I have built my set, I dismantle and place the pieces in plastic containers with sealed lids. These are labeled and stacked on top of each other. They don't take up much space and look great all stacked up like that.

Lol I have no where to store anything built at the moment. We have our house up for sale, and haven't found another house yet. But when I do all my modulars will be set up and stay that way.

Actually we have a 6 bedroom home at the moment, we are downsizing to a 2-3 bedroom one. But there are always Granny Flats and Garages lined and insulated. So we will always have a room for our Lego lol.

This isn't all the Lego I had when I was a child (although it's all the large stuff), it's just what my parents brought across today. There's apparently quite a bit of smaller stuff still at their house.

The post-it notes on some of them say what is missing from each set. I've added it all to a new BL wishlist in order to get it all over time...

I'm doing the PR now, and the level of the detail is mindblowing! It's one of the most intricate sets I have ever done, and I nearly passed on it because I thought it didn't look as good as some of the others. A beautiful kit!
