Hi guys/girls a complete newbie to collecting, had loads of sets as a kid as time went I wanted different things and the lego moved around the house eventually ending up in attic then going to a new home :( now after spending the weekend with my nephew playing/making lego I completely forgot how fun and exciting it was to see a set completely made and seeing my nephews face light up, now I know what looked like at his age.... Now I'm looking to get back in to collecting I've recently purchased the Star Wars mini figure sets 750032 x wing fighter and 75031 interceptor. (I'm a Star Wars nut)

Now we all have to start some where and looking on here,eBay and other stockist it's going to take a while to complete a Star Wars collection specially when there are over 500+ mini figures so hopefully joining the forum I'm hoping you guys/girls will be able to help me out when things get difficult so any help will be greatly received

Looking forward to the correspondence

Many thanks in advanced

Lynton

Welcome back to the hobby! If you're interested in the "complete collection", then yeah, you're going to spend a ton of money and time just on the Star Wars theme alone. However, if all you want is a representative model of each vehicle and/or each figure, then just be patient as LEGO tends to remake all the sets every couple of years. For example, nearly all of the 2014 Star Wars sets are remakes of previous models. While you'll still need to shell out the $$ for #10123 Cloud City and its unique figures, you wouldn't need to get all the various X-wing fighters from years past.

Whatever you decide, best of luck!

    Welcome to the dark side!

I personally have selectively start to collect only iconic sets/vehicles or whatever catches my eye, not only from SW line. Unless you have deep pockets and live in a mansion, impossible to collect every sets there is! But minifigs on the otherhand...these lil things are addictive and awesome...It's a never ending quests collecting minifigs be warned, gotta collect them all! And ebay is your best friend, or trades from trusted members in here. :)

Many thanks guys, ideally I'd like to collect sets but I know it's going to b a long and expensive trip down memory lane ;) specially after looking at the ones you've highlighted. I'm loving the mini figures also, just got in from toys r us and bought #75030 & #75033 starting off with the micro fighters. Could have spent a fortune in there!!! It's funny walking in and watching children saying I want this one and that one then down the line you have the collectors looking at everything and looking for the better sets (never saw it before I started collecting) now that will be me from now on. :) if you guys can give me any advice on sets that I should try and get 1st I'd appreciate.

Advise: use BrickLink to buy Star Wars minifigs. There are a zillion (OK, thousands) for sale! You may find this a useful starting point: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogList.asp?catType=M&catString=65

Oh yes and Bricklink too definitely! @dutchlegofan50 Thanks that's useful.

@Lynton82 The microfighters are awesome, gotta get them all! ;)

I got out of the dark ages in 2006. Got into SW line and the other lines as they came. Decided to focus only on the fleshies instead of yellow heads for SW as i figured it'd be too much to track back. Due to space constraints these days, i focus mainly on minifigs, miniships and selected iconic sets.

    My minifig collection is roughly...

SW: 70% up to date (fleshies only)
SUPERHEROES: 70% up to date (2012 Onwards)
    LOTR/HOBBIT: 90%
    INDY: 90%
    TLR: 100%
    POP: 100%
    HP: 100% (fleshies only)
    NINJAGO: 50% (ninjas only)
CMFs: 80% (sans Mr Gold, might get a good custom vers)

Bricklink (www.bricklink.com) and Brick Owl (www.brickowl.com) are the two places I use to buy loose parts, minifigures, and older sets (ebay also has some sets for decent prices).

I started collecting Lego when Star Wars sets first came out in 1999. I've since re-bought all my old Classic Space, Town, and Castle sets from my childhood, and generally buy whatever themes interest me (and I still buy the Star Wars sets). As this is most themes, my wallet is usually empty...you've been warned!

@Lynton82‌ here's an organized excel sheet for all the SW figs so far, which should help you get started on your quest. I'm north of 80% for all Fleshies.

    Welcome!

I completed my Star Wars collection a while back, but I have now been through with my big magnifier light ensuring that every fig is perfect. You'll know you're a true addict when you spend most of an evening figuring out how to replacing the batteries and releasing the head of a light up Luke Skywalker to swap his frayed cape!

@ brickdancer....... Thank that will come in very handy

Wow that impressive guys, just want to start off with the easy ones first as I've been looking in to the rare sets and well I think I need to sell the house to buy them, but that's why it's a long term commitment to collecting these amazing set/figures.

Have got all the micro fighters @KLS?

@CHERUBboy‌ have you collected the whole sets or just the mini figures?

@Oldfan‌ is buying lego loose and making sets/figures yourself to display like would if you bought the sets or is that just and un-written rule u just don't do?
  • KLSKLS Member Posts: 25
@Lynton82‌ Yup, got all 6 of them #5003835. Hurry these are quite hot, very reasonably priced and has some cool minifig variants. :)

I'm primarily a set collector, so in the process of getting all the sets of a theme I'll get all the figures. And buying the sets new assures that you get the correct parts every time; even the most well-meaning reseller will mix up a piece or two in a used set from time to time. Buying new/sealed also assures that if there's a problem with how stickers are applied, I have no one to blame but myself!

That said, there is nothing wrong with buying loose extra figures and parts as you see fit; I bought several extra stormtroopers and other figures to use with an Imperial Troop Transport MOC. I've re-created older sets by buying all the parts and instructions separately, and I count those sets as "owned". I have several thousand parts separate from my sets that I'll use to build some grand space station MOC's "someday". That's the great thing about LEGO: you can define your collection and your rules any way you see fit. As long as you're happy, you're good!

Just minifigs! I think I'd need a bigger house to start on sets...

@Oldfan‌ @CHERUBboy‌ think I'm going down the same path with buying the sets and with that u get the figures. Looks like ill b on the look out for 'loose' SW lego then ;) How do you store your figures? I was thinking of framing them? Do you open ur sets and make them or do you keep them sealed?
