I bet 'PotC Flying Dutchman' wouldn't draw many laughs from the judges.
;o)
:o[
As welcome as this news is, I can't help but feel a twinge of annoyance that we've had a big ticket Sea Cow and now this, which suggests TLG think ships are a good move, yet we never saw anything better than virtually cannonless canoes-with-sails for the PotC license, and nothing at all for Davy Jones or the Navy/Trading co.
I do like that we're getting a new ship, but AAAAAGH! How frustrating they never saw fit to test the water (forgive the pun) with a big-ticket multi-layered Dutchman.
The incentive for me to buy another Lego ship (I have six different Lego sail ships) in the future will be based on whether or not TLC will come up with an innovative design which is different enough (actual design of model as well as colour scheme), and secondary an interesting bunch of new and different varied looking minifigs too.
By the looks of it, it will be another 17th century sail ship. Yet what I really would love to see is a galley; a huge minifig-scale boat, with multiple decks, Mediterranean warship with both sails and oars from classic Roman/Hellenistic antiquity. If TLC can churn out Death Stars, Star Destroyers, Sea Cows, London Bridges, why not a gigantic Galley with at least 20 minifig roman soldiers to man the oars, a captain, a guy to pound the drums, and two other minifigs for rigging the sails and steering the ship, and of course a princess and handmaiden so these minifigs have a reason to start a Trojan war or something like that.
This is great news for Pirates fans! I wonder if we will get a full product range or just a one off set? Pirate fans don't need to wait till 2015 for something to buy. In October Series 12 will probably feature a few all new Pirate minifigs. I don't think it is a coincidence one of the major game worlds is Pirate World. From the gameplay footage so far it looks like vintage LEGOLAND Pirates. There is even a Kraken.
Well it would go down well but you know what I mean.
The Jammy Dodger, especially if its Jack Sparrows boat, :D.
right when I was getting tired of LEGO...
I hope at the very least that they changed the colour theme depending on the name they choose, if they've already got those red colours as a definite then it would be stupid for them to choose a name like "The Black Brick" or any with an animal name that doesn't suit the colours.
I haven't had a pirates theme on general retail since coming out of my dark ages,so very interested in seeing what's to come. I am starting to focus my collecting and I think that pirates stuff will only interest me if I look at the it for value in Mythology displays, so as many have suggested if they did something either greek or fitting with POTC ships I might be interested. I do have the LOTR pirate ship and I enjoyed building that, but I don't think I'll jump at a generic looking pirate ship (if anything I'd more likely get the sea cow than just a generic looking ship - I know that a lot of people would prefer something that looks more like a classic ship and if this works out for them then fair enough, just wouldn't be for me)
Personally I'd have gone blue with a barracuda but i don't actually have a clue what they look like. If it was called the Black Barracuda then yes.
I know its not a hard and fast but surely the name should reflect the ship at least a little.
I'm sure that the designers could take into account colour changes to suit the name while putting concepts together, so as i say i hope this is the case.
Aaargh! Bosun, couldn't you find a pair o'sails to match me' ships' name?!
Aaargh! sorry Cap'n, was all I could scavenge.
Aaargh! Bosun... but PINK Bloomers for a flag, who's going ta' be scared o' that?
AArgh! men afraid o' commitment? ...it's those attracted by 'em i'd be worried about! Yaargh!
Yaargh!
But I'd imagine it's probably going to be quite a generic pirate ship, so virtually any name will work. Maybe that should be part of the name's charm :o) The 'I-See-No Ship', or The 'Sight Unseen'. lol. I think I might enter... :oP
The Yellow Box or The Yellow Box of __________ (fill in the blank with Death, Pirates, etc) or The Yellow Scourge .....
(careful how you pronounce that one... lol)
:oP
And even at less than a metre long, they have lots of teeth, and will stare you down!
It's a BOY!
Thank you. I shall name him... aahh *looks around* ...Angry Wild Bear.
Wait, it's twins! HEY! *shouting* I said it's Twins.
*from distance* Great! That one can be called... Man Who Didn't Run!
Apparently this 'say what you see' naming convention was the origin of the gameshow 'Catchphrase'. ;o)
Id love an updated Imperial Trading Post type update with a merchant subtheme...(I can wish right?)
I was always a big fan of the Pirates theme, but unfortunately I am selling my entire collection to someone who like Classic Pirates way more than I do. I almost caved in a kept my POTC ships, but I had to let them go.
I don't know if I would buy an El Dorado remake. If I did, it would have to be impressive. I felt Pirates II was a bit "juniorized".
Sure it doesn't match the trading post, or skulls eye schooner, but only because they didn't release a set at that kind of scale. Looking at the way they built the fort they really could have done and it would have been excellent. I loved building the Eldorado Fortress, it harked back to my youth, but truthfully, looking at it objectively and forgetting its history. It wasn't that great. (The trading post really was that great).
That said, i still have an amazing, perhaps never even built, parts still pristine, inner tray complete (but opened), box in great condition, as good a 'used' set as you'll ever see #6285 to sell if anyones interested!
The Imperial Flagship may be associated with this latest wave but it was always in the Exclusives category for me. Personally I found this latest wave to be a great army building feeding frenzy for me to be able to one day layout a great island/port diorama.
Of course, as a result, I'd also like to see a Michael Bolton POTC minifig too, and that's all I'll say for now.
