I don't remember the turtles wearing costumes in the cartoon though.
Oh, and I love that they're making their submarine!

I'll reserve final judgement for better high-res close-ups, but initial reaction to what i could make out was those turtle figs are some ugly looking dudes. I'll be sticking with the light-hearted cartoony ones... unless I get a sudden urge for a realistic turtle-like man-creature to appear in a superheroes moc, or star wars bar.

It's refreshing to see an actual playset without so much emphasis on vehicles. Unfortunately, the design of the Turtles just looks bad; but that's not LEGO's fault.
On the one hand it caters to all turtle-based interests, movie sets for movie fans, cartoon/traditional fans may prefer the cartoony versions, and so both groups are served. But ultimately i can't escape the feeling that sales of the cartoon versions may just have already eaten into the potential the film versions may have had, and possibly a little vice versa (if some kids abandon the cartoon version for the movie), as i'd imagine the average fan is going to pick their preferred style and stick with it, which would mean a split fanbase and poorer returns for both.
They'll probably do just fine, but if they tank, I can imagine this very situation might be the prime suspect as to why.
But also I think these look as mix able as the Star Wars clone wars sets are with the regular, I don't think kids will mind but anyone who wants pieces for display are more likely to pick one or the other.
So far the movie sets look superior in every way compared to the cartoon ones which look abysmal to me.
Plus, the Clone Wars were in the same canon for the most part with the rest of the entire Star Wars universe. As for the Turtles, the characters may be mostly the same, but it's really an alternate universe between the cartoon and the movie.
