Is it good for the entire order or only 1 item?

    One item
  • addemlitaddemlit Member Posts: 118
Probably can't use it with hot deal items can you

The Mobile Crane #42009 is in-store for $200, with coupon is $160. That's a good deal, and I might just go grab another.

    ^I almost did that.

Not showing as in stock anywhere around me otherwise I would definitely do that. Bummer.
  • margotmargot Member Posts: 2,308
Call your store. The stock finder is pretty unreliable. Crane is in St. Matthews but not show as such.
  • tomahawkertomahawker Member Posts: 204
@TheLoneTensor‌ Website says its a hot price item and ineligible for further discount. How did you get this to work?
  • margotmargot Member Posts: 2,308
They don't seem to have the hot price restriction in store.
  • BrickarmorBrickarmor Member Posts: 1,258
I received the booklet, but the coupons I got were for a $10 GC on $40 purchase, and $10 off $75+. Was the 20% coupon buried in there somewhere? If so, I'll have to go unbury it from our recycling bin.
  • lordzaraklordzarak Member Posts: 329
It was a sticker on the front cover.

Can confirm I was just able to get the #42009 for $159.99 with the 20% off coupon in the Grand Rapids, MI TRU.

The website had reported no stock on the set, but there was one on the shelf.

What others have said, they don't seem to do the hot price restriction at least on this item in-store. I also picked one up. 28% off msrp = win in my book.

I also wonder if it shouldn't be a hot price at all, because this isn't on the exclusive list iirc.

Found a #42009 in my store. Had to hunt for the coupon though. Found one back in electronics at the counter.

I asked yesterday and they told me they didn't have anymore. The ad booklets they had were all missing the coupon from the front.

    Disappointed, but not surprised.
  • GoldfreekGoldfreek Member Posts: 96
I did not have the coupon either but the cashier was able to enter the code posted above and it worked. So you don't need the actual coupon.

Wouldn't it be nice to have one coupon for a retailer that actually was a % off without a massive exclusion list alongside it? Does such a thing even exist enymore?
  • adol7adol7 Member Posts: 150
Does the 20% stack in-store in any way with the BOGO50%?
Online, applying the 20% puts the 50% off item (BOGO) back to full price. :(

Check out the coupon and note the lower bold print. You may get a cashier/manager to do it anyway, but they shouldn't.

Also, check your actual mailbox. I received an ad today in the mail that has the 20% off coupon printed on it.

Yeah, I've just learned in the past how differently the stores (vs online) treat deals and rewards (like only 1 Rewards code per item online), so I was curious of in-store experience. I never bother with manager overrides as I'm not trying to cheat any rules or system.
  • madforLEGOmadforLEGO Member Posts: 10,791
I'm hard pressed to go into a TRU anymore. Unless there is a good sale (prices off of RRP and not TRUs 'RRP'), if there is a polybag I want (hoping that TC-4 makes an appearance) OR I have to burn through 5 dollar reward coupons. But if it is one of their '20 dollar off coupons if you meet our laundry list of requirements, you cannot use your rewards coupons with it, and if the item is not excluded from the coupon' then I normally pass. Especially since I know TRUs around me are subject to the bait and switch by thieves for 'sought after' sets. I grow weary of buying a set in a store and wondering if it really has all of the parts in it when buying it.
The #42009 is a bit bit intriguing if Amazon was not able to sell them and possibly put the set at 25% off.

Does anyone have any advice on rewards dollars? I have my first 4($5 each for two expiring the 15th of March and $5 each for two expiring 16th-31st of March). Would I be able to use both on the same item if I was in store? Any other gotchas in store or online for example, should they work with the current 20% off a single item? My store is an hour away...

Are these transferrable? Could I email them to a friend? Thanks,
  • lordzaraklordzarak Member Posts: 329
You can use all of your rewards in one purchase.

If you email your friend the coupon code, I do not see why he cannot use that code for an online order. I do not think their system associates a rewards coupon code with any user.

Expiration dates are one of the reasons I got fed up with TRU rewards and I cancelled my TRU Visa. It used to be they sent you $10 gift cards that had no coupon limitations or expiration dates.

Clarification: In-store you can use reward coupons all at once. Online you can only use one per order.

Thanks, should I be able to order the penguin face off for $13.99 TRU full retail price less 20% using above coupon and then apply one rewards $5 online? With free in store pickup that would be somewhat worthwhile.

I assume that would not work with the 19.99 man bat set since it is "marked down" from 27.99 so the 20% off would not work. Thanks again,

^ The 20% code does not work on web for superhero sets and you have to do it in store. That is the catch 22 as store has the inflated price. :(

Oh, thanks for price match suggestion. Any problems with combining with rewards certificate or is it one or the other?
  • PoochyPoochy Member Posts: 479
^ Not for the one time I tried at my TRU a month ago. I let them PM'ed and approved by manager first, then I hand them the cert afterward. Thanks.

The reward certificate is more or less like cash, can be stacked without issue. I just did it for $11 man bat set.

^ Both web and B&M. I wonder how many of those saddled in the TRU's warehouses. I can not count how many of fire sale this kind for this set (TRU standard of course) and they still have a bundle. ;)

Also, many times you cannot use the 20% coupons with the rewards points. Pretty sure you cannot online and as for stores YMMV
Price matching often does not work with their coupons, or sales, again YMMV on that.
    Again TRU loves their games....

Is it BOGO50 on RRP? Or is it BOGO50 on TRU's 'RRP'?

WOW TRU must be snoozing on their prices. Town Square is at RRP for the BOGO50

I think most people here know that by now. If you're really interested in knowing whether it's normal rrp or inflated then go to www.toysrus.com and look.... The 20 questions every time info is posted gets old, especially when they are easily researched by the individual.

I asked that 'tongue in cheek' and was not being serious.
But most of the time it is no longer worth mentioning that there are BOGO50s without also noting that you may find good deals but probably will not, as anyone new may actually think that a BOGO50 means a lot at TRU.

Now, having said that, again the TS is actually at retail right now which is a bit surprising as most of the other sets are hiked over RRP.

While they are likely no longer found at TRUs anywhere, would not mind finding two #3677 at a store for BOGO as it is showing as 99 bucks right now..lol.

  • margotmargot Member Posts: 2,308
    No prob, I won't mention a BOGO50 anymore.

I got kinda excited about that 20% coupon until I saw the starting date on mine (3/14). I know I could just ask the cashier to punch in the current coupon code for 20% off now, but it's kind of a pain. I'm an introvert and I just don't like seeing people giving me grimaces.

Anyway, I found one #42009 (Mobile Crane) at my local TRU. I was on the fence not only because I really didn't want to get rejected about keying in the coupon, but I'm a bit jaded because ~28% off just seems too low nowadays. With Amazon now selling Technics, 20% off is probably going to be the typical discount for technics now. Then I guess I rationalized it and added the R rewards, which bumps it up to about 30% off.

"Weeelllll! I guess that's OK then!" I said to myself and brought the box up to the service desk.

The lady DID give me a face when I ask to key in the code. I guess that's just the preview of what my wife will do when she sees yet another giant Lego box hogging up space in the closet...

I did not say that, I just suggested to add that it is BOGO50 but at TRUs hiked prices, so you may be able to find a decent deal if you hunt for it.

Do not get me wrong, I appreciate the heads up, as many others likely do as again you can occasionally find a good deal during TRUs BOGO50s but I would say the good deal is the exception and not the rule.
So thank you for mentioning it as is turns out the TS was at RRP and was part of the BOGO50 so they are about 95 each if you get two (instead of 119.99 each)

What's the "Brickset effect" some ask... Well first @Shpadoinkle‌ (unless I misremember) mentions a fire sale of $200 TRU gift cards for $170, then @margot kindly posts a scannable coupon, I use the diligence I've honed here (through constant spending) to punctually stack Rewards bucks and leave the store with a #42009 for $26.79 out of pocket. AND got the $10 GC back for $40+ purchases. May be one for the Brag Thread.

28% is not low for any set of that caliber. Don't let yourself get lulled into thinking that there will always be a sale like we've seen in the past anywhere, even Amazon.

So what was the actual % you got off? You may have paid $26.49 out of your physical pocket that day, but it certainly wasn't $26.79 "out of pocket" in the whole picture sense.
