Gifting Note on some sets sold by walmart.com

I was just looking around Walmart's website and noticed that some sets have a "Gifting Notice" listed beneath the set stating, "This item ships in the manufacturer's original packaging. If intended as a gift, the packaging may reveal the contents."

I'm wondering if they mean this to indicate it ships in the LEGO shipping box, or it ships in the product box with a shipping label affixed.

It sounds to me like they'd slap the label right on the LEGO box.
I see the notice on the Death Star. Scary!

Either they will ship in the LEGO DS set box, or if you buy a big enough LEGO set, or two of a set, they sometimes ship it in its original LEGO shipping Box (complete with LEGO logo on the side of it and sometimes a label saying what is in the LEGO shipping box). Usually it says by the shipping box flap 'do not cut with Knife'

They did this to me last year on three consecutive times on 10214 Town Hall, slapping multiple shipping labels directly on the box.

I think the trick is to buy at least 2, then they use a shipping box I believe. I know it sounds absurd, but that seems to be the only way around this as Amazon seems set on using cheapo plastic baggies for shipping their large boxes.

Ugh, if this keeps up it looks like all of my large set orders will just have to be through [email protected] from now on.

^ or Target. I have bought large sets from them and packaging is good. Red card is effectively VIP points.

With all the fervor regarding the packaging (or lack thereof) for the Ewok Village from Amazon, has anyone received any other large set from Amazon that came in just a bag, or was this isolated to only the EV?

@TheLoneTensor, there was mention also of the cargo train shipped that way (in EV thread) and I read somewhere #42009 being shipped in bag too.

Right, I do remember something like that, though I recently got a #42009 and it was packed nicely in a box.

I really find this absurd. I'm not a collector. I mainly buy for birthday and holidays. For me it is absolutely ludicrous that a toy would be shipped without any sort of concealment, especially if we are talking about the larger sets which are quite expensive. Due to the route UPS is on, we do NOT receive shipments until after my kids are home from school.

"Sure we will happily take your $400 dollars for the Death Star, but no... we can't be bothered spend the money to bother putting it in a box to conceal it when it arrives at your house."

That really is horrible service from Walmart, and yet another reason my holiday shopping dollars will go anywhere else.

^ Such is the price you pay for free shipping. You really need to think about the actual $ it costs to get that heavy physical thing to your door. It's a lot more than $0.

Like was suggested in the other thread as a way to mitigate the problem, I'd gladly give up my Prime, or pay $5 or whatever more to have my $400 item be shipped with proper boxing and extra padding; "white glove" if you will.

I believe someone said they got a Parisian restaurant in a baggie
