Lego isn't stupid. That HUlk Smash lab is horrible.... but add Falcon, Taskmaster and MODOK and us collector idiots will HAVE to buy it. We're being played like a bass fiddle.

Uhhh, I think I'll wait until these sets are on one of, what I'm sure will be, many many sales before running out to buy them. I never understood the mentality of being the first to get something if it is not limited and especailly if it is not released on sale or something. I can imagine there are certain situations, such as kids Bday where they really want the set (and there bday is like a day away or something), for example. Otherwise I do not see the silly rush to buy these. I guess there are those who try to exploit the shortage by buying them to immediately put up on eBay, or craigslist to exploit those who must have it immediately.
Heck, Since I'm in the US, I'd rather wait until March at least where you can buy them and get Martian Manhunter if I had to buy at retail.

Same. I get the excitement, but would much rather wait until they can be had for a decent discount at Amazon.

I only bought the ones that I did because of the sale at TRU. Otherwise, I would've waited. I learned my lesson from buying LotR sets day one and then seeing crazy sales a month or two later.

Canadian Toys R Us have always given me luck, in finding new (even pre-launch) Super Hero or other licensed sets. I can't imagine the American versions are that much more restrictive.

However, I can't find that Red Skull/Captain America tank...truck...thing. My strategy is to tie it into my plan for the Joker's steamroller thing, and just get it all March 1st or 2nd. Free Martian Manhunter!

They play it both ways, though. I'm sure a lot of younger kids who aren't that into superhero comics and cartoons won't know those characters too well... at least, not all of them. They'll be interested in the set because it includes Hulk and a big ol' wall for him to smash.

One audience's filler can be another audience's main selling point. And this happens even in non-licensed themes. The LEGO City Museum Heist's main selling point for AFOLs is the museum itself, since most LEGO City collectors probably have more police helicopters and vans than they need. But for many kids, I imagine the museum is just there to give the bad guys someplace to rob so the police can stop them. They might have very little interest in a museum set without that police/robbery angle.

I randomly stopped at a Walmart last night and found the MODOK set. I was so excited.
It's amazing how a box of plastic bricks can make up for a terrible day.

    Agree with you! Totally!
Finding that one set can really add an extra bounce in my steps and make my workday better (even when the toy is still in the box- it's waiting for you).

The new Doc Ock just doesn't look right to me. I know the yellow printing and hands are meant to be part of the yellow and green costume and yellow gloves, but to me it looks like they have made him with a fleshie head, and a yellow skin torso and hands. He isn't wearing yellow boots (which could have been printed, but weren't) so it doesn't help indicate that he is wearing his classic yellow and green costume and wearing the lab coat over the costume makes the top part of the costume just look like a yellow skin neck.

    image

Also the printing of the lab coat on the legs is awful. The density of print seems to be getting worse and worse when light ink is applied to dark colours.

The head is a nice print, but apart from that, this has to be the worst incarnation of Doc Ock (and I'm including the juniors version too!).

I thought the same thing about the yellow. It looks rubbish.
I'm glad I have a couple of the old versions of Doc Ock!

New Super Heroes sets are sold out at Lego.com presently 2/22 Sat. night.

Yeah they say sold out but the actual page on each one says "Will be available March 1, 2014!". Gonna grab the $50 set and something else for the free Martian Manhunter so they better have them lol :)

Boot printing is not as simple as people often think it is, because there is not currently any mechanism with which the LEGO Group can print the top surface of a minifigure's foot. This means that to have the top surface of the foot match the rest of the boot, the entire leg has to be molded in the color of the boot.

The Wonder Woman minifigure is a prime example. Her boots are Bright Red, and as a result the entire leg has to be Bright Red, with the Light Nougat skin tone printed on the front and side surfaces of the leg. From the back, it looks as though she's wearing a blue thong over red leggings. Do that in Bright Yellow, and you end up with a look that's probably even more off-putting than the current "yellow hands and neckline" look. This is probably why the yellow boots were omitted not just for Doc Ock but also the Flash.

Some people have suggested the solution to this would be to introduce a process for printing the back of a leg. That could perhaps work, but I think part of the reason the LEGO Group hasn't done this is that you couldn't do much with that surface other than flat color — the holes in the back of the leg don't leave a lot of room for elaborate printed detail. Alternatively, the LEGO Group could maybe introduce a process for painting or printing the top of a minifigure's foot. They did this for the longer-legged Jessie and Woody minifigures in LEGO Toy Story, but something tells me that if they could do this just as easily for the classic minifigure legs they would have done so by now.

The Bart and Lisa Simpson minifigures use a different technique for the characters' shorts, shoes, and short sleeves Instead of being printed at all, the leg and arm parts are molded in two different colors of plastic. It's a great technique, and if it could be extended to classic minifigures it could be quite a boon. But at the same time, printing would still be required for characters whose boots are supposed to be a very particular length or shape at the top (for instance, the boots of the CMF Cowgirl).

I guess this is something the LEGO Group will want to devote some serious consideration to in the future, since colorful boots are such a common and distinctive part of character's wardrobes in the superhero genre.

^^ Two colour molding, then printing for the labcoat would have worked for boots too.

Or alternatively, and much simpler, a different design could have been used. Even if they wanted to stick to him wearing his classic style suit with a lab coat over the top, orange instead of yellow would have been better as at least then it wouldn't have been the standard "yellow skin" coloured hands and neckline.

Well, the Martian Manhunter extravaganza starts tomorrow. I hate to say it, but I have a bad feeling my local Lego store is going to be out of the sets I want(Hulk Smash Lab, Cap Amer Hydra Tank, Death Star Trooper battlepack). They always sell out so fast, and take f o r e v e r to get new stock in. I hate ordering online and having to wait for my Lego... sigh.

^ I've been holding out on any new Lego purchases because of the Martian Manhunter promo. The wait is almost over!

Just got Cap Vs Hydra and The Riddler Chase from [email protected] to qualify for Martian Manhunter. Now all we need are Cyborg and Green Lantern and then we'll have all of the main Justice Leaguers.

I thought the coloring on Doc Ock was wrong as well. I dug out an old toy I had from the 80's (Secret Wars) and the coloring looks exactly like the new minifig (except no yellow boots).

    Yes, yes and yes!

Just put my order in to get Martian Manhunter. There are so many more characters that they really need to add, both on DC and Marvel themes.

The single minifigure polys that aren't available in sets generally do. I've been offered £20 for my Jor-El and it's shocking what people are selling hulk minifigs that have been taken from the key rings for on eBay.

Yeah I actually just purchased a Hulk keyring with my order to get Manhunter. 4.99 definitely beats the ebay prices lol :)

I just bought Parisian Restaurant to get my Martian Manhunter. Used a 5% off ebates-type deal, plus $15 in VIP points. Better than paying $20 in the aftermarket for Martian Manhunter alone. And for the most part, I find the only real deals you find on modulars in in those "Buy 2 Get 1 Free" deals, so you have to over-purchase. And agreed: Marvel/DC have so many characters, LEGO could just do series after series of Collectible Minifgs on super heroes alone!

Will the Green Lantern ever come out in a set?
I notice that the minifig. was only available as SDCC exclusive in '11.

@byolego - I think that it is very likely that he will appear at some point, although most probably in a different costume to his SDCC appearance.

Looking at that Green Lantern, It would like to see a few more greens, Kilowog for one and some Yellow, a Sinestro in both colors, as would a Guardian.

I'd really like to have one of the micro figure pieces with print to look like The Atom, think that would make a classic JLA/JSA awesome.

I ordered Hulk lab smash, yesterday morning and a LEGO movie minifig so I can get Martian Man hunter. All I need now is Green Lantern for my justicr league. I would like to see some justice league sets nearer the release of the film, I reckon they'd go down well.
  • luckie_reubsluckie_reubs Member Posts: 299
Technically, the Justice League is currently WW, Supes, Bats, Flash, Aquaman, and Cyborg. In the comics, the Hal Jordan Green Lantern hasn't been around recently as a member of the League, although he is traditionally a member of it.

J'onn J'onnzz (Martian Manhunter) is set to (I think) be the leader of the upcoming Justice League United. So he's not really a member of the JL as it currently exists. I'm excited to get the mini fig, though, and hopefully we'll get a Cyborg and Green Lantern sometime soon to have a current JL lineup.
  • ShibShib UKMember Posts: 5,421
He's one of the traditional standard line up but since the new 52 thing they don't seem to have decided exactly what team he should be a part of (I've not read a huge amount of the new 52 comics but I've seen him tied to The Justice league, the Justice league of America and Stormwatch) I think a set with a decent green arrow would be good for a tradition JL line up, but as has been stated before there are so many other possible minifigs that could make cool superhero teams

I agree with a Green arrow set. I would love a Green Arrow minifigure which is affordable and not a custom or an exclusive.

I feel for you. I live less than 2 miles from a LEGO Store, but I was busy all day Saturday. By the time I made it there (around 6pm), all of the new Superheroes sets were gone except Electro and Penguin. I ended up ordering online to make sure I didn't miss out on MM. Which sucked, because I have a coupon for instore only to save $20 on $100. :( Oh well. It's likely that I will spend >$100 at some point this year. Still makes me mad that I have to wait.

Went to my local LEGO store on Sunday and almost all of the new SH sets were out of stock. All they had was the penguin and spider-copter sets, the latter of which I have almost no interest in. Had to settle for the Penguin set, plus a couple PAB cups and movie sets to get me to $75.
  • ShibShib UKMember Posts: 5,421
I don't live anywhere near a Lego store but these stories make me a little bit glad of that, held off buying a couple of sets I'd been after to get the Martian Manhunter, if I'd gone in to a store to buy and they'd have been oos i'd have been very annoyed and probably wound up ordering online anyways

I know it is not as good as walking out with a box, but if you at a store they will order online and ship for free if they don't have it in stock.
