What a great read for a castle fan like me! :-D

I have to ask: In the forestmen section, there are pictures of set 1680. One of them has set number 1675. But that value pack included 1877, not 1680. Or did I get something wrong?

These are great. I'm in the middle of reassembling 375 and 1589 for sale. It might be a push to include 1589 in Castle, but part of me loves the idea that in lego-land there's history. The original yellow castle from say the 15th Century by the 20th Century is just ruins and is incorporated into the modern town (like in York).
I'm loving putting these sets together. They don't fit with my city and I can't keep everything, but I'm glad to have a chance to own them temporarily :)

I'm not selling my black monach's castle though! That's my one to keep!

    Very nice, interesting blog.
I've been reading it from EB forum, and like the faction-wise reviews.

    1680 vs. 1877:
    1877 is a forestmen set - a part of a value pack 1675.
1680 is the same set as 1877, released separately in UK only with an extra minifig (hard to find with a box).

Good job, again! I only have the Wolfpack Renegades, which could be one of the best wagons LEGO has made. So many features packed into such a small set.

Thanks! I have 1877 with box, but not 1680. Maybe not neccesary since they're so similar, but I'm a completist :)

I've also wondered what line set 6018 belongs to. Seems like the jury is still out on that one.

You can't collect everything when you're a kid, and I picked my poison; it was Space. So I never got into these when I was a kid. But damn, they look awesome. Maybe some day, I can start tracking these down.

    Very cool blog!

Wow, cheers guys its nice to get some good feedback.

Duchessa, boba is right, I am sorry i didn't make that clearer in my blog, i will go back and try and to re write that at some point. Thanks for clearing that up boba

SavageSteel, good for you, a true lego fan could never sell the Black Monarchs Castle its just too nice (as is the Black Knights castle :)

Stuboy and boba thanks for the nice comments and yes I really like the Wolfpack wagon too (it was almost impossible to find any flaws in it) it just has so much playing potential.

Rolla I hope you decied to join the castle craze one day its well worth it :)

    Cheers all

the next time I add a topic will be to show you my review on the Dragon Masters

In my regulated Lego collecting days of childhood, the Black Knights were THE faction to have. They just seemed so much more badass than the "noble" crusaders and the grungy Wolfpack (two early 90's references in one sentence!). It never occurred to me that they might have been forgotten or confused for another faction, but your article reminded me of all the little idiosyncrasies between the minifigures and their regalia in the sets. Anyway, looking forward to the eventual entry on the Royal Knights, the first new Castle faction that came out during my early Lego years.
