    I'm loving everything! They fixed the Sentinel head, he's got excellent articulation, and he's based by the looks of it on the earlier Sentinal's, IMHO like Stephen Lang's cruddy sentinel's. Blackbird captures perfectly the look of the 90's animated, thought not in size, sure, it could be better, but with the news that its an evergreen theme I'm not worrying, how many X-Wing's have they made for Star Wars? We'll get a big one eventually. For those interested, here's the link to FBTB's pics, much better ones at that. It appears Storm's cape goes over her arms:

    Anybody notice that it says "X-Men 1"? I'm hoping for a D2C "X-Men 2". I'm thinking the Blackbird's about the size of the rear half of the Quinjet, 18 studs ish.

    ^With respect, it's hard to even begin to guess what version of the sentinel that thing is supposed to be, simply because of how poor the model is. My initial guess is that it's based off the Ultimates version, but it's nearly impossible to say because there's no version of a sentinel that dinky or with that ridiculous a head.

    The other figures don't really offer a frame of reference, either, as Wolverine is an era-spanning outfit, Cyclops and Storm are in their 70's attire and Magneto is in his 80's 'headmaster and not a villain at all' costume.

    The mini-jet doesn't bug me, and the box doesn't try to pass it off as the Blackbird anyway, so the only real problem here is the sentinel, which really needed to be a set unto itself. That's how I'd have done it, anyway.

    I, too, would like a bigger, better, Sentinel as one of the famous £20 3 minifig sets, maybe Beast, Bishop, and Jean Grey with a bigger Sentinel, those 20 feet tall ones later on in the comics. My guess on the Sentinel was based on how small it is, ones after tended to mimic powers or be a lot taller. My guess on the time frame? As you say, Mag is from his stint as Headmaster, while those particular X-Men with those costumes appeared together around #154-#170 ish (1981-1983) of the original X-Men run. As for the Bird? Mid nighties around the time of the cartoon would be my guess, although that's up to interpretation . Magneto's costumes around 1987 ish, I remember it from the original X-Men V Avengers.

    Guardians of the Galaxy got three Lego sets as well.  There was a 665-piece version of The Milano with Gamora (Zoe Saldana) at the controls inside while Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) floated nearby with a laser in hand so that the two could battle Ronan the Accuser (Lee Pace) in his own smaller ship side by side.  A second set called Nowhere Escape Mission showed off a three-minifigure-high Groot (voiced by Vin Diesel) as well as a Rocket Raccoon (voiced by Bradley Cooper) riding in a bubble-like vehicle.  The centerpiece of the set was a two-story brown and gray structure with Sakaaran manning a laser on the second floor.  The box art put the set on a dirt floor surrounded by trees suggesting that the movie action could take place in some sort of forest clearing.  Last up was the Starblaster Showdown package featuring a blue and yellow ship with a Nova officer inside.  Star Lord is again seen floating outside the vehicle, but this time he’s holding a simple, grey ball.  Across the way is the enemy component of the set, a small black, brown and grey ship with noticeably thin wings belonging to Sakaaran.

    The big shockers for me are the duplo sets. Batman and Superman for two year olds. I can see a few new dads enjoying those sets.

    I really love the design of the Blackbird. It's nice and smooth, and the shape really does resemble the Blackbird quite nicely IMO, at least as it appears in some media. It also seems to have a reasonable amount of interior space — the cockpit alone fits two figs, and there may be more room in the back (I definitely see a hinge, and it doesn't seem to be used for mere shaping). On a side note, I love that the missiles in the back fold down for a sleeker shape. The ship is definitely not on par with a UCS set in its level of detail, but it's still a fantastic model.

    The Sentinel is also an awesome design. The only part of it I don't really like are its "fingers".

    Glad I've finally found the images for those. I'm one of the new dads (well mine are 2 1/2 ) who can't wait to get that Duplo... just hope our two don't grow out of Duplo before I can get the sets! Of course that wouldn't be too bad as they'd be on to LEGO proper!

    Now while I'm here... someone please tell me if there is still a rumoured Green Lantern set coming along! I've already started to save up for March to get my Martian Manhunter!

    ^ there's an announcement on a UCS in March so may be the green lantern will be part of that set? I think its the rumoured Batman Tumbler

    I read before about the UCS in march and how it could be Green Lantern is part of that set. But that just doesn't match up with the concept of a UCS Tumbler. I can't see how GL would fit into that theme.
    Now if it's a UCS JLA Satellite - which probably would make my planed MOC build out of the water - then I can see GL in that, Hall of Justice or similar also makes sense.
    But I just can't marry up the idea of a UCS Tumbler in minifig scale also having Green Lantern or anyone other than Batman (and Dark Knight Batman) or maybe Movie Joker.

    ^ yes, you could be right. In terms of getting the green lantern anytime soon, then this is the best bet, albeit an unlikely one.

    For those who might be interested... no SET rumors, but this image shows a Green Lantern key light that is decidedly NOT the one released at Comic-Con or used in the LEGO Movie. Different face, torso, and color scheme. All in all, more inspired by his comics appearance than his cinematic appearance. This almost certainly foreshadows a new Green Lantern minifigure in the future! The only question is, how long a wait might it be... will it be in a 2015 set, or is some new DC Super Heroes set going to catch us by surprise before the year is up?

    ^ that robin looks different, but im sure it is the damian wayne one! I dont know what made people think the movie version figure was coming out its clearly the sdcc exclusive.

    Kudos on the find, GL is a good move for tlg as they could throw in some trans green blocks and say kids build your own constructs!

    I don't claim to be an x-men expert but that vehicle is not a blackbird, major giveaway, it isn't black, also way to small it's not entirely the wrong shape but not right either. At a guess it best resembles the Dove aircraft that appeared in last years comic run, not a perfect match but closer that the blackbird. In reality I guess it is a bit of a hybrid design to hit a price point, either way it is nice and I like it, the sentinel is a bit of a mess but again I'd rather have it than not.

    ^The Blackbird in the comics was actually navy blue for a looooooong time, as was the version in the X-Men animated series and the playset from the 90's line of action figures, so it wouldn't surprise me if that WAS their idea of the Blackbird, especially given the similarity in general shape.

    I consider the Jim Lee version of the Blackbird as built by Forge to be the canonical one. But the one in this set looks pretty good to me, certainly in compasrison to that abomination of a sentinel.

    I just looked at the FBTB photos... is that a Cars cowl for the Sentinel chestpiece??? If so, that is brilliant NPU even though I hate the overall look of the Sentinel.

    GoTG is looking awesome, loved the trailer, the Milano ship and everything else, must buy for all of it. The X-jet also looks great, Marvel 2014 summer, best wave yet.

    Best year yet IMO for Marvel, Avengers, X-Men, GOTG, and Spiderman. And finally, it appears on Eurobricks many UKers are finding the Avengers/Spiderman sets at Smyths and TRU, I might have a look in at my local branch of Smyths to see if they have them.

    Just grabbed 4 of 5 Marvel 2014 sets from the initial wave. The Captain America/Red Skull set was the only one they didn't have like 20 of at my local Toys R Us. Coquitlam, outside of Vancouver in Canada, is where I found them.

    I also got the Man Bat set, all the Hobbit stuff, and the Flash/Riddler/Beware the Batman sets there prior to the official launch.

    Can't wait for that GOTG line, the Blackbird or even Martian Manhunter to make their appearances though.

    A local independent toy store in Scarborough, England had all of the new Spider-Man sets, however I am unable to purchase any as I am strapped for cash

    One of my Walmarts had what looked like all of the new SH sets out. I couldn't believe that the Green Goblin set was $44.99 for < 300 pieces. That one is clearance all the way.

    The original X-Men blackbird was modeled after the Lockheed SR-71 and has changed a little over time. I would have preferred something like this http://lego.cuusoo.com/ideas/view/46830 to the new Lego version. TLG went cheap on the blackbird they are just putting a kids toy, little thought on design thought. I think it is a good year figure wise, and the GOTG set look pretty good but the rest of the Marvel sets over all are D. DC sets even the little ones are better.

    I'm feeling both models in the set personally. I think the blackbird doesn't look the same as an SR71 due to it being a military vehicle, or something with Lockheed themselves not allowing representation without a licensing agreement?

    That's pretty bad if they are now using £1 = $1 for pricing. They'll need to be discounted by stores to shift them.

    @Chrisbstm: my main beef with current Lego version is the size, they should have made it big enough to seat at least 4-6 figures, it's the X-Men, not the X-Man.

    I prefer the LEGO one to that one on LEGO Cuusoo. Sure, the LEGO Cuusoo one is more realistic in its color palette, but in terms of shaping it looks less like the actual Blackbird. Its fuselage is a long, straight cylinder, whereas the actual Blackbird's fuselage is sort of like an apple seed — pointed on both ends, wider towards one end, and slightly flattened.

    And why would it looking like a kids' toy mean less design thought? Honestly, designing for kids still requires plenty of design thought, because kids can have very particular tastes that aren't as strictly governed by realistic constraints as adults' tastes. Designing a detailed replica and designing a model with lots of shelf appeal and play value require very different kinds of design thought.

    The Cuusoo model you linked seems like on a structural level, it took less design thought than the LEGO model, since it's based so strictly on the design of LEGO City planes and doesn't attempt any creative solutions for the Blackbird's distinctive shape. Which is not to disparage the creator of that Cuusoo proposal — after all, it's just a concept, and I'm sure they fully anticipate substantial improvements if it were approved as a set. They also put plenty of impressive design thought and effort into the interior.

    I would of loved something like Claremont's Blackbird, but I'll take what I can get in regards to X-Men sets. In fact, if I remember correctly, what would be know as the Blackbird was called the Strato jet in Giant Sized X-Men 1, then later on would be referred to as the Blackbird by Count Nefaria in X-Men #95, and has also been called the X-Jet on a number of occasions since. As for the set, it sure as hell could be better, but I'm not complaining, it's got seats, a roof, engines and guns, anything else I can add on myself.

    That CUUSOO one is not very good, giant juniorized generic plane. No thanks.

    The one from the Marvel game though is the best design I have seen, but it wouldn't have been practical.

    Stopped by one TRU and got the Hydra Tank and Doc Oc sets.
    Got the Joker Steamroller and Flash sets at the other down the road.

    Buy one, get one 50% off for both transactions, plus they were MSRP. It felt like Christmas.

    Got the 2 x Joker Steams rollers 50% off second on newly released sets...SWEET!
    I ended up doing 6 different transaction at TRU to get the BoGo and purchased a few other new sets.

    Ran into the Green Goblin one at Walmart today. Absolutely pathetic set for the price.

    Is that Hulk Smash Lab an exclusive at Target? I looked all over TRU for it and couldnt find it and have yet to see it at any Walmart.

    I've seen Hulk Smash at Target, Walmart and TRU (I went to two locations for each store). Most of the time there is only one left. I think Lego fans went out in drove to snatch the new stuff. That's why it is hard to find.

    I've seen all the new Marvel sets at Walmart. That Green Goblin set is the worst set I have ever seen. What were they thinking!??! They can't even use the Iron Man excuse that they were given no access to the actual script... it's not based on a movie! Although the MODOK head is hilariously awesome, that set looks like crap too. The Juniors sets look better than the actual sets! Get your crap together, LEGO SH!

    So guys , here i was contemplating trying to convince myself about half a dozen sets i was on the fence about . One of them was yet another half baked lab for Hulk to smash , just so i can get Mr. Purple pants and maybe the extras , Thor etc . I also thought hard if i should drop more Lego cash on the endearing but Junior "Defend Bat cave" set . The colors are just so vintage batman ..

    i looked hard and this is the "for " argument i came up with : ADD HULK LAB TO BAT CAVE = WIN WIN !

    I think it will work well for me, get all the wanted mini figs + get an all new vintage bat cave . What do you fine fellas think ?
