[US] TRU Free LEGO building event 2/8/2014

Anyone going to this to get their free Emmet car?
club lego event February 8, noon-2.
Text reads as:
Come build Emmet’s Car from The LEGO Movie at Toys “R” Us!

When: February 8th, 2014 from 12-2pm.

Where: All Toys “R” Us locations

Event is intended for children ages 5 and up. Event materials available while supplies last and are available only to participating children. Limit one per child.

    We'll try to get to it; we've got a 4 ½ yr old and a 6 ½ yr old. I'll try to get both of them in on this. We've been loving playing with the Lego blocks lately.

    that look like the 3177, and also i have tried a few of these events in the pass that hosted by Toys R us, when i got there, no lego pieces there!

    Always get there early...it is always while supplies last. We are usually the first ones at our location and not even majorly early...a half hour is fine. Much shorter wait than Lego store events.

    Have you seen them run out? My TRU says that it's much better if you come later because they still have the bricks but the line and craziness are gone.

    I don't have kids, but I've been able to pick up multiples of these small sets in the past by going there at 2 and asking the employee running the booth.

    ^^ My local TRU usually gets their supply for the event 2-3days ahead (usually Thursday). They've usually got extras that they put out on the counter for anyone that wants them on Monday.

    I've never seen them run out, but I see a lot of facebook posts of people complaining about them running out at theirs. I've heard people complain that our store runs out if they came later too, but I'm always early for everything.

    ^^ It's nice that they put them out for takers after the event. My TRU always claims they have sent the extras back.

    It looks like a fun build. The car is in the movie for five seconds, but it is a fun looking car.

    Nope, went to a local TRU at 1230 and they were jam packed, and nearly out of stuff, and the line went through half the store. Wasn't going to fight the crowd. It didn't help that the next closest TRU had just closed, so all the people who would have went there came here.

    Very nice 2 in 1 build. It was a long line and I asked the staff. The store has 100 kits. As all Toysrus build event, you need to be there early.

    Ours did run out at 12:45. It's an excellent build, I came home and put an Emmet in it right away. There is something about these little cars that I love. I ended up buying a #4207 gas station to go with it. :-) They sold a ton of movie sets today too so this was a very smart build for them to do.
    I was also about to get one of the Spaceship Spaceship Spaceship t-shirts through a trade with one of the employees.

    We waited an hour (having arrived at 11:50 to find quite a line), and they ran out of parts for Emmet's car 2 families in front of us, with just as many people in line behind us as when we had in front when the event began at noon.

    I wasn't there, but they were handing them out like popcorn when my kid went. Apparently he got four or five. That was at 12:45 and there was no line. It's the first time he's been able to make it to one of these. Weird how radically the situation varies from store to store.

    We just got back. They also raffled off a $50 TRU gift card, a Lord Business Lair set, and a Lego Movie 3DS game. We won *both* The Lord Business Lair AND the 3DS game. :D Score!

    We got there with about 15 minutes left and they were all gone, first time that's ever happened to us. But they had plenty of official Lego instructions left so we grabbed a few of them, we'll just PAB the parts later. Didn't win anything in the raffle either.

    I asked the girl running the event when they ran out and she said about 12:30. So I asked for one of the Lego build boxes and she gave us one, nice of her for that atleast.

    At my store, they ran out around 12:30 as well. They "improvised" and got the Chima build parts out - nice touch, but not sure what they did when that ran out. As others have said, there was a lot more people than normal for TRU build events.

    I won the gift card, and someone and his girlfriend won the game and Lord Business set, but the crowd complained and one person was pretty rude. Who ended up winning the Business set, so :/
    either way it was a fun day at TRU!

    Our TRU ran out at 12:25. We had a big line, and we didn't get the build. They gave out #40032 the witch polybag, which made no sense to us. There was a limited amount of those, too. I was able to snag a box like @oldtodd33. My son cried, since the McDonald's we had gone to earlier for lunch didn't have the LEGO cups, for some reason. It didn't make for a fun beginning to the day. I did pick up the #40077 TRU Geoffrey polybag, which made me (not him) happy.

    We arrived at 1135, event surprisingly started on time. Very organized and each bag was pre-packed. By 1230, they were all out. The mgr was very nice and gave out a few leftover witch/rocking horse Poly's, but then seeing there were at least 40+ more families, started giving each child in line a Lego movie minifig. There were some disappointed kids but I thought our TRU was very generous to give everyone something. My detail oriented 7 yo built both versions of the car and said the piece count/directions were wrong. I watched him rebuild and count and he was right. Lego builds strong minds! Bonus- we won the 3DS game (guess we should buy the system before it is outdated)

    I wasn't there in person but I hear that many of the TLM sets sold out at our TRU even though the build event was sparsely attended.

    We got to our TRU at about 12:15, and the line was about 10 people deep at that point, and that was only because they were packing up the bags as people got there (poor planning, IMO). The downside was that we ended up hanging around there for 2 hours waiting on the raffle, and we didn't win (had three chances with three of us), but the winner of the Lord Business set was a kid, so that works out well for him. We came home with the Getaway Glider and Cuckoo Cloud Palace plus Abe Lincoln and a Calamity Boy, so that's a pretty good pull, IMO.

    This is the first TRU build I've done, so I was pretty impressed overall, based upon what I expected from this particular store. (We still don't have the Super Secret Police Enforcer) That said, the Target is across from the biggest theater in town, and they were wiped out of mini figs and movie sets today, so that's good for them.

    We got to ours at about 10:30 and shopped around (a lot of time in the baby department as we have a new baby on the way..welcome back duplo). Anyways we were in line by 11 (the kids like to be first in line so we can get lunch right after). We got through quick and my 4 year old made me build her car there. We left but came back for the drawing at 1:30. They had already packed everything up so I'm guessing they ran out of cars. The drawing was at 2 and we did not win anything, but that was no big deal as Emmet's car was a great build...trying to see if I have the pieces at home to build another one for myself(think I'll have trouble finding the doors and the black top).

    The thing that amazes me is that I always tell kids at our school about these builds and no one ever shows up. Its free Lego bricks...why would they want to miss that?

    We've got a small TRU here in Iowa and a few times over the last couple of years we've been the only ones to attend. We got there about 12:15 and there were approx. 30 kids/parents in line waiting to build. Usually the TRU has everything pre-packed...but there were new employees and they handed every kid the directions and then told them to pick out the number of pieces they needed. Not well organized for kids..it was slow and chaotic. We then went to McDonalds for the cups and came back for the drawing because they said you needed to be in attendance to win. It seemed kinda odd that box they were picking from only had 20-30 tickets in it and that was the exact same about of people in attendance and we didn't have to wait to redraw for those that had already left. We're assuming they only kept the tickets for the last few people that showed up for the event.
    I see some were saying they had a $50 gift card for the drawing.....ours was only $10.
    At least after the event we went to see the movie and they had a Lego table out in the lobby for free building too!

    Ours was out at about 12:40. Some one mentioned that they only had only 40 sets.
    They had each piece in its own box which was a bad idea. People could get more than what they needed. We were able to build 80% of the car. A few others were with us and we traded a few pieces back and forth which was cool. They then brought out a box of misc Legos which was also nice. Over all we left happy and when we got home were able to finish the car.

    Did anyone notice that this time there were 2 sets of directions ( car and airplane ) instead of the usual one? And did anyone get both?

    Our TRU ran out of the free build 2 families in front of us. But brought out some boxes of bricks and told us to pick through and build what we wanted. We got some nice bricks (filled the plastic bags left from the car build) and the kids were excited to be able to build without directions. We were glad the TRU improvised since we had to drive an hour to get there. Happy that the McDonald's cup comes with a free legoland admission that is good for over a year. That was a nice bonus.

    we arrived around 12:20 and they ran out some of the parts already, so i just built with whatever they have left for my two boys, then go home and dig up spare parts to try to get as close as I can. My friend went to another TRU and they were all out, just hand out instruction.

    they have parts in box and let kids pick up parts. not organized and as i saw some other kids picks a bunch of extra. so end up the people come in later will not have all the parts

    There was only one extra part necessary to convert the car to a plane. The extra part and plane instructions were given out to everyone at our build.

    I've only gone to a few of these, and I've never seen a store that prepacks these, they've always been you pick out your own pieces.

    Our store will prepack some if they are slow and have time. Yesterday they were late setting up and swamped so that didn't happen.

    My TRU ran out at 1:00 but the day was not lost as I bought all 8 LEGO Movie cups at a nearby McDonalds so I don't have to drive all over to countless McDonalds trying to find these.

    MCD we went to yesterday only had WyldStyle cups...was hoping for Batman for my little guy since he's been on a Batman binge lately.

    3 others McDonalds said they only had Emmett or Emmet and Wyldstyle. The last o e I visited helped me out. Spoke with a manager who brought out the cups I needed.

    We got there around 11:45 and they started around 11:50. I think they had run out by about 12:15. The employee was telling the kids to take enough pieces to build the car and the plane. No wonder why they didn't last long. I saw the enormous line and just told my kids to take enough pieces to build one or the other (but not at the same time). We didn't stick around for the drawing, as we were headed to watch the movie afterwards.

    ^that's what my TRU was doing - take the pieces to build both separately. Someone earlier said it was only one part that was needed to make the plane? Twice as many people could have enjoyed the build if they had done it that way at our TRU.

    Yes, the only extra piece needed to build the plane is the part in step 1, the grey 2x8.

    That was unfortunate and obviously the people who handled the event did not pay attention. The staff at the Toysrus I went to understand the instruction perfectly and packaged for crowd as the line moved quickly and orderly. They actually pre-packaged a lot of them ahead of time and marked each parts tray with the number of pieces needed for both builds so additional staff can jump in helping quickly without much instruction.

    I wonder if they'd let me volunteer to make it more effective? Or at least give them some pointers. I'd be willing to come in earlier and pre-bag even.
