@Pitfall69 yes you're right just re-checked it and I've mixed it up. It's early morning over here and I should go to bed.

I still find Weathertops. They are in the wild.

My tru has a pile of wt still.
  • BrickarmorBrickarmor Member Posts: 1,258
The fact that they were ~$40 for a while and in several places made me get a lot (a LOT) more of them than I would have otherwise. I had planned to raise the price of my Ringwraiths after Xmas, forgot, and somebody cleaned me out about two weeks ago.
  • cloaked7cloaked7 Member Posts: 1,448
Also, they may have a Ringwraith poly. That would sure hurt the resell price of WT too.
  • prevereprevere Member Posts: 2,923
^A ringwraith poly? I don't think we've ever seen a horse in a poly. That would be something to behold.

That would tank the price of Weathertop. I have maybe 8 of them but would unload immediately if I saw actual news of a poly.

I've sold the last of my #8043, good timing as #42030 sounds VERY similar.
  • stevemackstevemack Member Posts: 934
They wouldn't release the same set so soon, there's rumours of it being lots of things :)

^Remote control trench digger (with actuators) sounds like #8043 to me.

I was hoping #42030 would be a giant RC backhoe/loader. If #42030 is an excavator then #42006 probably won't do that well EOL.

I think you're right @TheLoneTensor. I suspect even if there is a final wave of LOTR sets though, there won't be a set with more than 1 Ringwraith. Probably the Witch King would be all we would see, in which case the set should still do ok. It is a fun little set to be sure.

If they make further LOTR sets (which is by no means assured) I don't see why they would redo the ringwraith. There are enough scenes missing without needing to go back and do another ringwraith scene. As noted by @pharmjod, the Witch King might make sense if him vs Eowyn in a set, but not another normal ringwraith. I also doubt they'd do a ringwraith plus horse in a poly, especially as licensed polys tend to support current / slightly future sets, not past ones.

I got my nine (well, 12 of them as I ended up with some spares as someone was selling them cheap on BL). I'll happily sell off the extra ones if we get a Witch King.

From brickfan: "Smaug will be a similar size to the dragon in the Dragon Mountain (70403) set. The Witch King will also make an appearance and will glow in the dark. Elrond makes a return and looks similar to the polybag version from the LOTR game pre-order bonus." I'm guessing the Witch King hints at future lotr sets.

I thought 42030 was the Volvo L350F frontloader? The pic of that set has been out for a few weeks now. Completely different from an excavator. Am I missing something?

^@Huw reports that it has huge wheels so it can't be like 8043, maybe it a big #8265 instead.

It has no watermark but not sure if this is allowed but this is the technic flagship 42030 model for 2014:

  • doriansdaddoriansdad Member Posts: 1,337
I wonder if this will be available at Target and Walmart in the USA?

Something tells me that picture is indeed watermarked, and that it was strategically cropped to get that fuzzy picture of the set shown on the ipad.

Somewhere theres confusion, as the one posted by @Doriansdad would be a front loader/bulldozer and would have big wheels. A volvo trench digger would either be tracked or have small wheels and would look much like 8043 but with a smaller bucket.

All these days TRU was the only other option for technic. Now walmart and tgt already have technic sets and will probably get all of them. TRU can no longer say exclusive on their pages for technic sets.

I do not see how this is a remake if it is a front loader that is RC. The last front loader was not.
I get that the design is used before, but they already have a RC Bulldozer and RC Excavator, and Dump trucks are apparently not exciting enough for LEGO as a flagship, so you have this one. Which looks much bigger scale than the last Front loader IMO
    Though this is no 'trenchdigger'
From what I have seen on Volvo's site, a trench digger has wheels and looks like an excavator. Good grief I hope it is not that.

Looks the same type of vehicle me... Even if it's bigger and improved, there's a lot of stuff out there to make. I'd rather see something else that was not done before as a flagship.

    pharmjod
  • DaraghDaragh Member Posts: 363
I still think that for it's time the Shuttle was the best Technic set and is still well up there, nothing to challenge in the last few waves.
  • TheLoneTensorTheLoneTensor Member Posts: 3,937

^ C'mon, the shuttle was good, but with the exception of #9398 *, every recent Technic flagship has been stellar. Each has room for improvement (as per the awesome mod upgrades that exist), but even with the base models, the engineering is relatively phenomenal for a plastic toy.

The new 42030 Volvo Front Loader uses Unimog Tires with new Yellow wheels(same size as the Unimog, but they are the newer 6 hole type)...

The 42029 brings back the 5 x 11 red panels(a lot of them) so if you are sitting on any of them or have a high price on them, it's time unload them...

Yeah, I agree. But, IF the set did come in a poly it would be awesome. If not a poly, maybe a small set similar to a SW Battle Pack? Now, that would be even better than awesome. Ginormous! :-) And, then a Uruk-hai Battle Pack. There could be some awesome LOTR and Hobbit Battle Packs. The things that dreams are made of. :-)

  • cloaked7cloaked7 Member Posts: 1,448
Yup, a Frontend Loader as a Flagship Technic set would be Ginormous too! :-)

^ Then you have the Front End Loader that is to scale with the above two images of the Dump Truck:

One more image, again for scale... some of these pieces of equipment are huge, so big they are shipped in parts and actually built on site, many of them will never leave, they'll be left on site forever, never to be moved again from their initial location.

he he. Yup, it is a tad bit ironic. Just a tad... To call a LEGO set GINORMOUS! Course TLG can have ginormous ideas. Like LOTR Battle Sets.

    Hi all,

The flagship set for technics this year is indeed a Volvo set, I just saw this a couple of days ago in a retailer catalog

It has no watermark but not sure if this is allowed but this is the technic flagship 42030 model for 2014:

The small summer set is a nice little yellow bulldozer with a cleverly designed front blade and a V4 engine...
  • Thanos75Thanos75 Member Posts: 1,120
I bought a collection last year and the Technic Shuttle was in it. The set had been built and torn back down and was still in the original box. One day I was bored and thought I would give it a go.....about 25% complete and it hit me that I'm not really a Technic set fan. So I took it back apart and put it back in its box.
