VIP early access set purchase February 17

I went to one of my local Lego stores yesterday and was given a February calendar of events, in it there is a reference to a VIP early access to purchase a UCS set, does anyone know what this will be?

    Am I missing something? I don't see where it says that it is a Simpsons Lego set. I see it says " VIPs ONLY: Be the first to preview and buy a new Exclusive LEGO set starting February 17."

    In case no one noticed, the Simpsons' House is not the only set that would work perfectly for that time window.
    #70810 Metalbeard's Sea Cow, anyone?

    I mean with The Lego Movie coming out just days before, #70810 would seem more likely, wouldn't it?

    The movie tie-in sets may be a bit more timely, although I'm not sure why this set would be exclusive to VIPs AFTER the movie has already been in theaters for a week. If anything, release to VIPs only a couple weeks before the movie releases.

    If I were Lego, I'd want to capture as much of the "first weekend" excitement as possible and have those sets out for sale the week before the movie.

    Also, they should be selling these sets in the theaters! ;) Could you imagine the kids begging their parents for a set in the theater lobby?

    It would be awesome if they could offer a coupon (voucher) of some sort with you ticket purchase - free poly bag at the Lego store or % off your Lego Movie sets. There's probably a law against that somewhere though.

    The Sea Cow has an official release date of March 1st with a price tag of £170. With a mystery two week VIP window in the diary, it is likely it will be the Sea Cow.

    The Simpsons House will be priced at £180 and is rumoured to have a February 1st release date.

    1. It will probably be a The Lego Movie MeatlBeard's Sea Cow #70810 as that is the month The Lego Movie is out.

    2. The Simpsons House #71006. I think they are planing to release the set in March because the Modulars come out in March. Parisian Restaurant #10243 was released on January 1st so I think it will take its place and be released in March.

    3. It won't be a Star Wars set because they don't release them on May 4th.

    As has been pointed out, the store calendar doesn't mention a UCS set, so I've removed that from the thread title to avoid further confusion. Since the early access effectively ends on February 28th, presumably because it then becomes widely available, I think the guess of #70810 Sea Cow makes the most sense.

    I'm hoping it's the Simpsons house. A LEGO Ambassador on Eurobricks said that the Sea Cow costs 300 euros :'(

    That's absurd. LEGO lost their damn mind if that's a $400 set.
    There goes any and all interest. My wife is a HUGE fan of any thing pirate and she laughed when I told her that.

    I'll be getting The Sea Cow early if confirmed, really excited for this. £170 seems good value if correct.

    It seems some wires are being crossed here.

    170 Euro for The Simpsons House is a good deal. 300 Euro for Sea Cow is not.

    We really don't know if either is accurate, time will tell.

    IMHO, that set was one of the most disappointing sets I own. It never worked due to its weight.

    ^ Good to know. I had several Ferris Wheels pass through my hands, never could bring myself to open and build one, always got the feeling it looked better on the box than it would in real life.

    Glad to know my gut isn't nuts. :)

    @legofantexas: yes, all great sets, but also look at the smaller sets. There are so many recent releases that are just plain nice which adds to the dilemma of what to get first, second, third, etc. I think my wife might be plotting my demise based off of my excitement. If I go absent for an extended period of time I am either 6 feet under or in a state of constant LEGO building with no time to come up for air.

    I agree with LFT on regular quotas of big/UCS type sets. We are rather spoilt and are getting used to 5-6 excellent large sets a year, not to mention the often large flagship sets from themes. I sometimes wonder if it's a stroke of genius from Lego that quite a few people feel they need to have every big set each year. Taking it to its logical conclusion, running out of space is inevitable, or at the very least lego moves in to inappropriate areas of the house. As my girlfriend recently put it, I had lego in every room of the house apart from the kitchen and bathroom, and it needs to as a minimum stay that way, or preferably some minor reversal of this trend.

    My New Years resolution is to really work hard mentally to buy what I like only, not worry about trying to get everything or when things might go out of line etc.

    Sea Cow is a definite, I love steampunk and the sheer oddity of it all. The Simpsons House is just a maybe at most. Modulars I gave up on some time back due to an inevitable lack of display space.

    It was pointed out to me by my much better half that our kids are only 7 and 5 and their room is already full to bursting (literally) with lego, the front room is currently full of lego. Theres lego in our hallway, dining room and even a little in the kitchen. Its certainly true that we can barely fit any more in so what are we going to do for the next 6 or so years worth of birthdays??? She doesn't even have a clue just how much more is in the loft. She's absolutely right though, we do need to pull back a bit on the lego as its getting silly.

    I'm going to try to give the Movie sets a miss, to be honest this was helped massively when i discovered that the fire engine isn't a 2 in 1 set. :-(

    None of the movie sets are really that appealing to me except the Cloud Cuckoo one. The rest just look like mixed-up versions of former sets.

    The CMFs look good though. So far, I've only gotten the Panda.

    Over Christmas, I bought way too much stuff that I have 0 interest in, but it was a good deal...

    You just described... my house perfectly... I read your post to my wife and she burst out laughing... :)

    Our kids are 8, 5, and 3, and we are in exactly the same position.

    2013 and 2012 were better IMO

    There are some impressive part counts but overall the pirate ship and simpsons house are pretty mediocre sets.

    Lego seem to be putting out silly part counts on themes which arnt really tried and tested.

    Shame they never did a 2700 piece helms deep :(

    I said that at launch of Helm's Deep.

    I never did build it, but I'd build a 2,700 part count version in a heartbeat. The set that they did release, while nice, is too "kiddie" for my personal taste.
