If anyone in HK or China can pick up #66497 for me, or if anyone is going there and sees them and would pick it up, I would love to have this set. Please PM me with info if you are willing to try to get it. Thank you in advance.

What's the appeal to this set, is it because they are all in one Christmas box? Any idea how much it costs?

@Margot For me a couple of things, I have a couple of sets from other countries and find them interesting, aside from that it's the animals with the Christmas theme. I don't have any idea of the price, and it may prove cost prohibitive. If so I won't be too bummed. But I have pretty much all the friends sets so I'd like to have this one as well.

Do you have any idea what stores would have it? I have coworkers going to China and Hong Kong everyday, but they usually go shopping for cheap knock off stuff and not Lego. :-)

No, but maybe @Huw could tell us. Maybe I need to check with my son to see if he has contacts there. Not sure how he would feel about asking them to look for them. I'm confident he wouldn't tell them it's for his Mom.

@margot Sent son a message. If he has contacts that are willing to get them are you interested in having either that or #10250?

Probably not much use to you: it was seen on the Chinese 'eBay', Taobao: http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=a1z10.5.w4002-2266076650.26.D63i19&id=36326192505

I would love a #10250, I never thought about trying to get one before. Would they have to ship the sets over? I should be able to get someone to just bring them back if I can send them in the right direction. At least on the 10250 it mentions that they are in Carrefour in China, that should help. I will send the word out tomorrow and see if anyone wants to look for these sets.

If I read the page correctly, it is a combo 9 poly pact 41017 - 41025. Unless you want to collect the box, it should be easily do it yourself.

^^^$220 yuan is about $36 dollars so that's not bad.
  • JeffHJeffH Member Posts: 173
10250 is just 6914 plus about 40 pieces for the gate. The only piece that you have to get from Lego is the round piece which costs about $2.25 if I remember correctly and the rest are from my parts reserve. You can get the instruction on line.

    ^Interesting, thanks!

If you want to get 10250 from China, Taobao is the cheapest place for 10250. If you get from the store, it costs about 350 yuan last time I check. The problem is to get it here as the box seems pretty big (15" x 10" x 3") and if you want good condition, carry on is a must so it is a big favour to ask.
  • margotmargot Member Posts: 2,308
We fly the planes so carry on is not a problem. :-) But $57 for that set is not worth it to me, whoa...

^^ I brought 10250 back from my exchange year, and smushed the box in my suitcase (I thought it was well packed, even bought a hardcase for it... well, and other stuff, but I guess not). It is a rather large box, took up a quarter of the case! In hindsight, I would have opened the set (rather than try to keep it sealed) and flat-packed the box.

It's rather cool, though. The box, I mean. Has a plastic tray inside, and a flap opening.

(Oh, I got mine from Toys R Us... watched it for months... was at 399 RMB and then one day it was 299, so I picked it up :) )

Like @AFFOL_Shellz_Bellz, I have an interest in collecting these sets which are only available outside the U.S., or have interesting variant packaging. The #10250 set routinely sells for $75 on eBay - selling from Taiwan or Hong Kong. I took a chance on one. I asked for good care to be taken on the shipping, and was assured it would. It arrived, being shipped in essentially a thin, shirt box, and was badly beaten. Not happy.

Anyway, if someone is able to get one of these to my doorstep, in excellent, sealed condition, for $75-$80, I would be thrilled.

@AFFOL_Shellz_Bellz, I have someone on the hunt for you tomorrow in HK. Fingers crossed.

    @margot Thank you! You're a gem!

Read the email wrong, he's going to be there next weds. Which is good because now I have the info to send him searching for Marina Bay Sands as well. :-)

I haven't heard anything from my son's friend.
  • margotmargot Member Posts: 2,308
Well I got the 411 from @ChanMcL on where to shop, and when I passed it on to my friend he had already done some research so he seems well prepped for the hunt!
  • ChanMcLChanMcL Member Posts: 1,224
Theres also a lot more shops in Hong Kong that sells LEGO, but most of them are probably more expensive than In's Point.
  • Russell844Russell844 Member Posts: 2,482
Is it too late to jump on the bandwagon for the Friends Animal Christmas or Marina Bay Sands?
  • margotmargot Member Posts: 2,308
@Russell844, I'm only getting one Friends and if I'm lucky 2 Marina Bays. I can't ask my coworker to get any more than that.
I have another friend trying to work the Singapore angle- he's on the waiting list at the Marina Bay Sands gift shop to get one. If I come upon an extra I will let you know...
  • Russell844Russell844 Member Posts: 2,482
Thanks @margot! It was not meant to be directed specifically at you, but anyone who can possibly help. :)
  • AFFOL_Shellz_BellzAFFOL_Shellz_Bellz Member Posts: 1,263
@Russell844 I don't have any idea yet whether I have anyone to get anything for me.
  • margotmargot Member Posts: 2,308
My friend got the Friends set no problem.!!!

However the MBS is another thing. Only one store has it and they want $167 for it. Going to pass.
  • AFFOL_Shellz_BellzAFFOL_Shellz_Bellz Member Posts: 1,263
    Yes, that is really outrageous!
  • margotmargot Member Posts: 2,308
Actually after checking the ebay prices I told him to pick it up for me. I can always sell it later if I find some at a reasonable price. I have a plan to buy some from S@H in Korea.
  • AFFOL_Shellz_BellzAFFOL_Shellz_Bellz Member Posts: 1,263
Can you let me know how much they are going to be?
  • margotmargot Member Posts: 2,308
Yes, when I get the info from my coworker I will let you know. I told him it was retailing for around $36 and he didn't say it was any more than that so that's my best estimate for now.

  • margotmargot Member Posts: 2,308
It was $27. I will pm you when I get a shipping cost.
  • AFFOL_Shellz_BellzAFFOL_Shellz_Bellz Member Posts: 1,263
Thanks! That's a fair price, don't you think?
  • margotmargot Member Posts: 2,308
I think that's a great price. $3 per animal pack. I think I'm going to drive into work and retrieve it today. It should be sitting in my locker along with the MBS set.
  • margotmargot Member Posts: 2,308
In hand! Smaller than I expected but very cute.

The problem with this arrangement is that it must be shipped to South Korean address. I knew that my coworker told me taobao has that service to buy it there and ship it out but I felt too much trouble and there could be a lot of transit issue.
  • margotmargot Member Posts: 2,308
I had plans to ship to a Marriott where coworkers stay. Marriott said no problem .
  • jadedancjadedanc Member Posts: 1,302
Where do you find these amazing sets @margot lol? I love the idea too of having sets from other countries but haven't found a way to get any (other than the auctions). Thankfully my husband starts his new job tomorrow so my Lego budget can go from zilch to maybe grab these or others soon :)
  • JeffHJeffH Member Posts: 173
    ^^That is a good one. ;)
  • JeffHJeffH Member Posts: 173
Looks like the MBS is out of stock at S@H Korea, that thing is expansive for about $75. Good news is that they still have 10197 and 10230 in stock, limit 2. 10229 is only temporarily out of stock. I remembered vividly back in Jan, 2010 S@H Korea had loads of 10189 in stock but I had no means to buy them. :(
  • margotmargot Member Posts: 2,308
Yeah, it's been "temporarily out of stock" for weeks.
  • AFFOL_Shellz_BellzAFFOL_Shellz_Bellz Member Posts: 1,263
I've decided not to open the #66497 and will display it in box. @Margot If you do get the #21021 please keep me in mind.
  • margotmargot Member Posts: 2,308
#21021 is not even showing up on the Korean s@h site anymore! I'm guessing it's done.

    @margot : ( Guess we can't have it all! : )
