(US) WANTED: Fire Brigade Used or NISB - For building purposes

samiam391samiam391 Member Posts: 4,492
Hi Everyone,

I realize that the Fire Brigade is freshly retired, however this is not for re-sale purposes.

Having been recently hooked on the modulars, I'm looking for one to build to add to my growing modular city.

If anyone has one, sealed or used, please shoot me a PM and I'm sure we can work something out.

Happy Holidays!

Thanks,
Samuel

    They are? Yikes...

They weren't a day or two ago... or whenever the last time I checked was...

Shoot, if that is the case, buy it there while you have the chance! :)

Just checked, says sold out to me... are you on the US site?
  • margotmargot Member Posts: 2,308
Ah, it appears to be a problem with their mobile site. Shows in stock but won't let you complete the purchase.

I can't believe a Bricksetter actually wanting a Fire Brigade is without one, I really can't. How long has it been rumoured to be EOL'd. That's what got me into into Mods in the first place ooooooh, two and half years ago?

Hoping you find one though Sam. Why did you have to wake up the morning after EOL deciding you needed one?
  • LegoFanTexasLegoFanTexas Member Posts: 8,404
^ Not just any random bricksetter (no offense to anyone else), but Sam of all people, who is a long time regular, who I've done trades with....

...who should frankly have known better. ;)

    But we're all human...

I offered him one, but probably not a price he'll be happy with. Cheaper than Bricklink by a little bit, but frankly, these are only going up from here...

Offer him one at retail and I'll give you a 'like'.

Its christmas and there's a valued bricksetter in need....

I had a look at bricklink as I'd have happily shipped mine to samiam for RRP but was worried that the shipping would make it cost more than its available for locally on bricklink. Indeed thats the case. New, in the US it was $188 so LFT's offer being below that seems like a very good deal to me, given RRP was $150.

Are they still in stock at any of the Lego stores?

There are none in my local Lego store, calling a few Lego stores might be a good idea as they will ship it out to you.
    Hope you find it. :-)

    That's how it works though.

Not really a fair comment to make. Some of you are here because you build, some collect and some buy to sell. Some of us, myself included do a mixture and use Lego to find other things in life. LFT (i believe) is in the latter group and made what I'd perceive to be a fair offer to Samuel on a set no longer available. I like Sam, he has done me a couple of excellent deals in the past and I hope someone is able to come through for him on a FB...

Actually, it's fair for me to perceive it as sad. For @LFT to describe @samiam391 as a loyal bricketter and then attempt to profit on him is simply that: sad. It's simple that where there is an opportunity to make a buck, LFT will be, even at the expense of "a long time regular, who I've done trades with." I find that very, very sad indeed, especially with the considerable goodwill from the other contingent on Brickset.

@samiam391 - I'm more than happy to order one from UK S&H and send via the mail, but I suspect it would be more expensive than in the US.

  • cheshirecatcheshirecat Member Posts: 5,331
But as the cheapest new, sealed on bricklink in the US is $188 and @LFT said he offered it cheaper than that then I don't think @LFT has looked to profit too much.

How much has @samiam391 profited on trades to @LFT and other BL members? Why can @LFT not profit back? Especially if he is offering it cheaper than elsewhere.

    Why so much hate?

If LFT was so concerned with profit he'd just hold onto the sets he has and sell them when they increase even more. Instead he is offering up a recently retired set for a little over MSRP.

Just curious, but how far below Bricklink's lowest price does it have to be before it becomes "not sad"?

Should I just send it to him for free?
  • BrickarmorBrickarmor Member Posts: 1,258
I'll add a story, for comparison's sake. I wanted #10210 this year. I asked for trades. Someone offered to trade me their sealed set for a new #42009. Needless to say, I agreed and sent them a $50 BL coupon as a token of immense gratitude. They made a profit, got a set they wanted, and a big box of new parts; and I got my ship. And there is not a bit of sadness anywhere in that whole interaction. It would have been absurd for them to trade based on what they paid for their set compared to its current worth, though in all cases it is up to the discretion of the trading parties.

@LegoFanTexas Actually, I was thinking. You have seen the jambalaya box that gets sent around. You load up a Texas sized pallet of your stock, send it to me, I take out what I want and send it along to the next person :)
  • PhoneboothPhonebooth Member Posts: 1,430
@LFT - even at RRP you would be making a profit, since you never buy at RRP.

^ How about you tell us how much you make at work and then we can tell you that you make too much and need to take a pay cut.

When I checked my post and saw it blown up with posts I was hoping to see a lot of people offering me free fire brigades, not people debating! ;o)

Hopefully I can clear everything up and get this thread back on track.

Yes, I guess you could really call me a bit of an idiot, it's rightfully deserved. I'm more of a minifigure person though, and didn't really appreciate the modulars until a few months ago. When I stuck the PC and TH together, something clicked (literally), and I desired the rest of the series. I recently attained several of them in a large bulk for a ridiculously low price (eBay find), with the exclusion of the FB. My budget was pretty swept, and I stick pretty fiercely with it.

I've finally freed up some funds to purchase the FB, and at the same time it is finally retiring (the world ends tomorrow then right?). I was hoping to sweep a used one someone wasn't wanting, or perhaps a NIB one that someone didn't want. If I have to hunt eBay and BL, I'm fine with that. I just wanted to put a side post here on Brickset too, as a "just in case".

^ Not just any random bricksetter (no offense to anyone else), but Sam of all people, who is a long time regular, who I've done trades with....

...who should frankly have known better. ;)

    But we're all human...

I'm sure my comments above explain this away too. Just didn't have the budget at the current place and time... Now I might have to dish out a little more to purchase one, which is fine. I make, keep, and maintain a firm LEGO budget.

For those calling out @LegoFanTexas for attempting to make a profit, thanks for the defense, but truthfully I have no problem with it.

I do the same with SDCC/NYCC and other exclusive minifigures. It's just a way of business, and there is nothing wrong with it.

I usually do cut a break for bricksetters because I like to help complete people's collections, but at the same time I can understand wanting to make a small margin of profit. Personally, it helps fund my hobby.

Exactly, as I said above. Perfectly summed up. I do not see anything wrong with LFT attempting to make a profit here. :o)

That being said, the price that LFT offered is actually, in my opinion, not below the prices on BL. It's a bit skewed because of the condition of the set, which is not necessarily NIB (depending on your definition)

It's a very fair price to ask, however there are other, cheaper, options available to me. I do appreciate the offer though.

So, to get this thread back on track.... I've declined LFT's offer... does anyone else have one?

Or perhaps by this time I should just go ahead and move to eBay or BL :o)

Just checked US ebay and cant believe what people are asking for FB already.

The LFT offer if under the lowest bricklink price of $188 seems like a fair deal in comparison

:) I own about 30 FB that were purchased at RRP...

    Never say never...
  • mathewmathew Member Posts: 2,099
I wouldn't fret about it. There's always the initial surge after a big set retires and then prices settle back down. I remember LFT harping that the Imperial Flagship was going to hit $500 by Christmas 2012. It's just now hitting $400.
  • LegoFanTexasLegoFanTexas Member Posts: 8,404
^ There is some truth to that...

IF went up, then down, then up, now it is back down...

Most large set prices are down somewhat, the whole market is soft in general, look at IS, it hasn't done what I thought it would either, neither did DA.

Too many resellers, too much supply, too many new sets coming out at great deals sucks out the demand for a lot of the aftermarket stuff.

Now I take the other approach, I don't think we'll see FB hit $300 in the next year. It will be pushing it to reach $250 on BL.

@samiam391 just alerted me to this thread, asking me to close it.

Sam: I can sell you one for MSRP + my shipping cost. Will that do?

I can offer the same as well (rrp) for a sealed set. I live in Illinois so the shipping to KY may be cheaper.
