Should I hold on to #40083? I have no use for it, so I'm thinking of selling it (first time ever selling LEGO).

#50011 & #50003 seem to be doing very well, seen some sell for over $150.

After getting some for fellow Brickseters, I also got myself a few but I wonder how they will do long term (I'll be getting rid of mine now though), being that the Lego games were mostly a flop.

Some positives are that these 2 were only released in what appears to be very limited numbers & limited locations plus Batman & LOTR have cult like followings. I'm sure if these were standard construction sets that the sky would be the limit, but being games I'm not so sure.

My guess is it will still be going for 15-20 dollars in the next few years.
I say this only because that is what the 2011 holiday sets are going for now (though this is a vehicle and not a room scene)

Keep seeing the first wave of Chima sets with strong discounts all over the place. I keep ignoring them. Just wondering what everyone's general thoughts are on these?

Incredible increase in such a short time. When were the sets released?

@prevere - I have not dabbled too much in Chima. They are a bit too out there for me, but I did pick up a few #70006 Cragger's Command Ship at the last Kmart 50% clearance sale. I'm into the sets at $34 each, I had no desire to hold them long term, but thought I could flip them close to RRP at Christmas when Lego became a little more scare in store. So far, I've had no bites at 15% under RRP. At this point the jury is out, but I will not be buying any for future resale.

My kids have zero interest in Chima and I have never read anywhere to get a feeling of some aftermarket potential.

I think Ninjago returning next year will further drive home the point that while Chima was an admittedly interesting experiment, it didn't really catch on fire.

There's a reason they don't just throw freebie Star Wars sets into shipping boxes like they did with all the Speedorz this summer.
  • starwarfan77starwarfan77 Member Posts: 341
of course right. it was not really #10227 that went on 50% it was the way for them to clear inventory :P

I think everyone else is ignoring them too...

It may well be for good reason, or it might surprise.

I've been picking up 5 of this and 10 of that when I find them for more than 30% off. Generally most sets are worth having 5 to 10 of at 30+% off.

Doesn't mean I want 100 of them, but a few never hurt. Well... Home One not counting. :)

I said from the start that B-Wing was an interesting choice...

It is an obscure ship from ROTJ that never did anything, never fired a laser, never blew anything up. It appeared for, what, about 8 seconds of screen time?

The A-Wing would have made a better choice, an A-Wing took down the SSD, so it actually did something.

How about a UCS TIE Fighter, that would make ten times more sense.

Has anyone being stocking up on Friends sets? I see some good increases in price on not only #41015 Dolphin Cruiser, but in sets like #3188 Heartlake Vet and #3189 Heartlake Stables. I know Friends doesn't get a lot of discussion on this board, so I haven't even been aware when some of the sets EOL.

Considering all of the Chima sales and LEGO itself discounting them, I would be surprised if this is gangbusters when it is gone..
LEGO should not have tried to make lightning strike twice.

The only Chima sets I have are those that were handed out as bribes by TLG to try and generate interest. Extremely weird theme...

@Basta yeah you sent me two, one for myself and the other was for a fellow collector. He ended up not paying for his set so I listed it on ebay, I was shocked how much it went for, and happy my copy didn't end up costing anything. So thanks! My advice would be to hold on to at least one to see what happens.
  • gmpirategmpirate Member Posts: 1,654
I'm still not a believer in Chima, but remember when Ninjago red boxes were clearanced at 50% off everywhere. There were stacks and stacks of them at Walmart. Some were discounted on Amazon forever. I picked up a bunch at 75% off at a Lego outlet. I'm waiting for the cartoon to start and then I figure I will start unloading my red and green boxes :)

^ That I don't quite understand. I can get behind giving something not tied to a particular date, but just giving something like that for no reason at all? Doesn't that contradict you own argument on being grateful what you've worked hard to attain? If they didn't have to do anything to attain it, then how can they be truly grateful?

Anyway, I don't want to drum this up more than I already have, which I just did anyway by posting this, but I had to comment on that one.

Something tells me that you only have black and white bricks in your Lego collection TheLoneTensor. You should get some gray ones :)

I was at B&N this evening and was looking at the Arcitecture Series and everything looked pretty well stocked except for a set that only had two left... #21019 The Eiffel Tower. I didnt think it was supposed to be out till next year. I didnt see any posted on ebay either. I think i'm going back in the morning and will use my 25% coupon on it.

Amazon just got Helm's Deep back in stock. Full Retail price, but I thought this one was supposed to be gone.

Inventory says they have over a thousand in stock. If so, ouch, that will be here for awhile then.

Yet they have been out of stock on the Millennium Falcon along with several other high profile sets this whole Holiday shopping season. Kind of odd.

MF is a high demand set that will do well once it retires, so long as you get it at some kind of discount (since so many people have bought it as such, you're competing with them)

Any time I can get a copy for $100 or less, I pickup a few more.

The only downside... it may not retire for another two years, like FB. Grr... But it really is a nice set.

Time to update the modulars table. days on the market, the FB outlived CC and GG combined. On a speculative note: What are the odds that the modulars will be discontinued in the same order as they where released?

If numbers don't lie, now is the time to stock up on your GE.

Also look at the DS pushing over 2000 days on the market. It is time for that set to go.

I think the more unique buildings will do well, as opposed to the "everyone gets a car or beauty shop" type sets. I just sold an Olivia's Tree House for over $40. So I'm convinced there's some potential in the line.

^ spot on. the shops and cars and mini-sets in the $10-15 range seem likely to just be variants on the same theme. the Tree House, besides being more unique, was also just a really clever and well designed set, and came at a fantastic price point. The Dolphin Cruiser would seem to be a no brainer at some point. What I'm curious about are the houses and bigger sets. We know we will continue to see new house style sets in each new wave, so the question remains will the older ones still be unique enough to be in demand (similar to Creator Houses) at a markup, or will people just happily by the current ones and not care much about collecting the older ones - much like City police/fire stations? Time will tell I suppose
