Man, this is so true! I would give this 100 thumbs up if I could. With kids your time goes right out the window. The big sets are always cool, but if I don't do small builds, I don't get to build at all. There should be a support group for AFOL's with kids.

I think it was amazing watching my daughter build her first set at Christmas last year and seeing her struggle with following the directions and figuring it out. Now..just one year later she yells at me if I try and help her and we race to build sets. It all started with little poly bags and now she is building modulars with me. Yet another reason why i'm happy we have LEGO in our lives.

+1000. These days I'm much more excited about the new Hobbit sets than I am the Modulars. I don't know if all kids are as demanding as my 14 month old or not, but holy Christ... free time is a luxury I just don't have anymore. I knocked out two Christmas polys last night and considered it an accomplishment. Display space is also at a premium these days and I don't see that problem getting any better short of buying a new house. Anyways... Where is the sign up for this AFOL with Kids Support Group?

True. I'm guessing most people on here have more disposable income than I do. Myself, I have to be more selective as I have a limited budget. That means declining some great sale items.

LOL. It does get easier. Yours is at a really demanding age. Terrible 2s hit at about 13 months. Whereas right at 2 is actually really nice. 4 is the worst ... at least in terms of the elementary years. I haven't experienced teenagers yet.. :-)

These are all magical years that will go by fast. Enjoy the time with them. LEGO definitely helps in the creating a stronger bond, until they find something else or not. Personally, I am in the pre-teen phase with my own daughter who still loves LEGO.

I had documented all of the lower prices in an email yesterday and sent it off. They promptly replied with a refund, but for the wrong amount (they didn't count the multiple quantities). So I replied to their support email, and they answered to call for further assistance. After getting through a front line rep that couldn't understand the concept of "price history" vs. "current price", I finally got to a supervisor. He said they can't price match Cyber Monday, and would not fix my refund. He did say however that he would put some override in the system to leave the apparently erroneous refund in place and not remove it. So at least I didn't lose ground, and the prices were great to begin with so I'm not terribly upset by it. But its not really the great customer service that they are striving for. I think I will fill out that survey...

Frankly, I don't consider money spent on most LEGO to be "disposable"...

If you buy at or under RRP, for most sets, once they are a year or two post EOL, you can get your money back, even used.

10215 hasn't done great, but if you bought it when it was endlessly on sale for $69, you should be able to sell it used today for about $70.

So you're really just place-holding the money, not really spending it. If you're ok to cycle your collection, you can keep using the same funds over and over.

That's nuts, because they are doing that for me...

They just won't match anything beyond 7 days anymore, but I received several more credits today from orders placed over the past week based on prices on Monday.

Go figure...

You got a strange one, to be sure...

Frankly, the price match should be for the length of the return policy, or at least longer than 7 days, but what do I know? :)

By disposable I mean that I don't care about keeping the set intact for future resale. My four year old son does not build by instructions yet. He enjoys building but if I give him a complete set he will mix it up with the rest of his Lego.

That is a fair point... Some cheaper sets, some creator sets, I've allowed my kids to just take them apart and put the parts in their collections.

The parts still have value, but not as much as they would have being in a "set".

The expensive stuff like Tower Bridge and Black Pearl will never come apart of course... however, as I think about it, that rather defeats the point of those sets, doesn't it?

TB might actually have a good part collection for MOCs, BP as well.

In some ways it is a shame they become worth so much, otherwise it would be tempting to just take them apart and give them to the kids.

I really have to laugh at this.

Four was one of THE worst ages I have dealt with. (Outside of dealing with one highly, highly colicky baby for months and months and months on end. ) Luckily, only one of mine went through such difficult 4s.

2s were wonderful for two of mine.

You all have made me feel better -- misery (or in this case bleary-eyed new dad joy) loves company. My little baby girl is still only 7 months old and we're lucky if we get her to sleep through the night with bedtime starting around 9 and I'm on call for middle of the night wakeups so i have to get to bed early if i want to get any semblance of sleep. throw in a job that often has me getting him at 7 or 8 and there's not much time for any lego these days . . .

But it will all come back in spades when she is old enough to enjoy the lego with me!!! I've already built up a nice little Castle collection for her (both my old castle stuff and some of the newer stuff from the last few years, still in boxes and sealed) and of course when she is even older, a fantastic modular collection with numerous city vehicles. LOTR and Star Wars is for daddy but I would be more than happy to share :).

Back to Amazon - so do we think we have seen the best pricing of the season, or are more sales to come?

So sad the awesome Walmart and Target sale from last year didn't happen again this year. Got my copy of SSDs and DSs for $280 each and other big sets at similar discounts. I just couldn't get in the mood to buy anything this season despite the plethora of deals.

We didn't have the huge discounts on exclusive sets this year, but IMHO the deals this year have been far better than last year...much deeper cuts across a much broader range of sets. I'm not sure that I'm going to have much left to spend on after-christmas sales at this point.

I've had the exact same conversation with my wife. It's funny though because she'll find a sale on Lego when she's out shopping and spend a bunch of money without hesitating.

Based on historial pricing data, it will be a lul for a week or so then a few more deals but normally by now the wave would have crested.
But this isnt a normal year either.

There's no way it's over. Don't forget, with Thanksgiving so late this year, there's a week lost in the shopping season. Given the distilled sales window, I think we're in for 2 or 3 more sessions like we've had this past week amongst the retailers. God help our wallets!

The funny thing is the profit from Lego that I sell goes to paying school tuition or groceries or something important. It's as if she needs to see the money.

Yes, my son likes this and the mech dragon. I personally think thise one looks cooler, and I like the new female minifig. ;-) I figure at a minimum my son will be looking to buy this next year, and this will at least give him a discount if he buys from my stash. Christmas is already used up with Galaxy Squad (his large want), and then I need to decide what Lego to give him for his bday. I'm debating between Ninjago, Castle and City.
