^ prices for these sets are the lowest i have seen.. of course we can always go lower.....

this is without the ebates and redcard etc combination... which can add another 5+5=10% of savings.

After maintaining incredible buying discipline all day Monday I finally broke down on this deal

~45% off on sail barge, pirate ship, and constitution sucked me in

All of my self control yesterday didn't help this morning, finally pulled the trigger on the Lion Chi Temple...$67 was too good to pass up!
  • LegoFanTexasLegoFanTexas Member Posts: 8,404
Yea, $67 is almost half price... hard to go wrong at that price, and frankly I think it is a nice looking temple.

~45% off on Sail Barge and Pirate Ship? Those are no-brainers.

Black gate is marked 20% down on Target, so with the 20% off that brings it to 37% off, which is not too bad. (Can you imagine a time where 37% off was not good enough...but with the deals lately I think I will hold out longer).

I can't take much more of this temptation. Bag ends for $44, Pirate ships for $55, wow.

Free shipping doesn't seem to be working without a redcard
  • Pacific493Pacific493 Member Posts: 379
It's working selectively. About 1/2 of the sets that I ordered qualified for free shipping and the other 1/2 didn't.

Curious, why do you label this wise? I understand it's possible that sales will be better, but I'll be really surprised if we get better sales than we have been seeing. Plus, give than you have a return policy "insurance" to cushion you in case things do go lower, I would label waiting as a risky move, not wise.

Sorry, Target. Out of money, credit or otherwise. See you Dec 26.
  • scotty12scotty12 Member Posts: 836
I simply look at it like this. In the years past I've been able to find most of my $100 sets on clearance at WM/Targets for 1/2price. That's recently changed with they've both started clearancing stuff at 30%..$99 sets goto $69 (Vampire Castle/Black Pearl) .and it doesn't last long in-stores. If I can get those type of sets for almost or nearly 50% off...I'll get one...or two. I'm not gonna complain over saving $5-8 over the chance of not getting one at all.
    For example:
LORT Pirate Ambush $99 at WM even 50% off after X-Mas = $49...Target is $55

For many of us, the last two years we have only generally found 30%. Three years ago I found everything I wanted at 50%, but not the last two years.
If you can find 50% after Christmas, then I can see why you might wait.

Lego as someone had mentioned before it's like a plastic crack. Having said that if one can resist the temptation then " it's wise and patient" not a lot of human can do that No?

Talking strictly from pricing point why are all these retailers stuffing these discounts? It surely looks like people aren't spending enough and they seem to have lot more inventory. Look @ Walmart pricing now .. Which is not much discount after they burned through the inventory. So, target is late to the party and it so seems that they will have to discount more to move their inventory no? Otherwise why back to back sale?

You are wise and patient to hold out

I still have a Target coupon from the Black Friday mailer its $15 off any $150 or more purchase. Good in store only and expires 12/15/13. I wonder if i can get it to stack in the store?. I'm at work today otherwise I certainly would have taken a shot at it this morning.

NOTE - if you do it online, and you don't bank with a major bank, you'll have to wait a few days before you can "complete" your application.

Target does one of two things to authenticate that you are attaching it to your own bank account:
1.) Allows you to login using your bank's online banking login information (Usually bigger banks)
2.) ACH's a couple trial deposits that you'll have to verify on their site.

If you bank with a smaller bank, it'll take 2-3 days for the trial deposits to hit your account, so you won't get the card number for online use instantly.

In-store, they have your check, so you get your account details on the spot, and you can use it in-store and online.

After multiple orders online (I kept telling myself I could stop anytime I wanted), I used the printed 20% in-store coupon from Black Friday on the 3 Galaxy Squad sets marked 50% off (70704, 70705, & 70708). I can stop any time I want.

Yea, I keep telling myself that, but I just bought some more stuff tonight...

There remain deals on Target that are worth buying, stuff that is going out now that they still have on sale, and frankly, I'm shocked to see still in stock.

My bank is a larger regional bank so I was well on my way to signing up when the computer I was using would not let me put in my phone number for my added security for the site. There was a timer and it ran out and I was forced to have my application reviewed manually. Sigh. Oh well. I took it as a sign to stop spending money :)

Due to shipping and tax I do not see these being much better than LEGO deals at Amazon.com the past weekend.
I get that they are good deals, especially if you missed cyber Monday deals at Amazon, do not happen to pay sales tax in your state, and have the red card, but I do not feel a knee jerk reaction to getting another card (ie temptation to spend) to save 12-15 dollars.
That and I have had my fill from Amazon and TRU sales this past week (not to mention yoyo.com) I have to cry uncle at this Target sale as tempting as it is.

Having missed a lot of the Amazon deals, I'm glad I could get the Target ones, which in some cases (Lion Chi Temple, for example) were better than Amazon. I also would rather, if need be, return the shipped item to a store than ship it back. Just personal preference.

Yes, my wife reminds me of that all the time...

However, do keep in mind that most of my purchases are for resale, so that rules doesn't really apply.

Every thousand dollars spent saves $50, which for sure adds up over time.

I hate credit cards also...I have my bank/visa card, Target debit card, and a fuel card for work...that's it....I don't like the bills and all the other junk & hoops that come along with credit cards. Never thought I'd get a Target card but there's no real disadvantage of having one. It was either get Target card or pay cash...or use my other credit/debit card for the exact same purpose.

Is it about the deals, credit card or where your getting the deals?? Me personally...I like knowing I can run into Target knowing I can return something. Every Lego I've ever received from Amazon looks like I just bought it from a 2nd hand/thrift shop.....that's recovering from a tornado. Everything else from Amazon has been fine....but LEGO...0 for 6....and 0 for 6 on returns. The last was a VW Camper for my nephews birthday. I had family ask if I had dragged it behind the car first before wrapping it.

^ i don't get that. Every set I have ever received from Amazon (over 10 the last few days alone) has came to me in pristine shape. Most of the time it is packed better than the stuff I get from [email protected]

I know it happens though. I guess I've just been very lucky so far.
  • scotty12scotty12 Member Posts: 836
And I know it's not local carriers either.....well....sort of...they might be dropping the box several times on it's side and then ripping it or they think something seems 'fishy' with the box and they call the Police canine unit in and he chews on it for awhile.....but I've order large $100+sets and cheap $25+ sets and there's no packing material. I got 2 $149.99 sets packed together with a total of 2 air bubbles for packing...that's it....and that's happened twice now too.
I think it's just my bad luck....or there's a box at the bottom of the agreement that says "check this box for new, perfectly shipped boxes.....otherwise they'll show up pretty crappy"
