It is nonsense to suggest that TLG would invest time and effort to create a giveaway poly without hoping it would generate a big enough sale to make them a profit. They alone decide on the purchase threshold you need to meet so it's reasonable - in my opinion - to assume that the threshold is set at a point where they are assured of a big enough profit to justify including the giveaway.

Talking about assumptions you seem to be making quite a lot about my knowledge PD.
So many posts on here are utter tripe because they are full of:
"It is clear that", when what they mean is "I think"
"TLG are rubbish because", when what they mean is "I disagree with this"
    etc, etc
In which case you did reply to be argumentative because, by your own admission, your very own internal translator already told you what I was saying. You just wanted to argue semantics.

I remember the day when "LEGO Rules!" was an unchallenged exclamation, not the start of a finely printed list.

Its only a day now till we are travelling to STEAM for plenty of good times, great LEGO, wonderful crack and even a few cheeky drinks.

Oh, my. How that sounds to American ears...

This weekend, made two separate purchases at a LBR store, and got two VW Campers...with my VIP account. Still odd to include it on [email protected] order, then not send it, and no one to expect complaints....
  • princedravenprincedraven Essex, UKMember Posts: 3,768
Lego have an entire Customer Services team to take those complaints.
And they can assist you in reading the terms and conditions of the promotion if required.

Anyone think as poly's become more popular they will become less available and the guidelines more strict? I placed an order just this morning for 2 poly's and it got me thinking; I'm not that into the whole thing with poly's but something keeps pulling me in! Alas, the magical powers of TLG works in every which way...

However it appears that your argument that they had some left over at the end of the month and therefore didn't handle the promo well is flawed.
It is much better that they stick to the rules and everyone who is entitled to one gets one and they end up with some left over, than dishing them out to all and sundry, ignoring the rules and running out half way through the month, and thus letting down all the people in the second half of the month who would be entitled to one.

I've never known them to run out "halfway through the month", and my heart doesn't bleed for those who wait until the last minute, knowing that the offer is good only as long as supplies last. Earlier in this thread there is some PR spin about how extremely limited the polybag was, how they would all be given out, blah blah blah, and now that didn't seem to have panned out.

Saw a couple buy $600 worth of Lego and be given one polybag. They weren't too happy about it. They made them choose between the Volkswagen and the Clone Trooper Lieutenant! Helluva job they're doing, huh? Fact is they didn't handle the promo well. They chose to err on the side of stinginess rather than generosity. And a lot of people didn't like it.

I wanted multiples of these to give as gifts, and was even willing to spend separate increments of $75 to get them. But they didn't want my money, and I made sure they didn't get my money either since they were more interested in making sure I got just one promo per household per lifetime. And now the promo is over, and they have "lots" left over.

^I believe that they ran out online in the US and UK so I doubt they have that many left in the stores. They probably just need to rebalance the supply now theres free shipping all year round.

This has happened multiple times in Stratford in London.
Also as @cheshirecat states, they ran out online before the end of the promotion.
And as for the heart not bleeding comment, why are you assuming that every person entitled to this promo is a Brickset reader or similar??
Most customers in a Lego store do not know anything about promotions until they are in the store, you saying that its their fault if they miss out by not going into the store until late in the month after you have taken your multiples for 'gifts'?

I do know where you are coming from with this, and in fact had a very similar experience myself, I think this is a slightly different argument as this isn't about getting 2 copies of something that says 1 per customer but more a case of bad customer service from the salesperson at the time. In my experience it appears that Lego HQ is trying to trying to reduce leakage, there have previously been a 'lot' of unaccounted for promo's just disappear. When you then counter in that a lot of the Lego store staff are quite young I think it is natural that they are sticking to what they are told.

I again question whether "lots" left over is factual, I would be surprised if they ran out online and had "lots" in store.

IIRC they ran out of the Christmas promo last year and one of the two from 2011 very early meaning many didn't get both.

I love the fact some people on here feel we should feel sorry for those that didn't get multiples yet not for those that might not get one at all if the promo runs out early.

^the store i was at this last weekend had a full case of VW campers behind the registers. I mean FULL... it was more than "lots," "a lot," or even "alot."

This past weekend the promotion was still on.
  • jasorjasor United StatesMember Posts: 839
Right....I went two separate times; one being the last day of the promo (to which I'm referring).

it was a fresh case, and I was on my way out of town late. They weren't getting rid of those by end of day.

You have your dates wrong, Monday was the last day of the promo.
  • jasorjasor United StatesMember Posts: 839
REGARDLESS, they werent going to get rid of a full case of VW's even through Monday. Good grief. That's the point. A new and high volume store is sitting there with a full bin of them. So..... "lots" is, indeed, factual.
  • princedravenprincedraven Essex, UKMember Posts: 3,768
Well if you can't get the date correct it is not surprising that I would question the validity of the facts...
Wasn't there a big event booked for Monday? Maybe they had them in for that?
  • jasorjasor United StatesMember Posts: 839
Ok...it was the last day of the promo -- MONDAY -- on my way out of town. I'm still off on what day it is...that's what holidays are for. Either way, it's silly to split hairs on the fact that it was a Sunday or a Monday. They weren't going to do a case worth of $75.00 individual purchases...

They had way too many. THUS, your "lots." If there is a question of validity, whelp...I cant help there, other than saying it's my word.

@princedraven - just thought I'd jump in here and point something out that you might be missing.

You have been called "argumentative" in this thread, and you brushed it off.

The fact is, you are, and you seem to not see it. You're finding points to argue about, even if they don't really pertain to the point at hand. Regardless of the day, he could be one or two days off, a case full of promo items at the end of the event is not going away in a day or even three.

Rather than accept that point, you argued semantics over it.

You have been coming across as combative here, you might not be aware of it, but I wanted to point it out to you in the event you didn't know.

@LegoFanTexas Thanks for that, but I'm afraid I couldn't care less what you think.
Why should I accept the point of someone who I know nothing of and can't even get the date right?
I am well aware of coming across combative this evening, some times its the only way people will actually listen.
But again thanks for your oh so helpful post, I will be sure to take it to heart.

Ahh, look, how sweet, you have some more nice 'likes' from your little cronies!

@ColoradoBricks Yeah I had to think of that same post...

Anyway, I got two VW Campers in the end, wonder what will happen to those that are left. Maybe there will be another VW camper promotion in a few months? Didn't TLG run more than one promo with TC-14?
  • princedravenprincedraven Essex, UKMember Posts: 3,768
^ Oh, no, I feel so bad, how will I sleep tonight...
    Jesus Christ, some people!!!

Anyway, promo over, thread should be closed to stop all these wingers and complainers.

I really should sleep before I start the long journey south to meet the gang. Can you believe @caperberry is making me have a drink on the way!? Very bad influence.

If we are going to start calling each other out for behaviour considered argumentative we are going to have lots of useless posts here.

Anyway the terms and conditions are there. I find the randomness unfair (Although Fairy Bricks has benefited) Either everyone should be able to get multiples or no one should. Maybe on a month long promotion you should be allowed a couple of orders so long as there is say a two week gap between them. The website should be fixed to reflect purchase limits.

Sleep required. Time awaits with the three dimensional people.

If you're referring to me, you're wrong on all counts. I never asked you or anyone else to "feel sorry" for me. That's ridiculous, and not my point. I didn't get multiples; I got the one per household per lifetime just like Lego wanted. And the promo did not run out early, but rather, there was extras left over.

I was in the LBR store in Des Peres for 5 hours Monday (waves @jasor) and I was the last customer of the night. The doors were already locked wheni was checking out. The store still had most of the case behind the counter full. Either way, if you got one then you should be grateful that you got one and all this stupid whining will just end up canceling future promos.

So stores having full cases is a way to say people should have been able to get more then one? Or is it to state that people who made numerous orders would not have put others in danger of not getting one? I don't get the point of saying "so and so store had cases of these when they were literally locking the door on the last day". I think this should be closed and we move on to the first Christmas set. I don't think you can get a pattern from just one release.
  • GoldchainsGoldchains Member Posts: 795
Who I really feel sorry for are the collectors who paid big money for the Clone Trooper Lieutenant when it was rare. If you get one promo, you get more, you get none, it's not going to stop anyone from buying Lego anyways. It's just a nice thing for Lego to do, and we should all be glad they even do it in the first place. They don't have to, you know.

These little extras are to cater to the small percentage of adults who buy/collect/sell Lego. The kids don't care. Most adults buying for their kids don't care.

I went into my local Lego store with birthday gift certificates to buy Jabba's Sail Barge. I got both promos. An older gentleman even came up to me when I was in line and asked who the set was for. I told him for me lol. He obviously didn't care about the promos.

We should be glad we get them at all, and they are increasing in number every year. I for one say thank you Lego, and keep up the good work.

I don't. They were not forced to pay crazy money for it. They wanted it right there and then when it was rare. They gambled and paid crazy prices for it thinking it may not be widely available and would go up in value. They lost that bet.

Are they? I let my kids have the Christmas promo from last year. One each.

Look at your profile pic (it's darling in person)! It was great meetin ya ;)

I agree...if you got one - yay. It's a headscratcher if it showed you got one in your bag at [email protected], and then....nothing, though. The fact that the rules are different in store, and online kinda stink for people that cant get to a store all the time. I understand the "huh" questions everyone mentions above (without the legal talk).

The price for these is going a bit crazy.

I had one in my BL store, priced at what I thought was a "probably not sell" price. And it sold, just it and nothing else in the order. Worked out at about 33% discount on my £50 order to get it.
  • DiggydoesDiggydoes Cologne/GermanyMember Posts: 1,079
So does this "one per household"rule now apply to all promos? Or was it indeed only due to licensing restrictions with VW?
  • CCCCCC UKMember Posts: 18,207
The rule has always been there, it has just not always been applied.

I think they are doing multiples of the Xmas promo set for multiple orders this year based on what others have said. I didn't bother with them this year, so cannot confirm it.
  • cheshirecatcheshirecat Member Posts: 5,332
And they weren't exactly strict with the VW polys - I think I ended up with about 6 of them mostly from online. I had one poly cancelled. I came away with the feeling that there was one jobsworth type person there sticking to the rules and everyone else was business as usual.
  • AleyditaAleydita BelgiumMember Posts: 834
I ended up with 5 campers too, 3 from mail orders and 2 from the store. Traded them all without issue though so I suspect many were not as lucky as some of us.
  • XefanXefan Member Posts: 1,149
Think I ended up with 4 or 5 too so not sure how widespread the refusals for seconds really were? I know a few complained but I think it was probably by far an absolute minority of second orders that had them cancelled?
  • joel4motionjoel4motion United KingdomMember Posts: 959
I got refused two orders with campers and two got through. I was looking for a few to implement an idea I had but managed to get a few on here from various people including @Aleydita so not overly fussed.
  • DiggydoesDiggydoes Cologne/GermanyMember Posts: 1,079
Well i´ve placed 6 orders back then and they cancelled all VW´s except one! The CS wasn´t helpful too! That´s why i´m asking how current Promos get treated!

    Except it wasn't...

I got two from four orders, I know of people who only got one from multiple orders and of those who got 4/5, one from each order.

I said earlier in the thread that I could live with it being one per household if it was enforced on every order but it wasn't unfortunately.
  • cheshirecatcheshirecat Member Posts: 5,332
Totally agree, consistency should be key. That said I try to always go into these things expecting not to get and then if I do thats a bonus. Of course if the freebie is critical to the purchase then thats not so easy.

    Cons
    Observer said:

Consistency is the one thing, the other is that in Germany these are the only ways to get hold of Polybags (unlike in the US where some can be found at TRU or the glorious newspaper Promos in the UK) that´s why it´s kinda annoying if you´re only able to get one of each since the polys are great trading-material!

Received today 2 orders including 2 x 40083 (1 x 40083 each order). I placed both orders on Saturday with a difference of 5 minutes.
  • legogregorslegogregors Member Posts: 402
Has anyone noticed a consistent trend for or against the one per household promo policy recently?

In January I placed two orders and only one received the ATV polybag so I thought they might have run out. I knew I was not getting it because it was not added to the cart which is fine.

In February I placed 4 orders latish and did not get the Piece of Resistance polybag added to any.

When delivered they added a large holographic Lego Movie Sticker that has a bar code in the first order and the second order seemed to have the polybag added to the cart after the order was placed and it arrived(No Sticker in the second order). Thanks,
  • KanohiKanohi Member Posts: 41
^ I placed two orders this month. Both had the poly, the second one towards the end of the month had the sticker thing...though I'm not really sure what it is?
  • dougtsdougts Oregon, USAMember Posts: 4,129
I placed a single order, which LEGO split into 5 shipments. Every shipment had the poly. This is in line with pretty much all of my previous experiences, other than the VW. I think that one was the exception to the norm.
  • KanohiKanohi Member Posts: 41
^ one of my two was split but only got the one poly. Was hoping for two though :)

Forgot to mention - my two orders placed in January, only one had the poly. I believe they ran out towards the end of the month as it wasn't on my invoice nor in my cart when I checked out.
