So this is a bit different than usual, Amazon is running a save 30% on any book deal up to a savings of $10 using the code : BOOKDEAL

    http://amzn.to/1bqBzUm

There's the terms and conditions. Right now though, they're also running sales on a bunch of LEGO books that have minifigs and bricks, like this Star Wars one :

    http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/1465408673/ref=nosim/water70e-20

The minifigure year by year book with 3 minifigs is a good choice as well at $20 pre-discount/$14 after discount.

How exactly do you do that? What's the time limit?

I did the same thing when a set i ordered dropped by $5 the day after I ordered it. I messaged amazon support and they told me they would refund the difference since it was within 7 days of my order. So... Time limit for adjustments must be one week.

Ps. I believe the price will auto adjust as long as the item was purchased directly from amazon and has not been shipped yet. That's usually a pretty small window though.

  • dr_tengdr_teng Member Posts: 101
The adjustments time limit is tricky but I'd agree it's within about 7 days. On some items CSRs will refuse to do it but around Black Friday I'm pretty sure management tells them to loosen up a bit.

Yeah that Gunship is no more for that price right now. My guess is it will go down again tomorrow.
Also #79003 Hobbit Unexpected gathering is now $48.99

Just look at the 2012 bear, the 2011 bear, etc... Amazon has done this promo for years.

I figure the bears are really worth about $10, give or take a few.

They are actually really nice bears, if you saw one in a store, $10 would be a good deal on one, but most retail stores would charge $20 for them.

Store inventories are up, sales are not rising as fast as expected...
  • mathewmathew Member Posts: 2,096
^ That's true for a lot of goods but I suspect Lego feels that they fall into the latter category:

"Other brands won't play that game—which is why stores won't cut prices of those goods as aggressively. If they do, the store eats the entire profit hit.

"That why certain items are excluded," said Edelman. "Those manufacturers feel their brand is strong enough that they don't need that discount to sell the product and they're not willing to pay the retailer to move it.""
  • mathewmathew Member Posts: 2,096
Just curious, why the obsession with the free Amazon bear? My kids have dozens of stuffed animals so I kind of doubt they would appreciate another. If it were a Pixar stuffed animal like Sully or Mike that might be different.

    @mathew.
    If a free stuffed toy.
And maybe you did not think of this, but many people can take those 'typical bears' and dump them into a goodwill or toys for tots bin so a kid can get a present.
Many children do not have the luxury of having more than one stuffed bear, or one bear at all.
Although it is kinda of silly when the bear is wearing a Amazon.com hat, but I do not think kids would complain

Here's some of the other books that're on sale and work with the BOOKDEAL thing I linked at the top of the page, these are all before the 30% off :

The LEGO Ideas Book for $12.49
LEGO Play Book: Ideas to Bring Your Bricks to Life for $12.49
LEGO Minifigure Year by Year: A Visual History for $20
    The LEGO Book for $17.78
LEGO Star Wars: The Yoda Chronicles for $9.49
The LEGO Technic Idea Book: Fantastic Contraptions for $13.81
The Cult of LEGO for $27.01
LEGO Minifigures: Character Encyclopedia for $9.49
LEGO Star Wars Character Encyclopedia for $9.49

There's probably some others I missed while looking around.

I was kidding about investing in the Amazon bears... we are planning to drop ours off at an Angel Tree at the mall along with a few other gifts the kids will buy with some of their and our money

With the Target coupons that have been floating around (15$ off 150$ any purchase, 5$ off 29 Lego, 5$ off 50$ Lego) along with price matching Amazons prices you can get some flying deals with your Red Card right now.
Been hitting 40% MSRP or more some great sets.

It's been a great two weeks for me and Lego deals! Expanding my parts collection on the cheap! Happy Thanksgiving all!

Does that code work for multiple books? I only got it to work for he first one in my cart.

Yes it's very thoughtful to give an under privileged kid a reminder that someone spent a lot of money on Amazon and all they got was this lousy stuffed bear.
  • nkx1nkx1 Member Posts: 719
^Good point. A stuffed bear in today's high-tech society is a pretty lousy gift. I suspect most kids would be pretty disappointed with such a "gift".
  • BuilderMomBuilderMom Member Posts: 21
I'm glad that I'm not the only one who was saddened to hear of plans to give underprivileged kiddos an Amazon bear. I mean, if you weren't otherwise planning on giving anything, it's a net plus. But, if you were and then just give this freebie instead...well, that sucks. Suppose you're little Timmy who is looking forward to getting his only gift this year. He sees his brothers get a football and a lego set...then he opens his Amazon bear. How do you think he'll feel? Personally, I always try to find something really cool for those gifts.

At Brickset "little Timmy" is a good indicator of Godwin's law.

You know, stuffed animals are great for really young kids. It's not like some 10-year-old boy is getting one instead of a Police Station set. It'd more likely go to a 3-year-old that would love it and is too young for LEGO anyway.

There is a place for all toys given.
Most places are smart enough to balance the toys against the age, or a larger giftes against several smaller gifted.
I was obsessed with stuffed animals through elementary, and would have taken a stuffed animal over a football any day. I have one child this year whose top items on the list are books and dolls. Pretty high tech, huh?

You guys are missing my joke, but that's ok. Commence with spending hundreds of dollars on your Lego addiction and bless your hearts for being so kind to give a poor child a fresh stuffed Teddy bear (printed with Amazon's awesome logo). I'm sure it will warm their little hearts this cold Christmas.

oh and Helm's Deep #9474 , and Architecture UN HQ too
  • LegoFanTexasLegoFanTexas TexasMember Posts: 8,409
Thanks for the heads up on the cargo train... that is a great set...

Do remember to add the free 2013 Gund Bear, it is a nice quality bear made of very soft material.

That being said, Amazon does have a limit as to how many bears you can buy (free or otherwise). I must admit I hit the limit on Wednesday, so no more free bears for me. :(

Not sure if I want to admit what that limit is however. ;)

Boo... Amazon doesn't love Toys for Tots!!! Think of the children!!! :)

^ No kidding, clearly Amazon is matching Walmart here...

In fairness, Walmart has a few things that Amazon doesn't have, and of course freedom from restrictive qty limits, however fighting the door buster crowd has a cost as well.

I commented a day or two ago that I do not recall in 3 years of keeping track, ever seeing this much on sale at once.

That list is the majority of the current LEGO sets that Amazon is selling, not counting exclusives of course.

I wonder if it occurs to TLG that this sort of sale runs the risk of making people think this is the new "normal"? After watching almost everything vary between 25% and 40% off the past few weeks, a return to "normal" pricing at some point will be weird.
  • BastaBasta Australia Member Posts: 1,259
^ with regard to "the new normal", at least 20% off is it in Australia. More weeks then not one of our larger department stores will be running such a sale. There really is no reason to buy at RRP these days and those of us AFOL's who shop around don't get excited unless we are getting >25% off.

Looks like Amazon has a bunch of Lego lightning deals lined up. Most of the ones already sold out were in the 30% off range.

LEGO City Train Station 7937: waitlist full in seconds?!?!?!? Incredible.
  • lordzaraklordzarak OH, United StatesMember Posts: 329
I made the waitlist for 7937. By the time it freed up and was in my cart, 7939 jumped back up in price. The plus side is 7938 is in the queue for a lightning deal in a couple hours.
  • cloaked7cloaked7 Member Posts: 1,448
Yup, the Amazon lightning deals on LEGOS are near impossible to get. They are sold out by the time the button displays to put them in my cart! That happened twice and I gave up trying. I have a fast internet connection, but I suppose that is more common today than a few years ago.
  • margotmargot Member Posts: 2,310

I've gotten on the wait list at 400 with a poor chance if getting the deal but it's opened up. Just wait patiently.
Used my cell while checking out at TRU with my Town Square. :-)
  • LegoFanTexasLegoFanTexas TexasMember Posts: 8,409
I have stopped even trying with the lightning deals. Sometimes I get one by random luck, but the time to watch for them, only to be sold out in seconds, is nearly useless.

I tried getting the bear this morning but it was not discounting in my cart. I have only received one previously. Anyone else having an issue?
  • LegoFanTexasLegoFanTexas TexasMember Posts: 8,409
Working fine... I can preview it and see the discount, it just won't let me check out with it.

Make sure you have $75 worth of stuff before adding the bear.

I had no idea the lightning deals were... well... so lightning fast. I tried to grab Council of Elrond this morning b/c my local wally world didn't have it in stock for the 30% off sale. I literally tried to add it the exact moment the deal started and still missed out on it.
  • madforLEGOmadforLEGO Chicagoland USMember Posts: 9,435
I see that the BTTF Deloren set is going to be a lightning deal today, as well as the Battle at Helms Deeps. Comanche camp too.. Wow. Small Cottage.. wonder what that could drop to, Im guessing 17 and change.

I've had the same experience. I've given up trying. 30% off isnt work waiting and then missing out.

I dont understand the mania, either. Stephanie's soccer practice went to 'waitlist full' very quickly, but at only a 30% discount. That set has been available for $8 or less from multiple places recently. (and will by 50% off on monday @ [email protected]).
  • OUWxGuesserOUWxGuesser Member Posts: 92
Heh ya- every set is going to full waitlist within 5 seconds- the online equivalent of BF hysteria. Many of these sets are still subject to reaching min order for free shipping, and with lightning deals spaced out, odds are you will need separate orders for the sets you are interested in.
  • madforLEGOmadforLEGO Chicagoland USMember Posts: 9,435
Wow. Well Got the BTTF set for 24 and change. Good deal and pretty much claimed to 100% within about 15-20 seconds
