Walmart Friday 8AM - 30% off ALL Lego

Hi All -

Just saw the Walmart Black Friday Manager's Specials, and it appears that they'll be offering ALL LEGO 30% off beginning Friday at 8AM.

http://www.walmart.com/cp/1163542?povid=P1171-C1143.3258+1139.4049-L0

As with most Walmart promos, the prices of these items will actually probably drop sometime between midnight and 8AM, and many people who are already in the store will probably fill their carts and then checkout as soon as the prices drop.

A couple interesting points:
1.) The bottom of the ad states that rainchecks will be made available if items sell out. This appears just to be their standard advertised merchandise policy.
2.) The 6PM doorbuster $15 set isn't excluded in the text of the ad... so if your store still has any of those left in the morning, they should be $10.50.

Interesting because at the top of the ad it states "Quantities are limited. No rainchecks."

Leave to me to scour the fine print but not see the glaringly obvious. The advertised merchandise policy always exludes "limited quantities" items, so my guess is rain checks will not be given out. But it never hurts to ask if there's something you really want...

are exclusives considered to be "limited Quantities" or is this a test to the LEGO rules?
  • BTHodgemanBTHodgeman Member Posts: 622
    @111ins - I'm not sure what you're asking?

At the top of the ad, it says "Quantities are limited. No rainchecks." I take that to mean every item/category in the ad.
  • sidersddsidersdd Member Posts: 2,432
^^ I think this is in-store only. So, you'll likely not find 'exclusives' in-store.

How will those people know when the prices drop? Is there an announcement or something? Sorry for the ignorance - I've never attended a Walmart on Black Friday.
  • BTHodgemanBTHodgeman Member Posts: 622
@sidersdd - There won't be an announcements, but you can use the price scanners or ask a cashier to check the price.

Walmart uses what are internally called "tab files" to lower prices when they do category-level or broad price reductions. They always advertise these prices as being effective at 8AM, but they are almost always live earlier.

For example, for last week's Friday sale, many people saw prices effective as of about 2-3AM.

So if someone wanted to hang out inside walmart from the time the $15 sets come out until Friday morning 8am (14 hours) they could save $5 off each set? So if someone wanted 20 sets it would net a savings of $100. So it would work out to $7.14 an hour in savings and that's just of you got 20. Hmmmm
  • dneuldneul Member Posts: 369
What to do in walmart for 14 hours besides pushing around 2 baskets of Lego?
  • BTHodgemanBTHodgeman Member Posts: 622
    @dneul - In theory, yes.

I suspect that the $15 set won't be automatically included in the 30% off, but you'd definitely have a fighting chance at arguing for the discount.
  • dneuldneul Member Posts: 369
I am really not greedy when I said 20.... I will be shopping for the recreation center. They added a Lego building class and right now they are borrowing Lug brick to start the class but at this cost it would be worth stocking up.

Is this only in the US?

Of course after little Timmy's mom got him one of course

This isn't good enough. I demand Walmart give the Lego away.

Well, my prediction is that the LEGO shelves will be wiped by noon... so you might *think* they gave it away ;)

This could even turn into a survivor style event. How long can you last inside of a walmart for a discount?

For one thing, nobody could pay me to stand in a crowded Walmart for more than a few hours... not even if the Lego in my cart were free.

Well, as a Canadian, seeing a 30% off Lego sale on American retail prices pretty much looks a lot like a "free Lego" sign. I looked at most of the BlackFriday flyers for Canada already, and the deals essentially add up to "sucks to be you"! TRU Canada has half off Speedorz (which $10 is still more than I'd pay for one minifigure) and half off the Hobbit WargAttack (which would be $30 for a tree and two rocks)... the kind of sets which are "too much at any price".
  • BTHodgemanBTHodgeman Member Posts: 622
@Ypres - I saw that Canadian Walmarts have the same brick box that the US stores do. Of course it's $20 up there vs. $15 here.

Maybe I have been spoiled by recent Amazon sales but 30% is par for the course these days....I need a much bigger discount to brave walmart on BF.

Hey! I think I've seen some of them in Walmart. And, just recently. Come to think of it, is it an ongoing event? Because I think I've seen some of those 'survivors' every time I'm in Walmart! :-)

Yeah...I'm in the same boat. I spent too much buying during B & N 40% plus 10%, TRU sales and Lego triple points, that 30% doesn't seem to peek my interest. I didn't buy anything during their summer clearance at 30% and I'm lucky enough to find stuff around here for 50%.

What's worth getting at WM for 30% off that I can't find somewhere else cheaper? My close WM has the SW Gunship 30% already for $79..it'd be great if it went another 30%off on Friday.

Umm, you're not going to see the SW Gunship for 60% off. At least not this year. It has already jumped back to $100 on Amazon and it's sold out online at Walmart. It's a big, popular set and you might as well wait for it to clearance next spring at Target if you can find it.
  • LegoFanTexasLegoFanTexas Member Posts: 8,404
I think he meant 30% off the 30% off price, which is closer to 50% off RRP, which would indeed be amazing... the thing is less than a year old...

But frankly, I would have said a month ago that the odds of the discounts we've seen would be unlikely...

And we aren't even to Black Friday yet, just wait until the 7th of Dec when retailers make their push to clear out everything before Christmas. It is much cheaper and easier to push it all at 35% off Dec 10th than it is to push it out at 50% off Dec 26th.
  • mathewmathew Member Posts: 2,099
^ Sure, but often by the second week of December the shelves at most retailers look like a hurricane blew through. Just my observation, but it seems to me that retailers are more and more looking for the early, pre-BF sales rather than last minute ones.
  • mathewmathew Member Posts: 2,099
Another example of waiting too long: If you wanted the Millennium Falcon the best time to have bought one is a few weeks ago when Amazon had it for around $100. It even popped up in my Gold Box deals for $95 (I think). It's not a set I really like so I skipped it, but I don't foresee any sales on it until next year.
  • dougtsdougts Member Posts: 4,110
yeah, I know my local Target stores were pretty much stripped bare of any desirable LEGO by the end of the first week of December - and much of that was at full price too.
  • mathewmathew Member Posts: 2,099
^ Exactly. Most people don't wait and wait for the percentage points to drop off of a price. Only nutters like us ; )

Do you not recall the 30% off sales last December at Target, then in the second week or so of December, they stacked BOGO 50% on top of that? Screaming deals to be had on Bank and Money transfer among other sets.

Yes, but the economy still hasn't recovered, and frankly, regardless of what U-3 unemployment says, the actual unemployment is getting worse, not better.

Last year, despite having tons of way overpriced LEGO, TRU stores did indeed look like a tornado cleared their LEGO shelves, but Walmart still had stock and Amazon wasn't sold out of everything.

I think this year, we have yet to see the best sales. My gut tells me the reason the sales are already this good is that they have too much product and it just isn't moving fast enough.

For anyone in the PacNW, FredMeyer is offering 25% off all Lego that stacks with a 10 off 50, 20 off 100, and 30 off 150 coupon in the weekly flier. Today is last day though!

Well I'm curious what we'll see then. Since Exclusives are off the table there's really nothing else that can excite me.

With the Hospital/Helicopter Rescue being $50 now the 30% off is now an incentive for me to buy it. $35 for that set is pretty good to me :)

I agree with the Hospital set. That is about the only set that I want that I dont think will be clearanced after Christmas.

Also, more than likely it will be gone as well and not restocked.

^ Their BF ad shows #4628 Fun With Bricks. My local WM had hundreds of them in stack in the isle with a sign telling customers they won't scan until 8:00 PM Thanksgiving.

I found a Walmart that still has some #6860 Batcave's which I've been wanting to stock up on. I wonder if now is the time.

Amazon may well end up giving away a set to sell exclusives. They already do combo deals for promos, I've bought a few electronic items that were "buy this, get this item free" deals from them, when they couldn't discount the electronic item.

How about "Free Millennium Falcon w/DS purchase?" That is about your 25% off that you were looking for, sort of. Or they could just do $100 gift card with DS/SSD purchase and be done with it.

As for the normal stuff... don't be shocked to see 50% off something before Christmas from Amazon. They are already at 40% on a few things and black Friday isn't even here yet.

Just made a halfhearted trip to WM, and I am wholeheartedly delighted to rule out any need to venture back tomorrow. There is nothing there to discount.
  • margotmargot Member Posts: 2,308

Just made a halfhearted trip to WM,

Noooo, don't go shopping on Thanksgiving. I feel so bad for the workers. I saw an employee I know at TRU who looked absolutely RAGGED yesterday, and he told me how he has to work today and tomorrow and he seemed miserable about it.

Good luck everyone that goes out there at 8am, I can't even imagine how nuts it'll be in some areas!
  • sramsram Member Posts: 60
Is the 30% deal already in effect? I am confused by what I see browsing walmart.com.
  • madforLEGOmadforLEGO Member Posts: 10,789
Yeah not surprisingly the 30% off of ALL LEGO forgot the asterisk *-Exclusives and hard to finds not included in sale.

Not to mention maybe my arithmetic is off, but the deals online are not 30% off, at least for some of the sets I am seeing.

Still interested in the hospital set but it is showing for 47.97 right now :-(
  • josephliyenjosephliyen Member Posts: 26
Do you guys know if walmart has the 2014 Hobbit and Ninjago sets? If they do I assume they would be 30% off as well? Thanks.
  • legogallegogal Member Posts: 754
It would take at least $50,000. US tax free cash to make me start up the Prius and head to any store on BF. There is nothing I need that badly for sure. Sounds like a great day for sorting and building now that we have finally finished all our WV sets….except for the many key missing parts.
And we certainly have plenty of leftovers to eat the day after Thanksgiving. The only place I will be going for sure on BF is the gym…to swim off what I over ate today. Ta Ta for Now!
