[US] Some deals at TRU this week 11/17-11/23

Obviously the TMNT Baxter set for $25, but I also saw

TLR Train for $65
TLR Colby City for $32-33
TLR Mine for ~$43
Eris Eagle Interceptor for $18
SW Battle of Hoth for $30

There were more, believe it or not, that's just all I can recall. Free Xmas Tree polybag with $20+.

Our TRU was ill prepared for the #30186 Christmas Tree give away. They had to hunt all over for the box containing them. Finally a very young employee looked where two others had supposedly looked and found them. Manager gave us an extra for having to wait. TRU grade for preparedness = D, manager's grade for customer service = A.

Also found an #3065 Olivia's Tree House in stock for $21.99. Hubby found the #7345 Coast Guard Transport Chopper, which he hadn't seen before.

SW Battle of Hoth for $30

Did you see this in store, or was it advertised somewhere?

    in-store only, i guess?
  • BrickarmorBrickarmor Member Posts: 1,258
@binaryeye It may very well be in-store only. I didn't have a lot of time while there, but the the ones I listed were definitely on sale at that price. Surprised me too!

TRU must actually be desperate for sales this year to mark stuff down close to 40% off retail. Of course, those sets may not be selling well either, so who knows. Too bad I bought the interceptor set from Amazon on the lightening deal.

Got the castle gatehouse for $17.49

Amazon not moving TLR sets at 30% off is a telltale sign. Best to wait until after Xmas for 50-70% off. Those sets are not selling at all from what I can tell, IMHO.

^i thought about waiting too, but ended up getting four constitution trains at $65 each plus the free Xmas tree poly. May see it lower after Xmas but I'd rather go ahead and have them now at a decent price vs waiting for a killer deal. I think if they were to hit 50% off at amazon they'd be gone in a heartbeat (train set only; others might linger)
  • pharmjodpharmjod Member Posts: 2,916
Hey, I snagged a TLR Train from Walmart for $10.59, so if I don't get anymore I'm ok ;) I will however be all over it at 50% or greater off if I can find it.
  • mathewmathew Member Posts: 2,099
So can anyone else confirm Battle of Hoth for $30? It's not in the weekly ad so I'm suspicious. The local TRU shows that it's in stock but $60.
  • margotmargot Member Posts: 2,308
^You could call your store and ask them.
  • graphitegraphite Member Posts: 3,275
They had them for $29.99 at my TRU. Just picked up a couple trains and a few other sets for parts. Amazing that TRU actually has real deals worth buying!
  • BrickarmorBrickarmor Member Posts: 1,258
My wife stopped by another TRU one city over and reports that Summer Riding Camp was $90 and Helms Deep was $110. Really seems like TRU HQ may have just let local managers have their pick.
  • scotty12scotty12 Member Posts: 852
Wonder if this a week long deal or just a few days event? When do they start their extended hours for the holidays?
The Helms Deep is a new, lower price at $110...the Friends Summer Riding Camp has been $89 at my local TRU for a few weeks now

here is the train set it was marked at 109.99 on sale at 50% off at 64.99
but they gave it to me at $54.99
  • hleonffuhleonffu Member Posts: 247
These deals look to be in-store only. The sale tag says good Nov 17 to 23. There are also some technic sets. They also had #60016 City Tanker Truck for $10.99 or 45% for those that missed the sale last week.
  • nkx1nkx1 Member Posts: 719
@hleonffu, do you remember what Technic sets they had on sale? Specifically, I was hoping to find deals on the #42009 Mobile Crane and the #42008 Service Truck.
  • bsiu922bsiu922 Member Posts: 439
    thanks for the tip

got the Eris Eagle Interceptor for $18.99 and the LR StageCoach Escape #79108 for 19.99. then also get the free 30186

^ Tow Truck and Tractor were 50% off the TRU markup. Smaller discounts on some others, but I don't think either of those two.
  • rocaorocao Administrator Posts: 4,290
I made out pretty well. My total was $900 at checkout, so I decided to open a TRU credit card to get an additional 15% off. The cashier was willing to break up the transaction so I could get multiple free polys but the head cashier told her that I could only have one.

I stopped by another TRU on my way home from my football game since the 15% is good all day. The cashier there also wanted to give me multiple polys and she had the power to do so; she even was smart about it by just marking them all down to a penny so we didn't have to do multiple transactions. I think she gave me 15-20. My total maxed out the $1500 limit the TRU card gave me so she let me partial pay and still get the new card discount.

Aggressive pricing AND great customer service at TRU. It's been a long time since I could say that and I hope it stays the rule and not the exception. It definitely looks like they are competing harder this year.

@clowndiscuslego Nice catch. I'm going to head back tomorrow morning and see if it's the same at my store to get credited for the trains I just bought.

Rocao, you stated "tow truck". Is this the Pick-Up Tow Truck #9395, or the new Service Truck #42008? Just wondering if it's worth my time checking for the Service Truck. Thanks!
  • hleonffuhleonffu Member Posts: 247
@nkx1 these are the only technic sets of note. None are the ones you mention.

    #9393 Technic Tractor $22.49 or 43%

    #9394 Technic Jet Plane $27.49 or 45%

    #9395 Technic Pick-up Tow Truck $39.99 or 43%

^Ah, bummer! Thanks for the reply, hleonffu.

Edit: I re-read your post; nevermind, Rocao! Got it, no sale on the Service Truck, unfortunately.

Tagging on, some new city sets popping up at TRU (online so far) #60055 #60056 #60057
  • nkx1nkx1 Member Posts: 719
^Nice find! I want #60056, but couldn't really find anything else at the moment to buy. $8 shipping kills the deal for me.
  • margotmargot Member Posts: 2,308
^Yeah, I'm holding out for in store also. There is a 15% off coupon if you decide to buy online. Code Save15
  • nkx1nkx1 Member Posts: 719
Probably a moot point anyway. Right after I posted, I changed my mind and ordered. Sure enough, 60056 was sold out right when I clicked to finalize my order:( That was fast!

Oh crap, I didn't expect that at all. I wanted to order #60057, the camper. Actually, I wanted to go buy #60057 in store, but if it sold out online then it will probably take awhile to be in store.

By the way, everybody should take a minute (or 10) to fill out the survey on your TRU receipt. From what I understand the ratings and comments are taken pretty seriously. I've been filling them out for a while now, always answering their "What can we do better" question with something like "Put your LEGO sets on real sales, quit jacking your prices up, and enough with the "Hot Price" gimmicks and exclusions already! We're not stupid!" And now I actually have something sort of positive to say: "At least if you're going to be brunch for Bane Capital, go down fighting!"

Came back from my local TRU (thanks @Brickarmor for the heads up)
Got 2 trains, 2 Colby City sets, and 2 Stagecoaches.
But the TRU insisted on the 65 for the train but I got the polybag christmas trees I picked up for free as well.

If anyone has purchased a Monster Fighters castle #9468 from Toysrus, would you mind checking the numbered seal tapes? Mine has doubled tapes on that side. I just noticed that, would like to know if this was legit or not. Thanks for your help.
  • korkor Member Posts: 392
Not sure if anyone else mentioned it but 70401 Gold Getaway was almost 50% off at my local store, coming in at under 11.00. I picked up a pile :)

Well I just went crazy at TRU as well. Spent just over $660 and got 1 free poly bag for every $20 I spent. So i ended up with 33 of the Christmas trees and the system took them off automatically. It charged me for the 34th one so i had them take it off. I did not have to do anything like splitting up the purchases. So that was awesome. I also got 3 of the TLR train chase for $55 because they still had the $109.99 price up on the main aisle even though the lego section had the $129.99 price. My receipt tells me that I saved $798.17 so I think I did fairly well.

What is everyone finding? Mostly TLR sets?

Thanks for the heads up guys. Wish I asked for multiple polys now after spending over $100 and only getting 1. :p

On the TRU website they have the Red Cargo Train #3677 listed at $99.98, only "Sold in Stores" though. I assume not many stores would have stock but if you can find one its a good price, especially for a retired set.
  • ShouldavilleShouldaville Member Posts: 51
I noticed double tape seals on almost all of the Hoth sets as well. They had a ton of them with no sale sign posted. Two LEGO reps were working the aisle. I would have asked about it, but other people were bugging them like they were celebrities.

Too bad you didn't use the $10 gift card coupon.

I ended up with 6 $10 gift cards and 6 Christmas Tree sets, but I have several more coupons I plan to use Saturday.

I'm loving this sale because so far I haven't been tempted by anything. My wallet sighs with relief.

I brought the polys up with me. I found them on an end rack and grabbed a bunch. When I saw I could get them all on the same transaction and the system was doing it I went back and grabbed a bunch more to ring up until it charged me for 1. They had to subtotal it for the system to adjust the price to free. Otherwise it looked like I was being charged. They did not have any behind the counter.
