Best route to sell a collection?

I have never sold anything. Would like to get some help figuring out the best way to sell my LEGO collection. Do I use Ebay, open a Bricklink store, or is another route the best way to go?

I know the first thing I need to do is get organized. I know I have some decent sets like the modulars and grand carousel, but the rest is unknown except for what I logged into Brickset. Does what I have matter how I sell?

My best guess is that I have about 1500 unopened sets still in the shipping boxes with about another 100 or so that have been built.

Have a bunch of other toys that need to go as well.

    You will probably want to sell big items like the Grand Carousel individually to maximize your returns. There are also probably a lot of folks on here interested in what you have to offer so you might want to post a marketplace ad before going to eBay or elsewhere. No fees + new friends

    You have 1,500 unopened sets? That's a shame if you have all the Lego wealth and have not enjoyed building them! Also, that is a lot to move. Get a complete list and post it here. Once we see the list we can better direct you on the best way to unload.

    Oh, I would be interested in your Grand Carousel as my oldest was just mentioning that she wishes she had purchased that set.

    Really reminds me of John P on Bricklink who amassed a big collection of sealed sets over 36 years and sold them all. Try contacting him for advice, he's friendly.

    The whole process of selling on ebay, craigslist, here or anywhere is exhausting and time consuming. The best thing you could do is just box it all up and ship it off somewhere. I'll PM you my address.

    It is a shame. My son and I had grand plans, but never found the time. We are starting to go through it all today, but I think everyone can look at the ones that are logged into the main site. I have the same user name there.

    If you never found the time to build them, you are unlikely to find the time to get best prices for them. It takes a long time to market and then carefully package and post 1500 sets.

    I suggest doing them in batches, either here, or bricklink or ebay (probably in that order). You'll have to research prices first, or just take offers.

    Make sure you have materials to post them before selling them.

    If you are not in a hurry, then open an ebay account and start listing. Now is the season to sell.

    If you do use eBay just remember, you will be charged 10% final value fee and another 10% fee for your postage, plus a percentage for the privilege of Paypal receiving your money.

    @samiam391 I'm in Louisville.

    My plan is to get through all the boxes. Once I do that, I will post here first. I guess I will sell on Bricklink after that.

    ^ @margot- You and @jlbblue live so close that you probably shop for Lego in the same stores. Who knows, maybe you have even passed each other in the Lego aisle without even knowing it.

    @margot is the winner, just bring a moving truck. Heck, you can have the house too.

    @LegoMom1, we do shop in the same stores. I had been to the Walmart she got Mr. Gold from three times that week and was headed there later the same day. She has much better luck getting deals, I just hope for leftovers.

    Some of the sets in your set list were only released after you posted this thread - such as #40082. Are you still buying stuff?

    Yard sales for me have been rather successful. You get more back from your investment (no shipping costs or ebay fees). This allows you to have very competitive prices and it saves you a lot of trouble. Just advertize locally or on Craigslist a few weeks in advance and up signs the day of the sale. You will be surprised how many people will pay good money for pre-owned Legos at a yard sale.
