Not to say it's not interesting information from a demographical standpoint, but is it really necessary to do the whole "me too" thing with these invites? There was some bad blood with the whole vip keychain thing, and I can't imagine that people who don't have one are happy seeing people around them getting them, especially when there is no visible criteria as to why some get it and some don't. Humans are delicate, funny things, after all.

^ I don't see a problem with it, especially if people are finding out fellow Bricksetters are going to be there. For me the problem with the VIP keychain thing was about LEGO saying there were criteria when it appeared to be completely random, the conversation didn't make it worse, in fact I was glad to hear from people who had heard it was random.

We had this conversation last year, when I was relieved to not get one thereby providing evidence to show my husband that 20-25 people in the immediate vicinity spend more on LEGO than I do :), I don't think anyone was bothered by it.

I'm finding it interesting that the threshold seems much lower this year, do you think it's because more people are being invited or there are different criteria? Or because everyone is in denial about how much they've spent in the last year :)?

Was there bad blood when people were saying me too with finding Mr. Gold's? You can look at the other side of the coin here as well. This is a great Lego community here on these boards, people should be happy for others that they get an opportunity to experience something cool. I don't see anything wrong with sharing this exciting news with others. If someone feels Some sort of anger or jealousy over it then they need to realize how petty that is.

I definitely don't want to rub it in to those that haven't received it, but announcing it here may be an opportunity to meet other Bricksetters that day. Also the invitation suggest that we are allowed to bring a guest. I plan to bring my wife (have to get baby sitting for the kids probably), but if she backs out then I would be happy to take a backup from San Diego so this opportunity does not go waste. I will try to meet Allen Tran, the host of TheBrickFan, since I see he had posted this info also, especially if the invitation list is short.

@vwong19 Farmer_john offered to take me last year but then I got one of the store's invitations direct from an assistant manager and was able to take another Bricksetter. I hope he gets his own this year while I'm out of town. I actually didn't consider my husband because I like to spread discounts around amongst friends :). I hope you have fun.

If anyone feels slighted because they miss out on a special gift from the Lego Group, be it the red minifigure keychain, an invite to the pre black friday event or the factory tour, they should realize it's not all that much different than going to your local store to buy a sale item only to find out it's no longer on sale! It is simply a disappointment, if they consider it more than that they may be putting too much importance on their hobby.

I personally hope everyone who wants to participate in the pre black friday event gets an invite, and everyone who can and wants to attend the factory tour gets to. Yes, I'm aware that may be overly simplistic, but it's how I feel.

I think it should be a lottery system where if people want to be invited they should throw their name in to their local store and get luck of the draw.

For what it's worth, I don't see a problem with how this discussion has transpired thus far. There were elements present in the VIP keychain discussion that caused friction that are not yet (and hopefully never) present here.

I'm with @Jenni on this one. Make it a social occasion. The discounts (if any) are nice but make it more about putting names to faces, enjoying breakfast afterwards etc.

I like hearing about people receiving invites because it allows me to keep an eye on whether invites are still being sent out and received and where so that it can keep that faint glimmer of hope alive in me that I'll get one too before my soul is inevitably crushed as the date passes with nothing through my door.

Certainly. Keep me posted. My wife would probably care less, but I had to ask her and she was curious.

Logistically, I will inquire if the store will allow kids to be in the store during the event without buying priveledes. It wouldn't be much fun if my wife and I had to rotate in/out of the store and watch the kids from outside. Mall stores are closed between 9-10a on Sat.

So how do I add my name to the VIP Personal Ads?
SWMAFOL in Maryland. I like sushi, limericks, and long walks on the beach. When not avoiding dirty looks for bringing home large yellow bags, I enjoy building what is in said large yellow bags.

That's probably because most of the really big spenders got banned from [email protected] and are on a reseller blacklist.

I just got my invitation today for the Indianapolis store. I didn't think I spent a lot but then remembered I did buy a Death Star among other things. I have no idea if that really matters or not...

So what does that stand for exactly? I did a quick google search and came up with nothing, tried just the SWM and only one entry in urban dictionary showed up but ... it seemed too crude.

I got the invitation from the Frisco store today. I received invitation three years in a roll and it was odd that last year I got the letter from the Dallas store, where I shopped only once or twice.

HA! Just checked. I was trying to make a Lego-y reference to that creepy movie Single White Female, maybe Single White AFOL would he been better. I'm actually quite married, hence the rolling of eyes when I come home with more sets for the great closet o' Lego.

Maybe another Bricksetter could stop motion a spoof of the movie? Or Basic Brick-stinct?

I was pleased to receive an invite, but there's not enough of an incentive for me to get to the store by 7am! Does anyone know if these are transferable? They're not numbered this year, and my name's not on the pass, just the envelope. Can another VIP member use my pass?

At our store the answer was "no, only two people per invite - no exceptions." Your local store may give a different answer.

Just received an invitation from the new LEGO Store in Salt Lake City, Utah. I sure didn't expect it. The store has been open for about six weeks. Life just gets better and better every day.

What do they do at these events anyway? Any promotions/giveaways that are worth waking up for?

Still wish I got that keychain....

Past two years everyone got a free pick-a-brick box, a scratch off ticket to determine their discount on their whole purchase - no sets were reduced though. It's a good chance to visit with other AFOL's but it's not really much of a party atmosphere, just an opportunity to shop. I think someone said they have eliminated the scratch off discounts this year, we'll see! Our store manager invited us to attend.
  • MathBuilderMathBuilder Member Posts: 150
@ChgoMatt 7am? That is odd I thought they were supposed to be at 9:00 in all locations.

As AFFOL_Shellz_Bellz pointed out, the answer is likely to be no. They give you 2 passes and only people with a pass can enter. I was there the last 2 years (probably won't get an invite this year) and the attendants were all either 2 adults or a parent with child.
My suggestion is think about what you want to buy in advance, bring the family but just arrive 10-15 minutes before 10:00. In that way you and your eldest child can go in and shop right away with the discount, get a freebie each and then at 10 the whole family can go in the store for play.

Just an FYI, I think the deal with bringing kids depends on the store, so you might want to ask when your RSVP. I went to the Arundel Mills store last year, and they had no problem at all letting the wife and I come in with our two kids...in fact, I think they probably viewed it as a positive as of course we bought more. Also, we we're able to get the same BF prices on sets (knew I shoulda bought the Dino HQ for $79.95 plus the 20% off scratcher I got...)
  • madforLEGOmadforLEGO Member Posts: 10,791
Pretty sure last year there were some discounts for some sets, but nothing huge I believe. I think they do knock a couple of sets down to what they will be on BF if they know already what those are going to be. I REALLY hope I get an invite.. Have not been this excited to check for mail in a while now..

last year the store manager asked me if i had gotten the invite after @legodad42 offered me his +1 so i was gtg, forgot to ask yesterday if i made the cut (they get a list at the store and can add people to it from what I understand) It was fun, were a few other I LUG NY members there, the invites can be sent for weird stores but you can take it to ones more convenient from what I understand (members in CT were sent for stores in LI... closest to them, but only by helicopter)

What is the freebie they give out, also do you think they will have the second winter set that is suppose to give out on Black Friday.

  • wrangler6915wrangler6915 Member Posts: 528
^^ freebie last year was the ltd. edition sleigh set. Not sure how they'll do it this year, but I would imagine it will be the BF set. Seems a lot of folks didn't get the 40082 towards the end of the month, so I'd guess the second set is in more supply

Anyone receive one for the Woodfield Mall location in IL?
Just wondering if I am getting snubbed, or if they may not have been sent out for that location.
  • Farmer_JohnFarmer_John Member Posts: 2,405
Well...I went last year, but got snubbed by the Nashville store this year. Have to admit my main reason for wanting a VIP pass was to avoid the BF crowd. I won't brave the BF crowd no matter what Lego is giving away. Looks like this year will be online or nothing. If the online sales aren't decent, then it will be nothing.

For the freebie do you have to make the 100 purchase or they just give it to you. On the paper sounds like they will just give it to you, but I never gone so I don't know.
  • rocaorocao Administrator Posts: 4,290
I didn't make the list at my local store. It's hard to believe I didn't qualify, so I will just chuckle, roll my eyes, and assume I'm overqualified.

@goldfreek Please be sure to introduce yourself. PM sent. @doubledbrick the only true freebie has been the pick-a-brick box, the holiday set requires a purchase. The pick-a-brick can be filled after Christmas as I recall.

It depends on the store, the LEGO store I went to said you can fill the box that day. Plus you can still get another if you hit the 75 dollar limit.

@BrickDancer, I only lived there a year because I was working on call out of the Ontario airport, and I was waiting for my condo building to be built in Seattle. Pacific Northwest was more my style than SoCal.
