I was hoping the Legend Beasts would be like new animal moulds - but I don't think that's going to happen now. Oh well, I guess my ask for a minifig scale lion was too much :-)

But I think we're definitely getting bears in the sets, maybe? Beavers could come in the Speedorz sets?

Either way, with all these interesting new sets and stuff, Lego's taking all my money next year too! :-)

Yeah I thought that after I posted earlier...I'm betting bears are more likely since you can choose a bear in the online game....but I like the beaver designs on the show better than the bears.

From what I'm thinking, I believe we have Bears vs Rhinos, and perhaps Scorpions vs Spiders (that'd make sense, they're both arachnids) in this new wave. Others like the beavers could come in later waves or Speedor sets. I've heard 'bats' being chucked around as a potential tribe too - all I know is I'll have to re-jig my minifig display once I see set pics!

But the one thing that's bugging me... Lavertus... I'm wondering 'is it yet another member of the Lion tribe, or could it be a new tribe?'. If it is a new Lion, then it sounds like it'll be the only tribe to be carried over from last year. That doesn't make too much sense to me at all. Don't just add new tribes, I'd like to see new members of all the existing tribes in the mix too!

I'll have to wait for official pictures before I can be sure about anything though. So exciting!

Also of note in the new episode of Chima there was a mysterious red and black clad character with tusks (My daughter was hoping he was an elephant but noted that there was no trunk)..it seemed like a character that could be important (and ripe for a toy) but it doesn't seem to fit any of these set names (but that may not be true as some seem vague). My guess is Lavertus is a lion but perhaps one of some importance.

Shadow Wind also (somewhat) resembles a bird (which if that is true, would be a shame as we already have 2 bird tribes). It would be a shame if they dropped all of the tribes from this year. Even if one returned, that is 6 others (nomads (Furty and Skinnet) included) that get no love.

^^ Sorry to be a total Chima geek, but wouldn't it be 7 tribes that get no love if the Lions reappeared? The current tribes that appear to get no mention in the 2014 set list are Eagles, Gorillas, Ravens, Crocs, Wolves, Skunks and Foxes. But if you counted the Legend Beasts, it goes down to just 3 neglected tribes. Which in turn poses a new question: Why no Raven Legend Beast?

But here's my guess as to the tribe in each set name (ok, some are obvious):
70128 Braptor's Wing Striker: Bear
70129 Lavertus' Twin Blade: Lion
70130 Sparratus' Spider Striker: Spider
70131 Rogon's Rock Flinger: Rhino
70132 Scorm's Scorpion Stinger: Scorpion
70133 Spinlyn's Cavern: Possibly Spider
70134 Lavertus' Outland Base: Lion

The Speedorz sets are too hard to tell what tribe they have in them as yet.

Interesting to note that Lavertus has an outland base, though. Perhaps he could be a banished lion?

But, as yet, we are still to see the minifigures we get in each set. So who knows? We could see more Eagles, Wolves, Ravens and Gorillas fighting the new tribes. Honestly, the Gorillas and Ravens could do with a new member each anyway, they only had 4 members in the 2013 wave where every other major tribe had 5.

Just my thoughts.

I don't think this is the complete fig though - I think it's meant to have a back extension for 4 more legs, but I like what I'm seeing!

It'd be kinda cool to collect these minifigs but I have no interest in the sets. Seems like there's a ton of figs and with no licensing to hold them back, Lego can throw wave after wave of these out there.

I agree..figures are nice but sets are so so...loved the gorilla mech though...we usually go with the speedors since it is the most affordable way to get the minifigures...polybags are nice too

I've been acquiring a number of the figures too but also not fussed by most of the sets. However, having recently managed to pick up the Lion Temple set #70010 at a good discount from Amazon with the intention of just parting out, my kids were badgering me to help them build it yesterday, and I actually really enjoyed it and the finished model - the "waterfall" has a really cool organic feel to it and the set does have some pretty good parts in it too.

I'm feel the same way and have been trying to find the least expensive way to collect the figures.

I recently bought the gorilla and wolf sets on sale at the Lego store. And also a few speedor sets.

^^ ^ Same here, i found bricks and pieces on Lego shop useful for getting cheap figures, or at least cheaper than Ebay. They had alot for sale before the sets were available too. Otherwise waiting for 50% off at Amazon, but i found it hard to explain to a 4yr old why he had to wait for his speedorz ;-)

Well here are my thoughts! *cough cough* I saw the first three episodes of the show and no more because the voice acting was dreadful and I found it to be no wear near as good as Ninjago. Perhaps a bit in side of me died when Ninjago was replaced with this. I bought a few small sets 70000, 70001, 70100, 70102, 70113 (For free with the purchase of 4 series 10 figures off of Lego.com Oh Lego <3) And 30250 (For free with my Arkham Asylum Purchase.) The other sets didn't interest me so I got the smaller ones for the figures. The figures are GREAT and this Spider looks amazing so I may have to get one of them however most of the sets will be a definite pass for me, especially with the new Ninjago sets which look Lovely.

The show is a real ear-sore for most of the series, but after some time listening to Laval's absolutely horrible voice, you start to ignore it. The story also progresses slowly at the beginning, but near the middle of the season, thing finally start to get interesting. I'd suggest continuing the show with that in mind as the show is quite good in its own right.

I'm surprised I'm still hearing the "Ninjago was replaced by Chima" myth being repeated. Chima absorbed a lot of Ninjago's marketing budget, but it didn't replace Ninjago any more than Ninjago replaced Atlantis. One just happened to be premiering as a "big bang" theme as the other was on its way out. Or in this case, that's how it was originally intended, but plans changed fairly quickly — we got the "Ninjago is continuing in 2014" confirmation back in December of last year).

I agree the Chima TV show is pretty awful, though I don't mind the voice acting... I think the script is where it's weakest. The characters' voices are great (Laval's childish voice just makes him that much more adorable) but the inane things they are made to say made it difficult for me to actually enjoy. I do like some of the comic relief characters like Plovar and Gorzan, though.

I have greatly enjoyed what I've read of Greg Farshtey's Legends of Chima storybooks, which have a sort of an Aesop's Fables flavor to them. The stories are silly and kid-friendly, without a whole lot of epic mythology, but they're also hilarious, like the story where Cragger buys an "invisibility potion" from Razar and waltzes right into the Lion CHI Temple all alone before he realizes that he's not, in fact, invisible.

Overall, the weakness of the show and my commitment to the Ninjago and Hero Factory themes has made it hard for me to invest heavily in Legends of Chima (all I own personally are a few sets I got for free or at a 50% discount during Brickfair Virginia this year). But the Legend Beasts are looking awesome and just might enough to make a believer out of me. I doubt I'll buy every set... just the ones that I like best. With Ninjago and Hero Factory both continuing as well I have to be a bit selective!

My son will be gutted when the season finishes as he loves to remind me every Thursday on his way to school for me to download the new episode. He loves the show and I really enjoy it as well. Its a very basic story but easy enough for younger children to follow and not too complicated so it holds his concentration. He will happily discuss what has happened and what he thinks will happen in the future. He will then play out the scenes with his figures and sets.

We have never watched Ninjago so maybe after the season finale I will try to get hold of the back episodes and sit down with him and watch it through. Were they ever released on DVD/Blu ray?

They were! I hear the sound quality for the American "Season Two" and Rise of the Green Ninja DVDs is shoddy, though. Not sure if this is also true of the Blu-Ray version or of international DVD copies of those episodes.

The Ninjago TV series actually started with a one-hour TV special which is separate from the seasons that are identified as "season one" and "season two" in America. It's available on DVD, but if you download it from a digital content service like iTunes or Amazon Instant Video (both of which count the two episodes that make up the special, "Way of the Ninja" and "King of Shadows", as part of Season 1), it's actually a bit cheaper. Of course, I prefer having my movies and TV shows as physical disks whenever possible.

The scorpion and spider sets are starting to look a bit too much like Galaxy Squad bugs, in my opinion.

Thanks for posting that, @Aanchir even though the sets are overwhelmingly disappointing. Good to know that Shadowind does make an appearance, my son will be thrilled. We'll get the Rhino set too, but only because TLG insists on either pumping out redundant Speedorz with characters we already have too many of, or introducing totally new species instead of giving us the bears, beavers, and rhinos that have been around since episode 1. Sigh.

he got the lion temple for his bday and weve got him the only one hes not been given, the croc boat, for xmas .
id love to get him a little something else chima ish and wonder if any of the new sets will be in the lego shops (uk) before christmas? are there rellease dates?

otherwise hell get the speedorz track and the seethrough ones ...
(do let me know soonish , tbh hes more likely to get another big set if the new ones will be available )

I don't know entirely what the release schedule is (I'm guessing the official release date is in January, but a lot of stores like to put certain sets out ahead of time). But if the sets haven't shown up in your area yet, I think it'd be VERY risky to wait and hope they do. We're coming up real close on Christmas as it is.

Not sure if you want any recommendations for good Chima sets from this year, and I'm not sure what ones I'd have to offer. My twin brother was a lot more excited about Chima than I was this year, and through a combination of planning and dumb luck we managed to get most of the minifigures of the "main characters" (Laval, Cragger, Eris, Worriz, Gorzan, and Razar)... the ones that we don't have yet we're anticipating for Christmas. But now, come to find out, next year's Legend Beast sets (which seem to be great models at a great low price) will have all of those figs but Razar, and not even in new costumes like some of the bigger sets have! Since I'm much more excited about the Legend Beasts than I was about ANY of this year's sets, we're going to end up with some duplicates.

I'm super-excited for the Legend Beasts! I've built them all on LDD, though I'm not 100% certain of some of the interior parts from the Gorilla and Eagle Legend Beasts. They look like they should each have a more than equitable piece count for their retail price (assuming the European and American prices compare in about the same way as they have in the past). My first purchases will probably be the Crocodile and Wolf Legend Beasts (#70126 and #70127), but I hope to get them all in time.

The Brickset reviews of the Legend Beast sets have made me even more excited about the sets! #70127 Wolf Legend Beast is definitely going to be my first purchase. It's a beautiful model with lots of articulation and a plethora of useful parts.

And now that I realize the figs in the Legend Beast sets don't have capes, I feel better about having gotten most of them from this year's sets.

I'm really surprised by how much the Chima theme has grown on me, when I first saw the images I absolutely hated them but after getting a couple of the speeders for the minifigs on the cheap and a couple of the free promo polys I've found myself buying a couple of the sets. I'm not a massive fan of the vehicles as they are, I'd rather it be a bit more magic centric than technology based, but i think theres some great potential for alterations to remove jet boosters etc to make it look more fantasy-esque

definitely considering some of the bigger new sets.

I will say my 7 year old still has no interest in Chima.
Most of the sets do not interest me either. The upcoming Mammoth looks very cool, though. That is one of the only sets I've found I've been drawn to.

I have very mixed feelings about Chima, a bit like I did about Ninjago: when it (Ninjago) first was rumoured, I thought it was going to be a historical theme, like the one in the early 2000s (which much to my regret, I almost totally missed). However, it turned out to be all about spinners and magical powers and stuff, which I wasn't a great fan of (though, as you can see, it was a hit with the target audience).

So I was wary about Chima, because it just seemed like a rerun of Ninjago. The only set I've seen in the flesh is the Gorilla Mech thingy, which my brother bought because he loves monkeys. I must admit, I was very impressed by the construction of the mech itself (it's the first System mech I've seen - though I owned a fair few of Bionicles/giant Knight's Kingdom figures back in the day), and it does look decent - I like the Gorilla 'look' it has, as well as the banana ammo-belt. That said, I didn't like really like the minifigs themselves. I thought they looked pretty wacky - I much preferred the CMF Gorilla Suit dude as far as 'cuteness' is concerned.

Like always, no doubt they appeal more to the target age range, and no doubt there are collectors who are into it as there are with any theme. But I feel that Lego could have put just a bit more effort into it and made mechs which would have appealed to kids for playability as well as to AFOLS for the building experience/final look.

The Ninja theme from the 90s was great in concept, not quite so great in execution. Like most themes from the late 90s and early naughts, it had a lot of large, specialized pieces (often referred to as "juniorization"). So while the sets looked great, they haven't stood the test of time all that well. Even if Ninjago isn't remotely historically accurate, I like its set designs and minifigure designs a lot more.

I'm quite fond of the Legends of Chima set and minifigure designs, but I'm not as invested in the theme as I was with Ninjago, partly because the TV show got off to such a rocky start. I have heard that it's improved since then but I haven't yet convinced myself to get caught up. I do love the Chima storybooks by Greg Farshtey, though. They have lots of funny and character-driven stories, plus they're fully illustrated (the Ninjago storybooks from Europe are also fully illustrated, but the ones we got in the US were chapter books which included some of the same short stories, with additional, longer stories in place of the European books' illustrations and other content).

This year the only Chima sets on my wish list are the Legend Beasts, which are brilliant. I already have the wolf and my brother has the eagle, and I hope between the two of us we can get the other three. I hope there are new Legend Beasts next year, like ones for the Raven Tribe and Rhino Tribe.

With that said, there are some downright brilliant set designs this year, just as there were last year. Beautiful color schemes too!
