I'm VERY happy that we'll be getting a Red Skull, MODOK, and what sounds like The Taskmaster. I've been wanting the Red Skull especially, and hopefully the other designs look something what's in the LEGO Marvel Video Game, they're superb.
Electro is one of my favorite Spidey villains and I really hope he ends up being the classic design (green tights with yellow and the lightening bolt mask). LEGO, we still need a classic Sinister Six...including Electro you're only 1/3 of the way there.
I am very happy for the junior sets, nice figs I hope the price is nice too, and we have Joker, light blue batman and original version of Robin in small set !
Tuesday I watched MAN OF STEEL, the movie had a pretty well done start but ended up pretty flat. It maches the outcome of the designed LEGO sets - not very interesting set- and figurewise (imo).
Today I watched THOR - the dark world and I imagined 30 great sets LEGO could have made from that movie and 20 minifigures I would love to get.
I personally think LEGO picked the wrong movie and licence!
I had assumed it was an all-inclusive deal, and that we'd be getting some tie-in sets for all the marvel hero movies, building on the avengers resurgence.
Wow.
A whole bunch of 'what can we do with same-y superman', while no Thor at all is... just... daft.
Yes i was in full agreement with you. It's staggeringly short-sighted that they won't be making any Thor tie-in sets, building on the resurgent popularity of the avengers characters, but choose instead to make three man of steel sets (which were all basically variants of the same set anyway) devoid of inspiration or following as that franchise is (comparatively speaking)
The decision to go with Iron Man 3 instead of Thor: The Dark World could be chalked up to any number of reasons, but I think one huge difference is that one was released as a summer blockbuster and the other was released later in the year. Perhaps merchandise for summer films just tends to sell better. Alternatively, perhaps Marvel just considers Iron Man a more marketable character than Thor. It wouldn't be a huge surprise to me if both of those are the case.
Yes, I see what you're saying. (It becomes more a capacity issue for Lego, and to meet any contractual obligations with marvel (if any exist) would have been to produce thor:tdw or iron-man 3). I don't think the license holder would tell Lego not to produce merchandise that promotes one of their characters/films though, rather Lego would most likely be the one who chose not to take out an option they had on a character (in this case, on thor).
But all this aside, which wasn't really what i meant to talk about at all. I simply expected Lego to make some Thor sets, based (mistakenly) on my belief that the existing license agreements they had with Marvel covered the new films, and merely meant to express my surprise that there won't be any after all.
In fact, I meant to say nothing more complicated than this:
No Thor:Dw sets. Really? Huh.
:o)
I cut out a whole chunk of text before posting above, and it's left my above post not making a heap of sense. So please nobody quote me or correct me on license deals. I know. It's a confused sounding post due to bad editing at 5am.
What's the subject? Ah yes, Superheroes 2014. GO!
:oP

These are red skull, captain america and a hydra agent from set 76017.

These are Mary Jane and power man from the marvel spiderman superheroes sets
:-D
Mary Jane is kind of boring (but at least there's a new female face!) and Power Man is a little dull but they look exactly like their video game versions (as do Cap, Red Skull, and HYDRA Agent) which I think is a good sign.
I think since they're releasing some of the minifigs from the game that means they could release others that are just like the game figures, and I really hope they do.
BTW, I think she is supposed to have the blue jeans and Power Man is supposed to have the black pants.
I wouldn't be surprised if all the 2014 Marvel minifigs we are getting look exactly like their game counterparts. Falcon, Electro, Thor (Classic), Taskmaster, MODOK, etc.
I wonder what the GoTG and the X-men minfigs will look like. Those right now are the most interesting for me.
It appears (on first glance only, mind you, so might change after closer inspection) that this is far and away the worst example I have seen of the 'fig is king' mentality of the modern design process.
The price points will most likely be entirely arbitrary based on however many (apparently random) bricks they've thrown in to justify it. The builds look... absent. I like a new fig as much as anyone, but what is the context with no build. Where are the villain headquarters, crime scenes, street locations, etc.
These heroes are always in a rush to get somewhere... but where? That's the eternal mystery of the 'Spandex wearing Petrolheads' theme this is becoming. Racers in Tights perhaps?
Well, at least they never seem stuck for transport options... though parking might be a problem when they're all at home, I certainly wouldn't want to live opposite Peter Parker now, I'd never get off my own drive for all the vehicles blocking me in... (but I suppose Peter doesn't actually live in a house... not until he's able to stick some wheels on one). lol
(I'm being a little over the top for comedic value).
:oP
The building aspect of the SH line has become so perfunctory. The sets are just tokens at this stage.
NO.
NO.
NO.
There goes any enthusiasm.
