Hmm...the Man Bat is really not that disappointing only because it's exactly what I was expecting in the first place, though LEGO certainly could have made more of an effort with him.

I'm VERY happy that we'll be getting a Red Skull, MODOK, and what sounds like The Taskmaster. I've been wanting the Red Skull especially, and hopefully the other designs look something what's in the LEGO Marvel Video Game, they're superb.

Electro is one of my favorite Spidey villains and I really hope he ends up being the classic design (green tights with yellow and the lightening bolt mask). LEGO, we still need a classic Sinister Six...including Electro you're only 1/3 of the way there.

Man Bat is a let down for me, they didn't even bother to do leg printing to make it better. It ranks up there with the orange/purple Two-Face and ASM Doc Ock as the worst Superhero figs so far.

Good images of two of the sets have emerged, as reported on the homepage: http://www.brickset.com/news/article/?ID=8146 The sets look quite reasonable to me, and my thoughts on the Minifigures have been improved by the fact that Penguin appears to have a brand new torso!
  • legodudelegodude Member Posts: 137
I want to see all the Marvel sets. The Disney/Marvel rep said at SDCC no LEGO Marvel sets were shown to avoid spoilers. Now I am thinking spoilers for what? USM? Here is a interesting observation: Spider-man in the Doc Ock truck set is shown with a red torso and dark blue arms/legs. Amazing Spider-man 2 and 1 are inspired from the Ultimate Spider-man comics, (yes just like the TV show). SDCC Spider-man slated to appear in a set in 2014 like Azog? I think yes.

That's what I'm thinking too, the potential profits are pretty great so there's no reason not to stretch it out over years.

on Brickfan you can see a new Hulk minifig, it looks almost same except blue pants and slightly different face expression.

I am very happy for the junior sets, nice figs I hope the price is nice too, and we have Joker, light blue batman and original version of Robin in small set !
  • BuriedinBricksBuriedinBricks Member Posts: 1,367
^Ah, that explains why I've been seeing prices on the Helicarrier version dropping over the past week. I predict the version with darker-colored pants will be much more popular.

I can second that. The video games are great fun, and reeeeeeeaally showcase how great the minifig range could be for the licenses, but the TLG have NEVER tapped the potential. In this respect the video games are also extreeeemely frustrating, in that we get to see what might have been.

(...) I mean, in production terms a fig is just a fig, no different to any CMF.

What a dream: for each videogame a CMF series with 60 different figures... Eh, well, that would turn extreeeemely frustrating when starting the touch-searching the bags'

This week I saw two of the SUPERHERO movies.

Tuesday I watched MAN OF STEEL, the movie had a pretty well done start but ended up pretty flat. It maches the outcome of the designed LEGO sets - not very interesting set- and figurewise (imo).

Today I watched THOR - the dark world and I imagined 30 great sets LEGO could have made from that movie and 20 minifigures I would love to get.

I personally think LEGO picked the wrong movie and licence!

^ Are you saying the THOR movie isn't covered in the whole marvel deal TLG currently has? D'oh!

I had assumed it was an all-inclusive deal, and that we'd be getting some tie-in sets for all the marvel hero movies, building on the avengers resurgence.

    Wow.

A whole bunch of 'what can we do with same-y superman', while no Thor at all is... just... daft.

We got "Thor and the cosmic cube". Now we don't now how well steel-man sells. But I don't find it daft @legomatt to state that a scifi-viking theme has potential and a great licence to build on.

I think @legomatt is saying that not getting any sets for Dark World is daft. He was agreeing with you.

    No worries @icey117

Yes i was in full agreement with you. It's staggeringly short-sighted that they won't be making any Thor tie-in sets, building on the resurgent popularity of the avengers characters, but choose instead to make three man of steel sets (which were all basically variants of the same set anyway) devoid of inspiration or following as that franchise is (comparatively speaking)

The choice between releasing sets based on Man of Steel or Thor: The Dark World would never have come up, because those are two entirely separate licenses. Obviously when the LEGO Group was planning Super Heroes sets for 2013, Marvel/Disney said they wanted sets based on Iron Man 3 and Ultimate Spider-Man, and DC/Warner Bros. said they wanted sets based on Batman and Man of Steel. There were only so many sets to go around for either company.

The decision to go with Iron Man 3 instead of Thor: The Dark World could be chalked up to any number of reasons, but I think one huge difference is that one was released as a summer blockbuster and the other was released later in the year. Perhaps merchandise for summer films just tends to sell better. Alternatively, perhaps Marvel just considers Iron Man a more marketable character than Thor. It wouldn't be a huge surprise to me if both of those are the case.
  • icey117icey117 Member Posts: 510
@aanchir And I assumed that once Lego buy a franchise, they decide themselves. Maybe not! It is a hard call for LEGO I guess, what will hit and miss. They miss the initial oportunity for LOTR and POTC, but jumped on Prince of Persia and the Lone Ranger - movies that couldn't fail - but still didn't catch fire. Now - Superman is the king of superheroes, while Thor used to be a detail.
  • icey117icey117 Member Posts: 510
I am properly not representative for main steam opinion - but I am slowly getting a bit fed up with the many predictable superhero movies. The Thor universe, characters and storyline offers a twist to the whole hero-genre that is refreshing. And the movies are well written and executed.
  • legomattlegomatt Member Posts: 2,543
    @Aanchir

Yes, I see what you're saying. (It becomes more a capacity issue for Lego, and to meet any contractual obligations with marvel (if any exist) would have been to produce thor:tdw or iron-man 3). I don't think the license holder would tell Lego not to produce merchandise that promotes one of their characters/films though, rather Lego would most likely be the one who chose not to take out an option they had on a character (in this case, on thor).

But all this aside, which wasn't really what i meant to talk about at all. I simply expected Lego to make some Thor sets, based (mistakenly) on my belief that the existing license agreements they had with Marvel covered the new films, and merely meant to express my surprise that there won't be any after all.

In fact, I meant to say nothing more complicated than this:

    No Thor:Dw sets. Really? Huh.

    Sorry for double post;
I cut out a whole chunk of text before posting above, and it's left my above post not making a heap of sense. So please nobody quote me or correct me on license deals. I know. It's a confused sounding post due to bad editing at 5am.

What's the subject? Ah yes, Superheroes 2014. GO!

hadn't seen those, thanks. that cap set looks great - good looking red skull, different cap, and neat hydra soldier.
  • korkor Member Posts: 392
    Wow Mary Jane looks horrible.
  • DarthcarlosDarthcarlos Member Posts: 13
Cool new minifigs! New Captain America. New Thor? Hopefully. Red Skull and Hydra agent look good. Nice to have more bad guys. I like Mary Janes T-shirt. I don't know much about Power Man but I will happily add him to my collection. I hope we get a new version of Spider Man too.
  • CircleKCircleK Member Posts: 1,055
I don't get it. I was die hard Marvel growing up, but when it comes to Lego I really like the DC stuff (mainly Batman - I know) and find the Marvel sets to be just meh... The new stuff isn't looking too promising either.
  • jonnythunder3483jonnythunder3483 Member Posts: 17
I like the figs! The Red Skull looks brilliant, as does the HYDRA Agent. Classic Captain America variant, awesome! The Cap face looks a bit strange to me, a little bit off, but that's probably just me.
Mary Jane is kind of boring (but at least there's a new female face!) and Power Man is a little dull but they look exactly like their video game versions (as do Cap, Red Skull, and HYDRA Agent) which I think is a good sign.

I think since they're releasing some of the minifigs from the game that means they could release others that are just like the game figures, and I really hope they do.
  • andheandhe Member Posts: 3,943
I may be wrong, but the Captain America figs look very similar to some customs that are currently sold.

I actually dislike the superhero SETS equally across both brands, but I do feel like the Marvel figures are much more varied and better in general. But again, there's not a single set that I've purchased because I think, "Wow! What a great set!" For me personally, this is a trend that's permeating all of the licensed lines at this point (which I find more than a little troubling).
  • GoldchainsGoldchains Member Posts: 795
Most of the Superhero sets are a little bland I agree, but there are a few that are stellar. The Arkham Asylum set is awesome, and I really enjoy the Joker's Funhouse Escape. Also the Iron Man/War Machine/Adrian Killian set is good, because the boat is extremely nice(I mean, how many boats do we get? Especially in those colors?).

BTW, I think she is supposed to have the blue jeans and Power Man is supposed to have the black pants.

If that is supposed to be WW2 Captain America, then that is good.

I wouldn't be surprised if all the 2014 Marvel minifigs we are getting look exactly like their game counterparts. Falcon, Electro, Thor (Classic), Taskmaster, MODOK, etc.

I wonder what the GoTG and the X-men minfigs will look like. Those right now are the most interesting for me.

i think personally the Batman sets are more appealing do to the fact that Batman, uses Vehicles, he has no super powers....so buying his Car,Boat,Plane,Cave....is the normal...where as other superheros, their shtick is powers....so Lego has to Brainstorm to give you playsets and Vehicles that are relevant.....you get a boat with Ironman and War Machine......Superman has a car to throw at someone.Daily Bugle was a nice set for Spiderman to star in but on the flip side we get,SpiderGliders...and SpiderCars...and..........):
  • Bosstone100Bosstone100 Member Posts: 1,431
The way I see it... you buy expensive minifigs and get free parts. Who is really buying the sets for the buildings/vehicles?
    y2joshvitreolum
  • chuckpchuckp Member Posts: 684
^ I totally agree. To me, the Quinjet set is really the only one I wanted specifically for the vehicle. If you took out Black Widow and the circle arc reactor Iron Man and replaced them with generic SHIELD agents, I would still buy it. I don't think I could say the same about most of the Batman sets if you took out the Batman variants and replaced them with generic Joker goons.

So regarding the prelims for the Spiderman sets, in the Electro one and the Spidercopter pictures, Spidey has a regular blue torso with blue arms, and regular blue legs. However in the Doc Ock set, he has a red torso, and dark blue arms and legs. My only guess for this is that it's the SDCC variant, or something close, which would mean we'd have an ASM2 variant.

The newly released images of the upcoming marvel sets have truly satisfied me. Especially Electro and Red Skull, these are two figures who I feel are a must have for any Marvel collection. I'm not too sure on Mary Jane! Power man is another great figure to have, and M.O.D.O.K. And hopefully the Hulk set will be cheaper so we get a chance to grab Hulk before his price rockets. Maybe classic Thor could of been made, but if that's my only fault then I'm pretty happy.
  • vitreolumvitreolum Member Posts: 1,406
These are terrible. Not even that excited about the minifigs.
  • vwong19vwong19 Member Posts: 1,191
Can't wait! Captain America vs Hyrda looks awesome. It will be a pain to army build hydra soldiers though unless they somehow appear in polybags in the future. I am a little disappointed that Electro is not the classic green and gold, but I guess it would be too similar to Iron Fist. I love that we are getting comic versions of Thor, Cpt America, Falcon and Doc Oc. MJ is perfect with the Spidey t-shirt... Better than generic red head female that could be anyone. Wouldnt have dreamed of getting MODOK and Taskmaster... Need some yellow AIM scientist and SHIELD agents eventually.

I like the 4 upcoming marvel vehicles set, but the playset in Hulk Lab Smash is just a pile of bricks going straight into the sorting bin.

That Hydra tank is losing by a hair. Upon hearing the set description I imagined something the actual set is looking like a thrown-against-the-wall version of it. Tired of putting dull sets on wishlist only because of the minifigures.
