Anyone know if LOTR will continue with new sets in 2014?
  • dougtsdougts Member Posts: 4,110
^ the early rumors seem to be no, but obviously the Hobbit will continue with movie 2 sets in Dec '13/Jan '14, and presumably movie 3 sets in Dec '14/Jan '15
  • prevereprevere Member Posts: 2,923
So maybe a trickle of sets here and there, without a full-fledged "wave" per se. I bet we get the same thing with POTC for the next movie.
  • Farmer_JohnFarmer_John Member Posts: 2,405
Ugh! Another POTC movie? Johnny Depp is going to have real wooden teeth (accented with gold) by the time they get done with this series...

Got a chance to pick up Speedorz for EUR 5 each, is it worth it? Will they sell on Christmas?

I doubt it. Two problems with these sets are their weight and they are bulky. Which means expensive postage costs, which means little profit on a low RRP set.

True, it's only worth it if I sell them as bulk or locally. I'll pick only a few for diversity.
  • HardradaHardrada Member Posts: 439
Some might be good for parting out. As for selling them sealed, I'd also only buy a few for diversity at max.

Over here retailers take turns doing buy 1, get 2 sales on speedorz.
  • vitreolumvitreolum Member Posts: 1,406
Same here, they usually have buy one get two but even that way the price is ~EUR 8.5. Right now a mall is closing and they have a shitload of these for sale at this price. And they're not selling at this price either. :))

Looking through the Christmas catalogue that arrived this morning, I notice that they show off 4 of the 5 current modulars on pp48-49. No FB. Does this mean it is FINALLY going??

I wondered the same thing. Or maybe it is a bluff to shift more sets to resellers before Xmas :-)

^^ No. It means nothing. Sets have been missing from the catalogue before and yet go on and on.

#9468 Vampyre Castle and #9464 Vampyre Hearse now show as retired on [email protected] UK
  • Gavin83Gavin83 Member Posts: 251
Do you mean US? It's still showing as available to me in the UK.
  • LegobutterflyLegobutterfly Member Posts: 488
No I meant UK, I searched for the hearse to order one and it says add to bag but will not add and then when you actually click into it it says retired set?
  • stevemackstevemack Member Posts: 934
Theres 2 varieties showing on UK [email protected]?? Never seen that before! Go to the Vampyre castle page then you'll see 2 options in a drop down box!
  • LegobutterflyLegobutterfly Member Posts: 488
Just checked again and there are two product codes for this, one retired one not yet both pictures of products are identical. Confused?!

@stevemack, just noticed for the hearse. Have never seen this before either. I have tried accessing from main theme page too and says retired but then as you say if you select the other from the drop down box it says add to bag.

At least it looks as though I can still order one anyway :)
  • prevereprevere Member Posts: 2,923
Mad Scientist is call to check for the US site. Vampyre Castle still available. Sink your teeth into it while you can!

I have been torn on MH to be honest. I like the figures and whatnot, but aside from HH Im just not that interested at the prices that were there for the sets, even the castle.

I guess another set forgotten about during EOL discussions, at least recently, has been Kingdoms Joust, is this on its way out this holiday?

FB is retiring at the end of the year, along with the mini-modulars. All the other modulars are staying.

B-wing & Winter Village Cottage are also on the way out.

^Lol. Finally, someone with some well-documented information. I can safely load up on FB without worry now that it's confirmed to EOL at year end!

There's plenty of other stuff but those are the four exclusives. The Lone Ranger and Galaxy Squad are both getting a short shelf-life and will also be going at the end of the year. Monster Fighters too, except for the Haunted House.

Random, but does anyone have a sense of when the Gungan Sub #9499 is going to be discontinued? I would like to pick it up but keep waiting for a low price. Decided that $50 was my target and Amazon gets close but not quite there (missed when it did dip below). Thanks.
  • gmpirategmpirate Member Posts: 1,654
The Gungan Sub was discounted to $40 this summer at Walmart.
  • BumblepantsBumblepants Member Posts: 7,634
^^it should be out the door by the years end/until stock runs out, no way that set hangs around another year.

Was that an online price? If it was an in-store clearance, problem is that I don't seem to get any of those great clearance prices here in metro DC.

#10212 seems to be averaging around $390 - $400 on ebay (with some recent sales around $300-350. Expecting this to go much higher this holiday season? I got mine for under $200 so I'd be perfectly happy to double my money and clear out my attic in my only reselling foray to date.

There is a guy that is buying all the Imperial Shuttles that he can get his hands on at or around $400 USD. I don't know what that is all about unless he is planning on cornering the market.

  • hoyatableshoyatables Member Posts: 873
I hadn't put that together. Well, I am happy to sell him both of mine. May just try to reach out to him.

I can give you his eBay name in an IM

Hmm this seems to be a familiar theme in the secondary market these days. Quite interesting. One big buyer of 41999 has just become a picker so head on over to read some fun comments (or sell your 41999's lol).

Two questions: What's a "picker" and head over to where?

EDIT: NM, I think I figured it out.

Never mind he was banned within 15 mins. Apparently the board with the stock ticker gets offended when folks get together to discuss how to make some $$$....talk about mixed signals lol.

^^No big bang reference, or at least not intentionally. It simply did not cross my mind that the setters part was as in brick-set-ters, instead I devised the connection that pickers ~ Carcassonne: Hunters and Gatherers (other board game) and thus us were related to Catan, then I realized that I was being stupid. But now that I think it twice, there is a fair amount of trading going on here, so it was not entirely moot.

Spent about 3 minutes with the pickers and had to retreat... Just couldn't bring myself to waster anymore of my life.
