Well, Just trying to say that we reaching our limit on how many rocks and tree's we need for our LEGO Middle Earth now. :-)
"three minifigures in the set: two orcs and some sort of soldier. There is also a grey rock. – ~$26.99"
This will probably retail for ~EUR 30 in Europe, I hope that's a BIG rock and includes some new orcs. Otherwise three MF's and some gray parts for that amount is insane.
Smaug has been created as a largely dark/black colour from what I recall from the hobbit movie.
It'll probably look a lot like a dementor/black rider fig, with possibly a grey pointy 'crown' head piece (unless cowled).
But in the books (well, the appendices, anyway), it's Sauron himself, aka The Necromancer, that inhabits Dol Guldur. The Witch-king was presumably still in Minas Morgul at the time, which he and the other Nazgûl had occupied for ~900 years before the events in The Hobbit.
A week and a half ago something drove me to write this rather long (and perhaps dreary) comment on The Hobbit on this thread:

So yes please! Give us sets with Elven armies; dwarf armies, orc/goblin armies, a battle pack with lake town soldiers. More battle packs with elves, and orcs, etc. A Beorn minifig & articulate Beorn bear, Warg size hogs! A Galadriel minifigure. Various versions of Sauron a.k.a. the necromancer. More LOTRsets. More rocks! More trees! More middle earth....more, more, more......
ps.
Really curious what is set to happen in Dol Guldur in the second Hobbit film, as I do not recall it being a location of much importance in the book. Since, according to these rumours, there appear to be two future Hobbit Lego sets bearing Dol Guldur in their respective titles!?
I just watched this clip (which I am not sure is part of the extra's on my 3D blueray 4 disc version of The Hobbit) on youtube, in which Peter Jackson also confirms what you just wrote:
Yeah I am definitely looking forward to watching the upcoming Hobbit movie in an IMAX theatre, aswell as getting a real glimpse of all the new Hobbit/LOTR Lego sets to come.

Although this may be a poor quality image you can get an idea of the sets which IMO from what I can tell look really good :-D
Dol Guldur Ambush (79011)
Beorn
Gunbadad Orcs (2x)
Mirkwood Elf Army (79012)
Thranduil
Elves (3x)
Orcs (2x)
Lake Town Chase (79013)
Bilbo
Thorin
Bard
The Master of Lake Town
Guardsman
Dol Guldur Battle (79014)
Gandalf
Radagast
The Necromancer
Azog – identical to SDCC 2013 version
Gunbadad Orcs (2x)
I am really excited to get Thranduil. Hope he has his fabulous twiggy crown. Sounds like a new style orc for variety. Wonder if Beorn will be in his man or bear format? Hope the elves are in battle armor. If the Azog is exactly the same there is going to be some early buyer remorse.....
Hopefully I keep my cat Radagast from chewing on the minifig of his namesake.
Aah that is wonderful news.
Thanks for the links!
Looks like the 'Mirkwood Elf Army' (79012) set also includes a brown warg. Very nice!
And how weird is it that I mentioned brown wargs back in August on this thread - and lo and behold, there IS a brown warg in the Mirkwood Elf army set! (I must be some kind of person who can read into the future (not) :-P )
Time to start my 2014 spend planning! :-D
Other than that, I'm pretty pleased with the minifig selection here. Now if I could just somehow get Eowyn and the Witch King to show up for no reason, I'd be completely content with the minifig side of the line.
Minifigwise these sets are fantastic, even though the pictures are too small to make out all the details, I am very happy with Radagast and all the other new additions. Yet, there is still so much ground to cover with regard to all the Hobbit/LOTR characters which still need to be made into minifigs. Ever since I played the Lego LOTR video game I really hope to see all those characters from that game someday also appear in real Lego sets. And why not!? As with the superhero Lego, it is also what keeps Lego rolling out new and different sets from their factories, with an ever expanding universe of superheroes and villains. I want much more middle-earth turned into Lego.
*keeps fingers crossed*
We are supposed/rumored to get "Lego the Movie" CMF line and "Simpsons" CMF line. How about a LoTR/Hobbit CMF line to fill in the rest of the characters if they don't want to release another LoTR set wave.
Faramir
Eowyn
Witch King
Denethor
Dunedain Ranger
Gondor Soldier *Army Builder*
Merry in Rohan armor
Pippin in Gondor armor
Sauron
Galadriel
Celeborn
Pukel-man
Tom Bombadil
Goldberry
Barliman Butterbur
Prince Imrahil
There sixteen (16) all selected for TLG with a range of types; noble, comic, male, female, short minifig, regular minifig. Army builders to drive extra buys. Honestly, TLG should just send me a big check right now for the idea. Better yet, they can just pay me in free figs ;-)
Yeah, so a new mold for an elk/moose, could also be used for the wintervillage, and other themes (city, castle, other 'adventure' themes).
A LOTR/Hobbit CMF series would be nice too. Love to see all the characters you mentioned in Lego form. But I am getting somewhat CMF weary. The last CMF line (series 11) is (to my knowledge) still not available in most regular Lego selling toyshops in The Netherlands, which is utterly preposterous! From what I heard they weren't going to release them at all in NL. I like the CMF's very much, but if only you could just buy the ones you really want instead of having to deal with these 'mystery' bags, and the fact that some (not seldom the not so desirable ones) are very numerous while others very rare. I much rather see TLC do something similar for the Hobbit/LOTR, they did with the Kingdoms line, namely: battle packs!
Check these out, and tell me that that is not a superb formula!
#852921-1
#852922-1
Or the ones they did for the preceding castle line:
#852701-1
#852702-1
(if for some reason the links don't work properly, just copy/paste the set-numbers in the search function on brickset.com itself.
Or else more sets like the Uruk-hai army set #9471
That is such a good army builder set, if you are in to that sort of thing.
I hope that the rescheduling of the Hobbit movies gave them enough time to put together a 3rd wave. (Though if the theme is not a great seller then they might not bother.)
