Actually, I'm perfectly fine with a 2k AT-AT, as long as it's properly designed and uses clever techniques to avoid the need for more parts. The other AT has 782 parts (I won't compare it to the motorized one, since a shitload of parts there are used for the movement mechanism) so it would be a massive improvement.

    Something Hoth based?

I would still be hoping for 3000+ pieces with a UCS AT-AT. The thing needs to be approx. twice as tall as 8129, which effectively means it needs to be 8 times the size (voluminous). 8129 had 815 pieces. Bigger models mean using bigger parts where you can of course. If it had ½ the piece count density but was effectively 8 times the size, you’d still want it to have about 3300 parts. The set could be comparable to SSD in piece count/pricing within current pricing guidelines. I do agree that the At-AT would be one of the more delicate models out there in terms of tippability.

A 2000 piece count set would most likely be rubbish for one of 2 reasons:-

    1. They get the model the size it should be (minifig scale), but it would be so sparse of detail, it would look no more detailed than a system set.
    2. They get the detail right, but can’t scale the size up appreciably with so few parts to work with.

Haha. Well that had the complete opposite effect of what I was intending!

Ucs slave-1 from my source and not legoboy for sept/oct as for may id gi with a c3po or tiefighter
  • dougtsdougts Member Posts: 4,110
Honestly slave 1 makes a ton of sense. Right size to do at $200 price point without cutting too many corners. Can throw in minifigures to increase the appeal if desired

    ^^ I would love a 3PO to go with R2.
There was talk about a Halo product, a UCS 3PO in scale with R2, in chrome would be pretty breathtaking and likely seriously expensive.

Slave1 is the best choice, but what about a twin-pod cloud car?

    Thanks for the update.

Slave 1 yes please!! Tie fighter yes please!! C-3P0 not so much.

Brickbuilt UCS C3PO would surely be one hell of a challenge to make so it doesn't suck. Also it would need to be almost twice as tall as c3po, I don't really see that happening.

C´mon they can´t even get us a chrome R2 dome, so it´s more than unlikely that we´ll see a chromed out 3PO ;)

I too know about the Slave 1 for next year. and from a reliable source. Probably in the latter part of next year.

May won't be a C3PO or tiefighter though although a chromed C3PO would be nice.

I have also heard solid rumors of a Slave 1. Unfortunately I have heard nothing about a AT-AT in 2014.

I have difficulty imagining a chrome C3P0 looking all that good, especially at a size compatible with R2. But if they pull it off somehow that would be really cool. would make for an excellent display together that even my wife might get excited about having in the house.

Slave 1 would be cool. Maybe even with a new mold for the canopy? Pretty-pretty-please?
  • sschmotzsschmotz Member Posts: 25
I've been wanting to see a large sized AT-AT for what seems like a while. It would be a somewhat of a let down if it isn't next year, but maybe that means it would be even better if it shows up the following year. Happy to hear the Slave rumors though for next fall.

Based on that poster, wouldn't it HAVE to be an AT-AT? I can't imagine a Sandcrawler remake... and there's really no reason to do another Death Star at this point... so that leaves the AT-AT as the only 'debatable' UCS.

So are we thinking minifig scale for slave 1 or some other scale? (either is fine with me).
  • hantothantot Member Posts: 284
^ TIE Collection includes a TIE fighter too
  • monkeyhangermonkeyhanger Member Posts: 3,170
Any bigger than true minifig scale for Slave I and it would be huge.

With @cavegod's statement on the Slave-1 and what's due for May-release, I must proclaim next year's UCS selection will be great! Very excited for 2014 now =D

So... sounds like it's definitely an AT-AT, though between the $400 price point and the general love for @cavegod's version... there may be a lot of disappointed folks. At least on this forum, anyway.

^ Chrome Han Solo. In carbonite, of course. :)

I think there will be a few disappointed, thought not because of an AT-AT being released.
I personally will be very happy, like @BrickDancer.

I pretty much guarantee that there will be an AT-AT or Slave 1 next year since I just built Cavegod's and Anio's versions of them. The Palace Cinema was announced a few months after I built my own modular theater so I think it is gonna be a trend. =)

Well May is not an ATAT, it isn't a Slave 1, it isn't a Tie Fighter nor a C3PO either. It's not another x-wing or a Snowspeeder. It hasn't got 12000 parts and it's not a Jar Jar Banks.

    It is $400/£250.

How about Slave 1: Ultimate Bounty Hunter Edition? Tricked out with all the Fett Snr and Jnr mods, complete with all ESB bounty hunters and of course the swarthy Fetts. Minifig 4-Lom anybody?

It's not Cloud City, either... which would only leave the Sandcrawler and Death Star as 'debatable.' So if everything you say is true, that means the only two options are both very odd... with the Death Star being the more likely of the two... though still a very strange choice.

Surely not a Death Star at the same price point as the current. No room for upgrading it. I throw my wager down as Sandcrawler and tack on a second bet of at least 200 posts debating whether they ripped off the Cuusoo project or not.

I love @cavegod's version as much as most, but anyone who thought LEGO would even consider releasing a production set anywhere near that size/piece count was smoking crack to begin with. Anyone disappointed because the AT-AT being would be inferior to his version only has themselves to blame for having such unrealistic expectations in the first place

That's a directive from TLG, they have grave fears that if you knew you would create an awesome MOC that would out shine the official set. :p

Although the Sandcrawler did well on Cuusoo, the "brown box" doesn't seem to be as popular here. At a $400 price point, I'm imaging something that is obviously a large piece count and more play set oriented with lots of minifigs, maybe even open up like the HH. With that said, back to back play sets is something that doesn't interest this AFOL.
