The never ending TRU shenanigans at work once again.
  • pumbaughpumbaugh Member Posts: 23
All my purchases, both in store and online have been credited properly. It takes a good day or two for them to post.
  • BrickarmorBrickarmor Member Posts: 1,258
I made 5 orders all at once in late September, 2 were credited, 3 were not, but the rate at which the 2 were credited is 1%, not 10%! I'll be talking to the store manager this afternoon, so we'll see what he says. Besides "NO."

Here's a sentence verbatim from the 10% back promo terms:
"Total spend between $0.01 - $49.99 at the end of the promotion period will automatically be rounded up to a $5 promotional gift card."

    :-?

And there was some confusion elsewhere as to whether CMF11 were "Hot Price" and thus excluded from other sales, but I can say for sure that at my store they were $3.19 and included in the BOGO40, making them about $2.70 each including tax.
  • pumbaughpumbaugh Member Posts: 23
They are offering retro-credit requests as usual. Even states so in their terms for the promo. The normal button is still there on my Rewards screen for the retro-credit request. Where do you see that spend a penny line and get a 5$ giftcard line at? I browsed the terms I could find and did not see that, but does not mean I did not miss it.

I would probably hit up TRU online/corporate about the rewards R us issues. I do not think a store manager would be able to do much to help you.
  • BrickarmorBrickarmor Member Posts: 1,258
They fixed it in store for me by "returning" the items and then ringing them up again. So I'll check my page tomorrow and see if they're added and if the percentage is fixed. And the retro-credit thing is fixed now, it was giving me an error message earlier.

The terms I quoted from are here:

It never ceases to amaze me what goofy shenanigans TRU is up to in a given week whether it be their wacky 'sales' or just general sloppiness.
  • pharmjodpharmjod Member Posts: 2,916
I think most of it is general sloppiness. I know when I worked there years ago sloppiness was rampant.
  • augenaugen Member Posts: 317
The girl on the check out at Owings Mills, MD, refused to price match against Amazon as it says "By Lego" so she said that it wasn't being sold by Amazon. She was still reluctant to do it when I pointed out where it said "sold by Amazon".
  • margotmargot Member Posts: 2,308
I think they price match shop.lego.com too. They have for me. They so hate to price match, it's funny. I've had them make a lot of faces when I had them price match TRU.com... it's hilarious.
  • augenaugen Member Posts: 317
That was my experience too. I heard her say to her manager in a resentful tone that Amazon prices are so much cheaper.

Wait wait wait. Are you saying TRU is not honoring their wording? Next you'll be saying that "ALL LEGO" to them doesn't really mean "ALL LEGO."

I dunno why people justify TRUs practices by buying at TRU.
All it does is validate that they can do what they do and get away with it.
That and I should not have to pull teeth to get something price matched. I dunno about you, but if I see someone looking in pain when this is mentioned at a store, I will stop going to that store.
I do not see such painful expressions asking for a price match at Best buy or Target.
They simply assist me and I am out the door.
TRU does not get much business from me unless I really have no other option anymore (mostly for polybags that are TRU exclusive now)
If you have to actually plan out your discounts, or weave through all of their fine print to get something accomplished then I do not see the ends justifying the means.

I dunno why people justify TRUs practices by buying at TRU.

I only go in there for polybags and cmfs. I happened to decide to pull the trigger on the Vampyre Castle because it was in the $80s at TRU.com and out of stock everywhere else at that price, plus I was getting a freebie with it. Not that I need to justify my buying to you .
Also got minifigs at 2.99 instead of 3.19 and I was buying several.
eta- and the #41999 at $179 was nice too...

I agree. It is just too much work to shop and there and get any kind of price break with their prices above normal US retail on most sets. And it hearts my ears and eyes hearing and reading about how difficult it is to deal with them.

I did make a stop for the Geoffrey polybag #40077 yesterday in their Cary, NC, store, and they had it at $4.99US each. I took four to the register, and lo and behold, did get 40 per cent off the second of each pair! So they averaged $3.99 without the 7 per cent sales tax.

Built it with family last night, and it is just adorable! The ears can moved up and down for so many cute poses, and you have to smile when you look at it. Makes me ill to see what they ask for it on eBay.

I did not think the yellow and orange color combo would be so cute, but it is simply wonderful! Way to go, LEGO!

As long as we're on the TRU subject...the deal now is B1G1 40% off...last year there was a B1G1 50% off in October...anyone know if that'll happen this year?..or is 40% off 1 set the best it'll get?
  • margotmargot Member Posts: 2,308
I think they had BOGO 50% off a few weeks ago didn't they?
  • scotty12scotty12 Member Posts: 837
You might well be right....but I try and avoid that place like the plague...unless I need a poly.

You do not have to justify it, and I never said you had too either.
I just think that the more people in general play TRUs game then the more TRU thinks it is OK to keep playing it

Today they agreed to price match a Constitution Train, then said I couldn't get the promo...said it was forfeit because of the price match. Anyone else have this issue?

They said the same to me. The T's & C's state that the price match is after promotions and discounts have been applied.

I had the an interesting PM adventure at TRU. I bought #40077 with BOGO40 and the 15% off on tru.com with store pickup. They were $5.99 on line.
I went to the store to pickup them up, and they were $4.99 in store. On my way out, I let the guy at the CS desk know. He was a supervisor and told me he can adjust it now and he will also try to keep the 15% off even though that has expired.
I could see he was getting upset with the PM system, scan and re-scan the polys and then refunded me what seems like too much money. I told him it was not correct and he told me I have waited long enough and he was OK with it. I end up paying $2.49 for each of the polys.

I don't know if I would call this an issue. I consider the concept of a price match to be a switch of "rules" from one company to another. TRU matches Amazon, then suddenly you don't get the perks that you would at TRU if you bought via their rules. Same with BOGOs, polys, other freebies, etc. As a logical person, I don't think that you should be able to stack both. As a consumer, I totally think you should be able to stack both.

@tensor - I tend to agree with you. But TRU can be so screwy, I didn't know if anyone had been successful with price matching and then still getting the promo. If so, I know my local TRU folks well enough that I could at least cite the example and maybe get somewhere. They have commented on how much less I have been buying there over the last 2 years.

I keep track of what I spend and where. I spent over $5k at TRU in 2010 (not bragging or anything, just stating a fact), this year, to date I have spent less than $500. All of that was on polys and CMFs. There must be a lot of uneducated soccer moms out there plunking down 20% over RRP to make that business model work!

^Disregard the link, it won't let you add them to the cart anymore.

I price matched at TRU today and then the bricktober mini figures would not scan as free. They weren't sure if it was because of the price match or because they only had last week's Bricktober set which wouldn't scan correctly, but they sold it to me for $0.01 because they seemed sure it should be included.

Helped several people get price matches at TRU over the last couple of days. It's been very satisfying. One lady hugged me today. :-) They have been price matching Amazon no problem.

I'm trying to decide if the Bug Obliterator (on sale for $50) + 6 Robin Polybags + Free minig set for $80 is a good deal or not. Seems about as good as it might get for Toysrus :)
  • margotmargot Member Posts: 2,308
I was glad you posted this because that's pretty much what I bought, except that I thought I was getting a good deal with an Amazon price match for $53.54, went back today and they refunded me the $3 plus dollars. :-) Who would have thought to check TRU.com for a price match?!!!
