  I guess it would be possible to do this in the notes. If it were possible to query substrings of the notes field, then a person could kludge this feature on their own using the old iTunes hack of sticking something like "vendor=amazon" into it.

  Obviously I wasn't thinking of having a public table. Jeez. The notes in the ACM aren't publicly viewable, right? All I was thinking of was extending the table with a few useful fields.

  ^ And adding a third status: Owned / Wanted / Ordered. Even Basebrick has that.

  I guess the ACM could be expanded and notes searchable made, which then makes it more generic in its application.
  
  Display of notes is going to be improved on the new version of the site, which I should have ready for demonstrating the core functionality of, in a week or so.

  Should you ever decide to implement parts as first class entities for the user, having a searchable notes field also provides the user with a kludgy way of adding the kind of metadata tags I was talking about in item #3 of the Parts database suggestions.
  
  A person could mark a part with something like "moc=Godzilla" or "loc=basement" or "collection=Siercon" or whatever else they might need in the way of metadata tags.
  
  The problem with this method of kludging a tagging feature (as opposed to building a table) is that the user is up against the constraints of the field length... which is maybe OK, but the more tags you enter, the greater the danger of running out of space. Experienced iTunes users have seen this kind of thing before. It's what we do to compensate for it not providing a true relational database, but it's limited.

  Is the fact that you have it on order important enough to you really that you'd want to update your brickset status of it for the < week time frame that it would take for you to get it?

  It depends on how many orders you've got going on at once. If we ever get first-class parts, this will become even more helpful, especially for people that use atxdad's tool to optimize order splits. Right now I keep track of this kind of thing in Excel, but if it were all integrated in one place, it would be less onerous.

  I use the ACM location field to mark stuff as in transit, if I ever need to search it I export the ACM to Excel and use that to do it. Sure it's not the most seamless, but for me its perfectly acceptable for the amount of times I need to do it.
