Jambalaya Box #4 & 5

jadedancjadedanc Member Posts: 1,302
I am willing to start these by mid-Sept, earlier if I get 8 people but there are a few new rules. Limited to 8 people per box, mailed in a list order. Also please if you do sign up, do NOT keep box longer than 1 week. Box 3 is still floating around a year later lol

Welcome to the thread for the 2013 US-Jambalaya Boxes 4 or 5! Borrowed the explanation of a jambalaya box from one typed so very eloquently by @rocao (ALOT better than I could ever do and I can up with the idea lol)

Let's use this thread for status updates and discussing logistics. The original thread where @jadedanc brought forward the idea can be found here: http://www.bricksetforum.com/discussion/3988/lego-round-robin/p1

What: A box of LEGO will progress through our list of participants, one stop at a time. The box will be a mixed assortment of elements (thus, jambalaya!) and presumably the more variety we have in there, the better, as it will better suit the diversity of our members and the various applications of our LEGO hobby.

Who: So far we have 2, so plenty of room to join! Even if you've participated before, you are welcome to join again! New to the group, you too may join. :)

    Jambalaya Box #4
    1. jadedanc WA
    2. DNeul MO

If your state is not shown correctly on this list, please PM me. Also, if you have a reasonable request to move spots in this list, let me know.

How: I'll start the box and fill a standard sized USPS shipping box (actual one TBD). I'll mail it to the next person on the list. From that point forward, the process should be:

    1. Take receipt of the box (do happy dance)
    2. Inform the group the box has been received.
    3. PM the next person for their address if you haven't already
    4. Withdraw desired parts. At this point there is no hard-fast rule how much this is. Let's just say "If there's a lot of good stuff, don't take it all" and see if a practical guideline springs forth.
    5. Photograph your haul. Share it with the group.
    6. Choose parts from your inventory that you are adding to the box. It should be roughly equivalent to what you withdraw. Some instances should be easy to match, i.e. polybag for polybag, minifig for minifig.
    7. Photograph what you are adding. Keep this to yourself so you don't ruin the surprise, but I think keeping a record of this will keep things on the up and up.
    8. Send the box to the next person on the list.

Questions, comments, any glaring omissions? Let me know...

Why: The idea of the exchange is similar to a parts draft in that one person's trash is another person's treasure. While I wouldn't go so far as to say any LEGO is trash, hopefully it will transpire that our bricks find their ways into the hands of appreciative owners. At the end of the day, the shipping costs probably don't justify the parts that one comes away with, so ultimately, this is about having fun, getting to know other members, and strengthening our community.

Well, would anyone like to join from the UK?? I would be willing to mail it over to ya'll first and let it make the rounds over there if there would be one willing to mail it back to this side of the pond? Anyone?

Well, I had figured 8 spots but IF I don't hear from anyone over the holiday weekend, I will get these out next week. The mailing orders will be changed between the two boxes since we have the same peoples :)

Post pics of what you put in and take out as the jambalaya box makes its way around the US of A!

I don't seem to have most of you on flickr, so join the group or PM me your name and I'll send an invite. Membership is open for now... Is everyone ok with just one group for the pics? seems like it's most of the same people.

@jadedanc did you take starting pics this time? if not can @dneul & @sirben take pics of everything in the box as well as their put in & take out pics?

    http://www.flickr.com/groups/jambox4/

Here's who i'm not sure of flickr names for and haven't been added: @DNeul @thanos75 @darkhorse @wrangler6915 @meyerc13 @Sas0214 if we're friends on flickr I apologize for not realizing o_O

  • murphquakemurphquake Member Posts: 651
@meyerc13 I found you... searched for the others except darkhorse by names on here with no luck (sorry DH, too common to guess =-)
  • jadedancjadedanc Member Posts: 1,302
@murphquake no pics this time at start :(

I just got the box from @dneul about 15min ago....wow. I feel like a kid in a candy store. I will add my stuff and mail it off in the morning.
  • SirBenSirBen Member Posts: 592
I'll get pictures of the box's contents (as received), items out & in tonight and get it on its way tomorrow.
  • murphquakemurphquake Member Posts: 651
    @dneul & @ darkhorse you're in =-)
@dneul is the big pic the full box contents plus what you added & the one with the HP trolley polybag your out pic?
  • Thanos75Thanos75 Member Posts: 1,120
    edited September 2013
I can speak for dneul on this one. The pic on the left with the HP poly is what dneul got in the box and the pic on the right with all of the stuff in baggies is what was in the box when I opened it.
  • murphquakemurphquake Member Posts: 651
I'll make notes on the flickr group... I think you're the last one who hasn't joined or been invited @thanos75
  • Thanos75Thanos75 Member Posts: 1,120
I will be taking pics tonight after the kids are in bed and will join the thingie then.
  • dneuldneul Member Posts: 369
Yes, my out pic is the hp poly and the sticker and my in pics are everything else. I did not add what was still originally in the box. Figured perhaps some mystery is good. :-)
  • Thanos75Thanos75 Member Posts: 1,120
I agree...I figured I would take a pic of what I "liberated" and a pic of what I replaced it with.
  • Thanos75Thanos75 Member Posts: 1,120
Well I tried to post some pics but it seem Flicker is down for maintenance until the morning. I will post them in the morning I guess...
  • SirBenSirBen Member Posts: 592
I also found Flickr down for maintenance, but I have photos to post tomorrow of Box 5, which is labeled to be shipped to @Sas0214 TN tomorrow (9/13).
  • jadedancjadedanc Member Posts: 1,302
Wow these are gonna make it back before box #3 does lol
  • murphquakemurphquake Member Posts: 651
ah yes, Flickr had a banner all week about maintenance tonight... think it's supposed to be back by 8am EST http://whileflickrisdown.tumblr.com/ has an archive of tweets with the #whileflickrisdown hashtag =-)
  • Thanos75Thanos75 Member Posts: 1,120
Ok...I added the pics on the flinger thing and sent the package off today. I hope I did it justice.
  • SirBenSirBen Member Posts: 592
24 hours later than planned, I've uploaded my photos from Box 5, which was shipped yesterday (9/13).

Haha wrangler6915 might end up with both boxes at the same time.
  • wrangler6915wrangler6915 Member Posts: 528
That'd be sweeeet. I actually just got done re-organizing the 300+ sealed sets and estimated 100K loose elements I have, so I came across some pretty cool stuff to include!
