Now a Cantina and CC remake would let me die happy!

Because how many buildings do we usually see from SW? Jabbas palace is the only GOOD building from whats now spun into a few years. Other ones like #75017 or #7879 are a bit rubbish unless your a minifigure or parts person rather than collector

It's more likely that Lego is running out of ideas for OT battle packs. The well's about run dry for some time now.

What about a Jawa battle pack, or Tusken Raider battle pack. We can also use a Max Rebo band pack.

Jawa battle pack? They got slaughtered by stormtroopers, the worst shots in the galaxy! Sandpeople might work though there's not much by way of variety with them.

The Max Rebo band would require lots of new molds, wouldn't really be a battle pack (what? a battle of the bands?) and would have zero multiple-purchase interest which is the basis of these things in the first place.

Wow - the planet replacements look ridiculous. Its like Duplo meets SW. I think the only one I'll be getting from that whole lot is #75034.

Not incredibly impressed by these. I like most of the models, and there are some excellent new Minifigures, but I hate the idea of new firing weapon accessories for the Minifigures.

I've been scanning the blurry pixely prelim images. Here's my gatherings.

75034 Death Star Troopers (Battle Pack)
Want to say 2 gunners, and 2 royal guards with a DS turret (not the boxy one, the other one).
    75035 Kashyyyk Troopers (Battle Pack)
2 Kashyyyk clones and 2 ARF troopers with a swamp speeder.
    75036 Utapau Troopers (Battle Pack)
    Not shown.
75037 Battle on Saleucami (Battle Pack)
2 battle droids, 2 super battle droids, Clone Commander Neyo(?)
    73038 Jedi Interceptor (Anakin's Yellow)
    ROTS Anakin and R2
    75039 V-Wing Starfighter
Like the previous release but ROTS colors. ROTS pilot and Astromech
    75040 General Grievous' Wheel Bike
    ROTS Grievous and Obi Wan
    75041 Vulture Droid
Dark blue and bley coloration. Battle droid with blue print torso, buzz droid, and Palpatine? Looks like olive green head from image.
    75042 Droid Gunship
No minifigures shown. Probably battle droids.
    75043 AT-AP
ROTS Gree, Wookie warrior, 2 battle droids and 1 super battle droid.
    75044 Droid Tri-Fighter
    Not shown.
    75045 Republic AV-7 Anti-Vehicle Cannon
    Not shown.
    75046 Coruscant Police Gunship
    Not shown.

The new "not-planet" are chibi, just like the SDCC tins and the like.

    75028 Clone Turbo Tank
    ROTS Clone Trooper
    75029 AAT
    Tan with battle droid.
    75030 Millennium Falcon
    Han Solo
    75031 TIE Interceptor
    TIE Pilot
    75032 X-Wing Fighter
    Rebel Pilot with Porkins' helmet.
    75033 Imperial Star Destroyer
    Black suit Imperial Officer
    __________________________

Highly disappointed in the OT minifigures. Why are there Royal Guards in the battle pack? If those are in fact Gunners I'll be happy, but You only ever see 4 guards at most in the films. If you have an Emperor minifig, he's always come with guards in tow, so you don't need extras. The new X-Wing pilot looks like he has Porkins' helmet, which is stupid. Give us Red Leader, Biggs... SOMEONE specific. Nice to get a cheap black suit Imperial pilot, but he could have been easily kitbashed anyway.

There's still hope for the X-Wing helmet to be different, because the minifig roster shows a generic ROTS Clone but the Turbo Tank shows a 501st, while the AAT shows a plain droid but the minifig roster shows a pilot. Perhaps not final, though there are a lot of new minifigs pictured that look finalized.

Chibi ships are fine. They don't look good, but if the price is right it'd be a cheap way to get minifigs in the future. This selection is nothing special, but maybe wave 2 will have better minifigures. I'll miss the mini ships.

No opinion of the Prequel sets. I won't get them other than maybe the Kashyyyk battle pack.

It's not Palpatine in the Vulture Droid set. it is a Neimodian warrior.

^^ there is a pic of the minifigs for 75042 Droid Gunship, In one of the pics there is a super battle droid, a battle droid, a new Chewbacca and a clone scout (the same as in Kashyyyk Troopers battle pack) and beside the figures is the number 750042.

    Man the wheelbike looks weird.
  • vitreolumvitreolum Member Posts: 1,406
That AAT is a mess. The x-wing (is that a tan wedge there in the front?) and turbo tanks are somewhat cute.

The V-wing front is still ugly, I can't quite make out that wheel bike or Grievous. Quite disappointing. Only worth for some of the minifigs, hopefully there's an improved Grievous there.

Really disappointed with the 'microfighters'. When I heard the planets were being replaced I was hoping for similar models minus the planets (something like the polybag sets).

    My brief thoughts:

#75028 - This is quite cute, and it includes a plain white Clone Trooper which is lovely.
#75029 - The AAT is a shambles really, simple as that.
#75030 - I like this model, it certainly captures the ship well, perhaps a new hairpiece for Han.
#75031 - This looks OK, but the vehicle is not very interesting in my opinion.
#75032 - The X-wing looks quite good to me, that might be a new helmet for the Rebel.
#75033 - I quite like this model too, and the figure looks nice enough.
#75034 - I like the sound of Death Star Gunners, but I do not want an army of Imperial Guards.
#75035 - I love these Kashyyyk Troopers, the camouflage looks fantastic.
#75036 - No sign of the Utapau set yet.
#75037 - This I like, a Recon Corps trooper and some Battle Droids looks good to me.
#75038 - This is a dull set I think, it would seem to simply be a recoloured version of #9494.
#75039 - This is a step back from past editions in my opinion, although I like the Minifigures.
#75040 - I am very disappointed with this set. The entire seating area for Grievous is in the wrong place outside of the ring and the Grievous figure is the same as the Clone Wars version.
#75041 - I am not a fan of the model, which is too large, although the Minifigures look nice.
#75042 - I love this set, the highlight for me. A new Chewbacca and a great Droid Gunship model!
#75043 - I like this set, although the reported price of $69.99 if far too expensive in my opinion.

Photos of the rest are absent at the moment.

I am holding out hope or those four sets which have yet to be revealed. Most of those images are very disappointing, the Wheel Bike most of all. It would be easy to place Grievous inside the ring as he should be so I have no idea why LEGO avoided doing this.
  • rancorbaitrancorbait Member Posts: 1,842
^ the printing on Grievous's face is slightly different than CW version isn't it?
  • CapnRex101CapnRex101 Administrator Posts: 2,364
^ It does look a little bit different actually. I was hoping for a new design personally, and he must have a cape I would have thought.
  • rancorbaitrancorbait Member Posts: 1,842
^ yea I was also hoping for a cape, it's to bad that they didn't include Boga to.
  • vitreolumvitreolum Member Posts: 1,406
I like the CW Grievous design, with a new head printing it will be great. But yeah, a cape would have been fantastic. And the Boga is one of the top 3 things that screams for a remake. I don't like the old one at all, I find it strange they released that thing after the dewback, which can still stand proudly next to any set of today.
  • HokieJoe99HokieJoe99 Member Posts: 351
The redesigned Chewbacca is nice and a long time coming. He is obviously the minifigure included in this set to help move it. I'll pick up one to get him, but then I'll have to get more of him otherwise which Han would the new Chewie hang out with? It just wouldn't be fair to pair up one Han the redesigned Chewie and leave the others with the old standby, and who doesn't have multiple Han's?

I'm also disappointed that there is not one Stormtrooper in the DS battle pack. It doesn't appear that there will be a Stormtrooper in this entire wave. Come on LEGO, those guys were in abundance on the Death Star. Do we really need all of those Royal Guards?

I think those are prelims and it looks in the set photo that they are currently wearing knights helmets as placeholder pieces (note that they don't have any helmets in the minifig display). I think that we will get Death Star Gunners' helmets.

My point, though, is that neither Royal Guards nor Death Star Gunners make much sense in a battle pack named Death Star Troopers. Royal Guards were present on the second Death Star, but I don't believe they were involved in any combat. Gunners were present on both Death Stars but, again, I don't recall any participating in close combat.

I suppose the set name made me think it would represent the baddies that appeared in the Death Star escape sequence in A New Hope: Stormtroopers, Death Star Troopers, and black-uniformed officers.

Considering the build portion of the set is what appears to be a turbolaser turret, I can understand why gunners are included. But the Royal Guards don't make much sense. Unless, that is, there is something coming later that they will fit into (e.g. ROTJ final duel with Emperor's throne, bottomless shaft, stairs for Luke to hide under, etc.)

The 'microfighter' sets (replacement for planet sets) look amazing for kids - really swooshable, with somewhere for a minifig to sit in them, yet small enough to be very playable. Sure, they're not to scale at all, but they're representative (think mini-modular style star-wars ships), and I'm sure will be a massive hit with the kids.

Heck, I think I even see a new mold or two to keep @caperberry happy!

Oh and yeah, new Chewy! Wish they'd brought him out in time for Ewok Village though...

@rancorbait - An Airbourne Trooper is one of these friendly looking chaps:

An airborne trooper would not carry a gun of that size. :)
  • BrickDancerBrickDancer Member Posts: 3,639
^Yes and can somebody explain what Phase or time period this new helmet is from? Never seen these in the movies or CW cartoon, but they're coming out in many versions for this year's wave.
  • CapnRex101CapnRex101 Administrator Posts: 2,364
^ They are all Phase 2 helmets. The Kashyyyk Troopers are the precursors to Imperial Scout Troopers (you may notice the similarities in helmet design) and appear throughout the Battle of Kashyyyk. Airbourne Troopers are pure conjecture on my part. An Utapau Battle Pack would be incomplete without one of those guys as they played a fairly large role in the battle.

I haven't seen the blurry images, but the minifigure in the official artwork is pretty clearly wearing Theron Nett's helmet. Which seems an odd choice in and of itself.

Those minis are perfect polybag material that I would have loved to add to my poly collection. But as boxed sets I will not get them. Talk about packing being more relevant than the contents...
  • CaptAPJTCaptAPJT Member Posts: 223
Having just seen the planet replacements I'm even more disappointed. Guess I'm just going to be waiting on the 2014 UCS models assuming we see something worthwhile on that front.

I believe the planet set replacements are called "Microfighters", 2 of them comes with mini figures.

Not sure to post any images at all, because they DO NOT have the confidential watermark on it.

    No, don't post them.
  • CaptAPJTCaptAPJT Member Posts: 223
Based on the pictures they all come with mini figs and the X-Wing has an R2 additionally. My issue is they're almost caricatures of what they're representing and having a minifig sit in/ on top adds further to that. Again it seems like we're getting the same old ships slightly reworked. How many pocket sized X-Wings do we need?
  • prof1515prof1515 Member Posts: 1,550
They all have mini-figures and are in the distorted form that is called "chibi" which is Latin for "ugly, distorted crap".

^ but as I've noted earlier, I'm absolutely certain that almost everyone slating them now would have loved them as a 6 year old. That's the market for them, and TLG will sell them like hot cakes.

This is where we see 75046 Coruscant Police Gunship in the Clone Wars episode. Could this mean new shock troopers?

Earlier on this thread I had predicted that the planets replacements might be Chibi style, and I actually quite like them. They are not perfect but what set is. I know my 5 year old will love them.

It seems TLG can't do right by everyone.
They don't make obscure ships that would look clunky in Lego and they get slated.
They do obscure ships (UCS B-wing) and get slated. (just to point out it's not obscure to me, but is to most members of the public)
They do lots of re-issues and they get slated.
They don't do re-issues and they get slated because something is not available right now and I missed it whilst I was in my dark ages.
They make amazing UCS sets and get slated for them being too expensive.
They make more reasonably sized/priced sets and they get slated for not being accurate enough.
They try something new (planets and microfighters) and get slated.
There are two simple answers here, if you don't like something don't buy it, if something is not available, make it, that is what Lego is all about after all.

Lets just hope my prediction for the UCS AT-AT in 2015 (ESB 35th anniversary) is as accurate as my Chibi prediction.

^I'm not quite sure I know what you mean by "get slated" and casual googling has failed me. From the context, I'm thinking it means something along the lines of "poo'd upon."

Anyway, I think you're a little harsh. I think some sets have been poo'd upon, and some rightfully so. Others have just as many supporters, if not more. Me, I'd like to see a decent rebel frigate done properly. Obviously they were in ESB, ROTJ and were high profile in the old X-Wing game.
