Follow-up. Ordered #41999 from S@H on August 1. Availability date supposed to be August 19. Got email from them August 6 (with tracking number) stating the #41999 had been shipped. Looks like it will be here later today.

Based on the ambassador response, it looks like more than 17,000 have already sold.

Being in back order status doesn't mean those are the very last 3000 of the 20k. What likely happened was that X number of sets were designated for S@H, and Y for LEGO stores. So they are into the last 3000 of X.

As possible proof of this, stores are expecting a restock soon and since those sets likely started their journey through the distribution chain long ago they weren't from that pool of 3000.

It's not outside the realm of possibility that LEGO is splitting the 20k into two or more production runs (i.e. 10,000 now and 10,000 later).

Sorry to move an active conversation out from under everyone, but I wanted to separate the speculative talk from this shopping thread as there will likely still be shopping discussion. You may continue the speculative discussion here: http://www.bricksetforum.com/discussion/11795/technic-in-the-aftermarket

Hope i get mine soon :D

It looks like it is in stock in quite a few places expect for here in the US.

Ended up exchanging mine at my nearby Lego store since the one I received in the mail had a big tear across the front. Odd thing was there was no polybag in the box or obvious damage to the shipping box. Luckily the store had one in stock in the back.

Just been to the Brighton Lego store, there were 4 on the shelf. Picked one up so there are only 3 now.

I'd ordered one on line on Wednesday and got an email saying they were currently out of stock and it would take longer to deliver than usual. At the same time I ordered a friends set for £9.99 and this has been dispatched together with the free ice cream stand and the mini mech.

If I now cancel the on line order for the 41999 will Lego bill me for delivery (as the friends set alone is less than the £50 required)?

    ^ Oops - wrong category.
    Sorry.
  • mooman66mooman66 Member Posts: 122
So I managed to order one today while Lego USA still indicated "ships in 30 days". We'll see if it gets canceled.
For those of you that received yours, is there anything on the outside of the box that indicates the license plate number?

Searching 41999 on lego.com and it returns "Page or Product not found" after clicking on the "Full Detail" button.

Looks like it has been completely removed from US S@H site.. not sure about globally and if this is just a simple glitch at LEGO's site

@CupIsHalfEmpty - post a picture once you have built #41999 since I haven't seen many people stating that they will actually build theirs. I'm sincerely curious to see one built since those might be the rarest sightings for the next couple of months. Cheers.

^^I know my wife has bought me one for my birthday at the end of the month. I certainly intend to build it.

Placed a part order earlier today and chatted a bit with a service rep and she said that the 41999 is officially sold out on Shop-At-Home... She said that they will NOT be producing anymore, the damaged box issue is still being looked into, and the only place to get the 41999 set is from the Lego retail stores IF they have any left...

Should have asked then how they managed to get on the TRU site.

Given that the description for 41999 on TRU was for the MBA set no doubt it was an error.

^That's an interesting catch; I didn't previously notice that (although I wasn't lucky enough to order one from TRU, so it doesn't matter much for me). However, $199.99 would be an awfully big mark-up for any Master Builder Academy set, even for TRU. It will be interesting to see if TRU actually ships any of the 41999. I'm assuming some people here will report back...

Or because TRU has an exclusive Technic License they could have gotten 500-100, you do not know, so assuming that TRU should not have these because they are sold out at LEGO I think is premature at this point

I just received my shipping confirmation from S@H. I order mine on Friday.

^It's been gone since at least Saturday night (at least for me in California). That's when I panicked and had to run out to a store to grab one.

I feel bad for the people paying $400 last week when they could have ordered one from Lego and just waited a few days.

I feel bad for the people paying $400 last week when they could have ordered one from Lego and just waited a few days.

I think the crashing of the Lego S@H site had a lot to do with the panic buying. Then, to compound matters, S@H completely removed it from their site.

  • cloaked7cloaked7 Member Posts: 1,448
^ I understand it to some extent, but have never liked the way S@H only lists current sets. When a set is gone, it's gone. And, I mean gone! :-) Has me scratching my head at times - 'Did they really make that set? I can't find on the LEGO site anywhere!'

^ he he.... You got that right! I first used brickset to look up information on a retired LEGO set, because LEGO doesn't provide anything like that. And, I'm still here today. Years later. :-)
  • TheLoneTensorTheLoneTensor Member Posts: 3,937
It's listed as sold out, but at least the details page is back up on S@H.

    It did exist!
  • BrickarmorBrickarmor Member Posts: 1,258
I'm curious: did anyone who ordered while it was back ordered receive a cancellation?
  • nkx1nkx1 Member Posts: 719
^I ordered two (backordered), but have not received a cancellation email (yet). I fully expect to receive that email any day.

Odd thing is, they sent me a shipping confirmation for the free Mini Mech V39. I was bummed when I figured out the shipping confirmation was for the Mini Mech and not the 41999 sets.

I got my two "backordered" sets today. Funny thing is that even with the outer box being fine the set boxes were not perfect. One was mildly dented in and the other looks scuffed all over the front. That makes three mildly damaged boxes in a row! Not sure what is going on with these things but I'm afraid if I try to exchange these I won't be able to get replacements.

I've never once before had a problem with sets ordered from S@H but now all three of these sets I've ordered have had problems!

^I'm sorry to hear your luck with the boxes. But if TLG doesn't want to exchange it with you, I surely will step up to the plate and refund you the full amount plus pay for return shipping. Sounds good? =)

Id hate to see what they wouldve been like had amazon got ahold of a few!

Talked to a buddy up in NY a little earlier and he said the Lego stores will be getting some more in on the 28th or 29th and will not be selling anymore online and they are enforcing a ONE per customer limit...
  • CrowkillersCrowkillers Member Posts: 757
My wife just said there is also a buzz on bricklink about this... Take it for what it is worth...
  • ShpadoinkleShpadoinkle Member Posts: 420
@pitfall69. I'm good with what I have, just dumbfounded that S@H had so many problems shipping these when they have been stellar in the past.

Since I'm a MISB collector, I've decided to let TLG hold onto mine for me. They've promised that I'll be able to check in on it on their website for a bit before they permanently transfer the live web feed to a 3rd Party repository owned and managed by a Huw Millington somewhere in the UK. I'll post the link once they provide it to me.

Got mine today, box is in immaculate condition. Not a dent or scratch on it.

My order was never processed even though the transaction is on my credit card. I called S@H today and they confirmed what I knew all along :( I had to have them call my credit card company and get the temporary authorization taken off my card.
