    I made the rounds today and 2 of 7 Walmarts had stuff on sale at 30% off. Heres what I remember. SW: #9500, #7965 (MF), #9492 (TIE), #75004, #9498, #9496, #9489, #9488. LOTR: #79001, #79002, #79008, #79010, #9471, #9473, #9474. Creator: #5766, #5767, #7291, #7345. No Friends or Superheros.

I found a set that I have been wanting for a long time marked down to $49.... #9500 Sith Fury-class Interceptor..... They also had the City Mine set for $70
  • DadsAFOLDadsAFOL Member Posts: 617
Went two two Wal-Marts, and one had Weathertop for $40 and #3065 Olivia's Treehouse for $13, both good deals. The other had a bunch to LOTR redtagged for RRP and one Mine for $69. Definitely YMMV on this one, but worth at least checking.
  • Thanos75Thanos75 Member Posts: 1,120
I checked out three WM's today and each one had piles of Weathertop for $40...unfortunatly so do I. If they drop lower I will pick more up.
  • tamamahmtamamahm Member Posts: 1,987
I didn't really find anything. I'm not sure I need anything, though, at 30%. The only item I found was the Hobbit/Warg set. It was marked to $38. Nothing else was marked down.

    That's the score right there.

They were only on sale at one of the stores I checked. They had three more sets but I only picked up the one. Not sure if its a good investment or not. They have been sitting on the shelves at $72 for months at every Wal-mart down here.
  • ckenda1ckenda1 Member Posts: 121
Checked the biggest Walmart in my area and they had stuff in the clearance aisle, but all of it was red-tagged at RRP. Same stuff that's been sitting there for 4+ months.

found #6862 for 35% off. For $13 I picked up all 7 they had. Too cheap to pass up for the minifigs alone. Superman, Lex and Wonderwoman, all 3 of these versions are only available in this set. It should do well once it retires.

    Passed on $49 #6860 and $35 #6868
  • emilewskiemilewski Member Posts: 482
2 stores had nothing but the third had a bunch at 30%. I got 2 unexpected gatherings for $49. I wonder if I should have gotten more but left three.
  • Thanos75Thanos75 Member Posts: 1,120
I really think I'm going to hold off on more Wal-mart purchases. The stores around me are packed with sale stuff....One literally has a skid of Unexpected Gatherings and Weathertops. What are the chances that they will be further mark downs on the sets?
  • DavidBrickleyDavidBrickley Member Posts: 376
I think it really depends on what your tolerance is for losing out all together. I don't get to shop around as much as I used to, so when I see a deal like I did this morning (Ultra Sonic Raider for $54), I'll grab it. If I see one again for maybe half off, I'll likely see it in the next month or so, so I can buy it and return the one I got today. If it doesn't get reduced further, I'm no worse off than today; I don't see it at all, then I would have missed out.

I don't really collect Star Wars so the deals that everyone is posting about now don't really appeal to me. At 50% off, they might, but if I'm not there to grab them when the price changes, no big loss for me.
  • starfailurestarfailure Member Posts: 138
My Walmart (which I generally do not have very good luck with) surprised me with some decent clearance deals today. Though, some items were sold out already.
    Sith Fury-class: $49
    Gungan Sub: $40
    Tie Fighter: $35
    Shelob Attacks: $13
    Gandalf Arrives: $9
    Moria Mines: $55

maybe a couple others I'm forgetting.
I almost bit on the Gungan Sub, but.. Jar Jar Binks.
Came away with just a $7 planet set that the kids don't have yet.
  • starfailurestarfailure Member Posts: 138
BTW, I haven't seen any 79003 sets on clearance in my area, but if I did, I'd have trouble not picking them up.
  • BuriedinBricksBuriedinBricks Member Posts: 1,367
saw most of what @starfailure listed. They also had the helicarrier escape, two face chase, and seaside house at $35.

    Geonosian Cannon-$13
    Droid Escape- $13
    Ultra Sonic Raider-$54
    Garmatron-$30
    City Patrol car- $7
    City Dirt Bike transporter-$13
    Excavator transport-$30
    Flying Dutchmen-$17

    Heartlake Vet
and most of the other ones already posted
1 Walmart had clearance stickers, 2nd was just getting clearance stickers put up when I walked in, 3rd- no discounts at all.
  • pharmjodpharmjod Member Posts: 2,916
No walmart has had them in stock, but #9515 is down to $64 at many of the ones around me. Also, the $40 Gungan Sub is a good price. MSRP is $79.99 and while I realize MSRP was too high on that one, the Queen Amidala figure is not likely to be repeated anytime soon.

One smaller WM by me had these, included prices and rough stock levels. The three bigger ones usually don't mark down as quickly but I'm going to check one or two tomorrow.

NOTE: The sets were not tagged, and were not in a clearance isle. They were in the regular lego isle, with red tags on the shelves only. the Sets themselves were NOT tagged. All rang up correctly.

    Star Wars:

    #9488 Elite Clones BP - 9$ (~10)
    #9489 Endor BP - 9$ (bought 3, left ~6)
    #9490 Droid Escape - 13$ (~5)
    #9491 Geo Cannon - 13$ (~5)
#9496 Desert Skiff - $17 (Bought only one, none left)
#9497 Republic Fighter - 25$ (Bought the two they had, none left)
    #9498 Saesee Tiins Fighter - 21$ (~5)

    LOTR/Hobbit:
    #79000 Riddles for the Ring 7$ (~3)
    #79003 Unexpected Gathering 40$ (at least 15)

There where a couple Chima sets, then about 15 Different City sets marked down. I didn't write down the city sets but they were all 30% off retail.

I MIGHT be willing to help if someone wants anything, depending on the user and what they want. (If you want City sets I can try and get a list sometime this weekend) I might also need the money up front (Being refunded if they are out of course) Just cause I'm pretty tight ATM and dont want stuck with a bunch of stuff. Also don't really want to buy and ship 60 sets to stockpile a re-seller so please be reasonable if you make requests.

And as long as you are willing to pay the ride, I'm fine shipping to the UK or elsewhere in Europe.

I saw it on clearance at the walmart by me, I forgot what price though...

Most of the stuff I saw was close to 50% off,

    I picked up:

riddles for the ring for $5
    Sponge bob Flying Dutchman $13
    Batwing Over Gotham $20
Unexpected Gathering $38 (they had 2 and I wanted to grab both but when I grabbed the second one I realized it was MUCH lighter than the first box and then I realized the seals were broken and the box had been glued shut. Also by the sound of it, the bags inside had been open as I could hear individual bricks sliding inside)
    Uruk Hai Army $16

    They also had
    chima craggers command ship, $43
    Z95 headhunter $27
    Republic striker class starfighter $18
    Bug Obliterator $42
and some random city stuff I didn't bother to check

A Walmart near me had Jabbas Palace for 64.00 but somebody beat me to it.
  • BuriedinBricksBuriedinBricks Member Posts: 1,367
Hit a second store, with pretty much the usual suspects that have been reported at 30%. Finally managed to snag an Unexpected Gathering at $49, along with a few Christmas present sets.

Seriously tempted to go back and pick up a few of the Two Face Chases I saw at the first store today. Any guesses on how that will do long term? (I know, wrong thread)

^Bullish for all Wave 1 sshhh...

How bullish? I mean, I don't think I can go wrong at 30% off. I would probably pass on the Helicarrier, since that set is pretty bland after you account for the hulk.

  • BrickDancerBrickDancer Member Posts: 3,639
My guess is 2.5xRRP at 1 year past EOL. If you factor in 30% discount, that works out to roughly 4xInvestment.
  • DoubleDDoubleD Member Posts: 488
The Walmart here has a lot of jabba palace for 64
  • DoubleDDoubleD Member Posts: 488
I guess I need to go back and grab those to trade on here

Baltimore MD area stores having sales between 27% and 40%. Most sets already mentioned here. The 40% is the small mining truck 4x4. RRP was $11.97, clearance for $7.

Picked up Gungan Sub($40, prolly could of waited oh well), Droid Escape($13) & Endor Trooper Pack($9, always need more droids and troopers) in Montana. Had to pass on everything else. I already buy enough as it is, lol.

They also had some Lotr/Hobbit stuff as well, Urakai set was $21, Unexpected gathering($49) so tempting. Also the space bugs and Lego fire plane stuff were on sale as well. Also, Ninjago Samarai Mech at $30 looked pretty awesome. I have been waiting on Battle over Gotham to be like $25 and my store didn't do it... >_> I did get the Batmobile for $35 a month or so back maybe that's why. ;) Have fun out there everyone!
  • CircleKCircleK Member Posts: 1,055
My Wally World had all the same sets previously mentioned. They also have the current x-wing marked down to $40. I can't decide if I should pick a couple up for resale or not as I don't normally deal in SW. So far, I have only picked up 1 Battle over Gotham for $25.

I stopped in at one WM on the road today. The best deal was The Malevolence for $64, though they were all sold out. It looks like they had already discounted the set and then applied the 30% clearance discount on top of it. I'm not sure I would have jumped in even at that price.
  • FatMattFatMatt Member Posts: 502

^Yep, I passed on a Malevolence for $64 yesterday. Frankly, it is one of the most ugly Lego sets imo.

So has anyone compiled a list of what is on sale yet?

Unfortunately these sales are tied to:
    The region
    The individual store
    The management within that store
The pricing team in that store

No such list is possible except on a per-store basis.
I really wish they'd establish some sort of guideline that all stores have to stick to. Around here Lego clearance, except for the end of year clearance, is pretty much non-existant as far as decent discounts.

I waited months to try to catch Frog rush on a decent clearance($7 isn't deep enough for me, $5 range would of been) but it never went down that far. It took months just for it to go from 11 to 7. Never got it since the sets vanished w/o warning. the clearance aisle's

Then they'll let sets sit for weeks(as in at least 4 weeks) of the same discount level w/o discounting further.

For those missing out on some of the Walmart sales: #79003 An Unexpected Gathering has been in the neighborhood of $55 on amazon for months now (with free shipping). They also have a bunch of other Hobbit sets on sale.

^^ that is how I feel about target they never have anything below 15 percent. Where I live the smaller walmarts seem to do it twice a year, but the bigger ones may not have any at all.
  • ckenda1ckenda1 Member Posts: 121
I just talked to the toys lady at one of the 2 WMs close by and she said only 2 small sets went on clearance and to check back on Tuesday or Wednesday. She said they haven't had their "mass clearance" yet basically. This seems to be true of the other WM too.
  • margotmargot Member Posts: 2,308
@doubledbrick ,the forest police station is on sale on amazon right now.

Went back to my Walmart today and realized only half the sets that were on sale were marked. So make sure you price check!

Grand Forks, ND - nada on sale. Scanned a few just to check.
  • margotmargot Member Posts: 2,308
a lot of things on sale at Walmart.com . Not quite as discounted but almost.
  • pharmjodpharmjod Member Posts: 2,916
I think one of the reason sets sometimes just disappear at Walmart is that (at least around me) the stores will periodically have a 50% off any red tagged item in a certain department or in the clearance aisle. It typically happens during the day and only for a few hours. You either have to know someone at the store to find out when this is happening or just get lucky. I imagine that clears out most if not all of the product when those promos do occur.

I can't believe any of you have passed on the Malevolence for $64. Even with tax you are talking essentially $0.6/piece with the General Grievous figure alone being close to a $20 figure. You could probably sell off all of the figures for $30-$40 and have just the parts for a bargain at that price. Half off of RRP for a large set like that is a no brainer if you want to resell later on or if you want a parts pack. Just my opinion though.
  • Thanos75Thanos75 Member Posts: 1,120
I have a curse when it comes to clearance sales and the 50% off point. I tend to pick and choose when its in the 15% -40% range but once I see that magical 50% off sticker its going home with me. Doesnt matter what set it is. So yes I am now the proud owner of 6 #3817 Flying Dutchman sets....told you its a curse.

    Reselling Perspective:
For a lot of people, it just doesn't make sense time wise to part-out sets. And while it is true that at 50% discount the risk is minimal, unpopular, regularly discounted sets like these can just languish for a long time. Also, there are a lot of much better sets to be had right now. No one has unlimited funds.

Getting parts for a bargain generally only appeals to those who MOC. I do not. So it has to be either a keeper set or resale set and the Malevolence doesn't qualify for either in my case.
