Wal-Mart is bringing back layway

I was informed last night that wal-mart is bringing back layway for Christmas next month. So if you cant afford the expensive lego sets it be a good time to put them in layway and pay it through time.

Nice.. not too surprised as Sears/KMart is already doing this but it is, in a lot of ways, better than credit. Heck it was the way many people bought things before the credit industry took over in the States

That's a welcome change. Good to hear.

This is a mixed bag of nuts for me. On one hand its good for parents who need a bit of help to buy christmas for their kids. On the other hand it is bad because it takes stock off the shelf that I could be buying. The only time it would really bother me though is if there was a great sale but all the sets were back on layaway shelves and I couldnt get to them.

What are the fees usually associated with layaway?

In my experience there are no fees. Unless you dont complete your purchase then they usually have a 10% restock fee or something. That is the reason they stopped doing it in the first place. It required a lot more warehouse space and it took product off the shelf that others might buy outright and they basically made no extra money for the effort. It was mostly a convenience thing for customers who might not have bought at all.
