Well rats, my post doesn't make any sense in the new context. I thought this only ever happened to other people.

Castle 1984-1992 is complete and all are boxed (+display trays)
    Castle 1996 ditto
Fantasy Era and Castle themes after...
    (+ some other castle stuff)

    Pirates 1989,
    Indians (Western),

    Winter Village,
CMFs (no Mr. Gold, or GB Olympics)
(getting tired of these and will probably just concentrate on the must-haves)

    Getting there with
    LOTR and Hobbit
(but don't really want to bother with Azog and the likes
plus I also don't like some sets so it probably won't go anywhere near 100%
as I would prefer to e.g. get the ewok village for my forestmen and elves
    rather that the Orthanc...)

(These aren't all necessarily my favorites but I do have all of them)
    Monster Fighters <3
    Hobbit/ LOTR <3
    The Lone Ranger
    TMNT
    Spongebob (figures <3)
    Harry Potter 2010-2011
    Star Wars 2012-2013
Can't include Superheroes because I'm in need of a Spidy and Superman set (not including exclusive figs Xp)
and CMFS Series 6/7/8/9/10 (No Mr Gold or Team GB)

    Monster Fighters
    Hobbit/ LOTR

Again here, it comes down to what is complete?

Do you (not necessarily aimed directly at you @HarryPotterLover) have for example #5000644 in Monster Fighters. Do you have exclusive Azog for The Hobbit? Do you have the #LOTRSWORD sword from the Lego store, and the sticker sheets that you could win on the quest in store ...?

What people think of as complete is going to be different from person to person.

As far as sets are concerned, the only one I ever completed 100% was the Dino 2010 range (Dino Attack outside Europe). I was 11 when that stuff came out though, and it's one of the smallest themes, but I guess that counts.

But right now, I'm one of only a few AFOL attempting to get the entire LOC range. It was only launched this year, but it hasn't stopped Lego pushing 50 sets out of it already. I probably will call it complete when I get the last 8 'proper' retail sets.

Right now, as it stands, my LOC collection is 78% complete (it's my second most complete collection, beating Ninjago sitting with 65%), including all winter wave sets (I'm yet to get any summer ones) and all but one of the polys, including the Brickmaster (missing #30255 that's all, anyone got one they don't want?).

But some people wouldn't consider my definition of 'complete' as theirs. There will be some that say "Well, hold on, The One Veyronian, surely your LOC collection is incomplete until you get all of them, including #6031640 and #6031641 which (imo) are the hardest to find" (actually, I'm wondering if anybody at all has either of those sets, I might take them off your hands)

Some may even extend the definition of 'complete' to Gear too. But I don't think many would regard that as part of a collection, that's a whole separate can of worms if you ask me. Best use Brickset's list to define what you still need to finish a collection. Even then, it's up to individuals to decide what is complete and what isn't ;-)

    Just my 2 pence.

Super Heroes and Tmnt. Although I have all the minifigs, I don't have all the sets. So I guess it's not really complete

The only theme I have complete is Monster Fighters and that really isn't my favorite theme. If you go by sub-themes, I have 29 100% complete there. I still don't have all of the 9v train sets yet, 7 sets to go there.

I dont consider those kind of things fair game to all, so I consider a complete set as having all of the SETS.

    Zero complete :(

But actually, I don't mind that much, which is strange for me as usually I am quite the collector.

(Unless we're counting CMF, then 4-7 are complete :P)

    Aqua Raiders
    Prince of Persia

Wired enough I don't really have the "completeist" inside. If there is a crummy set in a theme - I prefer not to have that set. Same with minifigures.

Zero themes, and I don't think I ever will. There are always sets I find underwhelming in any theme, no matter how much I love that theme, and I'd never buy them for the sake of it. I'd rather give pride of place to a select few sets I truly appreciate than to detract from them with those I don't care for. I do tend to feel the completist bug when it comes to minifigures from a particular theme, but that's a different matter.

I think you should buy what you want: Trains, Buildings, Cars etc!!

But I try and by a variety of Lego sets: #10217 (Detailed Buildings)
#10230 (Micro Buildings) and #8018 (Tank)

Collections come after because it the same things over and over again, however a particular theme I wanted to collect is Lego Harry Potter it never worked out I only got 5 Lego Harry Potter sets!!

I'm complete for alien conquest and Pharaohs quest themes. I am complete in a few city sub themes too but there's just way too much. On the CMFs front I have 1-9 complete too.
  • Steve_J_OMSteve_J_OM Cork, IrelandMember Posts: 950
Hang on a minute, I just realised that I completely lied above. Being that they're not on display full-time I forgot about the Winter Village, the sole theme that I have completed so far. I'm an absolute sucker for Christmas so it would have to be a serious dud for that not to continue.

I have all the modular buildings (though the first two were bricklinked with a few substitutions. Still aspiring to have all of the 12V trains, though prices for those I haven't got are in a perpetual upwards spiral!

Having just got delivery of the King's Battle Chariot (#7078) today I'm now delighted to say that I'm now complete on the Fantasy Era Castle sets, which was the theme that brought me out of my dark ages.

I'm only a Bumblebee Girl (and a Mr Gold but I'm not worried about that) away from completing the CMFs as well.

I am complete in Modular Buildings, Moster Fighters, Minecraft, and Galidor. I only need Mr. Gold to be CMF complete.

    Currently:

    Modular Buildings
    Winter Village
    Master Builder Academy

I don't complete much as it is rare that an entire line is worth owning. You have only so much space and $$. Also my modular line will be sold off soon, at least MS-GG anyhow.

    For me, it would be...

    Modular Buildings
    CMF
    Master Builder Academy
    Winter Village
Marvel Super Heroes (pretty sure I have all of them)
    Monster Fighters
    Ninjago Spinners

My son has all the SpongeBob sets but he'd never admit to it.

Not necessarily a series but I also collect the exclusive figures from Comic-con and Toy Fair.

I have only one theme complete ( Monster Fighters ), but I do have 30 sub-themes complete. Oddly enough I don't have my favorite theme complete, Trains. I only have 91 sets to go before that is complete.

If we are counting Winter Village as a theme then I am complete there too.

We have 100% TLR, all of the Friends building sets, but not the picture frame, jewelry, etc. Am short one MF promotional poly. 100% Winter Village. Have all of the Modulars as well.

Modular Buildings, Pharaoh's Quest, Alien Conquest, CMF - Mr.Gold, Winter Village, Dino, Monster Fighters
  • dougtsdougts Oregon, USAMember Posts: 4,129
    Winter Village
    Alien Conquest
    LOTR
    Hobbit
Friends (all boxed sets, all collectible animals). also have most polybags, but don't consider those essential to be "complete", as they are generally promotional items

after AC, I made the decision to only buy sets I like from future themes, not just buy all of them in order to be complete. Thus my Galaxy Squad, TLR, Monster Fighters, Dino, and others aren't complete by my own choice.
  • CircleKCircleK U.S. - Columbus, OhioMember Posts: 1,055
I've mostly shaken off the need to complete although it is a constant struggle. I still complete LotR and The Hobbit, mostly b/c I think the sets are iconic now and will be even more so in the future. I also don't expect those themes to repeat after the last Hobbit movie is released.

Outside of that I only buy what I like. It is very liberating not being bound to sets I really don't care for just to have a "complete" collection.

I owned all of the Toa Nuva and Toa Metru w/ the Vahki, borock, or whats they are called. Lost interest in Bionicle and sold it all for a good bit of money. I do have an extensive collection of City vehicles, big technic models, and CMF figures.

    I started off as a completionist and over time realized if I did sell sets, they would sell for more individually, even if I had 'the complete set' . I also noticed when I set up displays I wouldn't use every set or even every part of a single set. It has liberated me from spending on bad sets, rehashes, etc. this has obviously been a recent realization... My complete sets;
    Atlantis
    LotR
    Galaxy Squad
    Alien Conquest
    Dino
    Pharoh's Quest
    Cars
    PoP
    Toy Story
    Friends
    Ninjago up to current release
    Super heroes
    Monster Fighters
    Winter Village

Very close to having Pirates, Castle, mission to Mars, Indiana jones, and the modulars.

I have over 700 sets inventoried; and not even one complete theme!
Fortunately I can cite a few complete sub-themes.

Per Brickset's statistics as of today:

Lone Ranger, Monster Fighters, Rock Raiders, Vikings all at 100%
    Space is next-highest at 81%

I try to get at least one example of any given theme (usually the smallest or "impulse" set). My only themes at 0% right now are:
    Basic
    Boats
    CMF
    Creator
    Games
    Promotional
    Racers
    Sponge Bob
    Technic
    Trains

Proud to be a completist with:
    PRINCE OF PERSIA
One of the few themes where all the sets rocked.
Also got all the 2007 Aqua Raiders. Animals, divers, boats and colours were great.

I was an avid Star wars and LOTR Lego fan up until Comic Con 2013. It's almost impossible to get a complete collection in the U.K without paying through the nose for theses exclusives. So I gave up, and my bank balance is a whole lot healthier. I just buy what I like and I buy it when it is available at Dr Daves 30% rule. Don't get suckered into being a completest it will cost you a fortune when they bring out exclusives in the U.S.A and don't try to buy older set unless they are at retail it really isn't worth it.

I don't think, nor does brickset show that I have a complete collection of anything, although I know I have most of the "classic" Western sets, save for perhaps one or two polys or the like. Other than that I certainly DESIRE to have a complete collection of all classic pirates...so for that stay tuned!

I was LOTR complete but then I threw away a load of the boxes and mixed all the parts up. So I cannot say I am complete there. I can confidently predict I will never rebuild them all. Although I can say I did at least build them all once unlike sets from most series that go straight to my moc set.
