Sets that you want but won't buy...
I noticed through my years of buying Lego that there are always sets that I want but won't buy because of their theme, price, etc. Most recently, I find myself really wanting the LOTR and Hobbit sets. I'm not a fan of LOTR by any means which is what is frustrating, because most of the sets are incredibly designed. I bet fans of the series are in love with these sets considering how much I fancy them as a non-fan.
Most specifically I want Helms Deep, Unexpected gathering, Council of Elrond.
I also like the Lone Ranger sets, mainly the train and the stagecoach but had no interest in the movie.
Also, I really love the Ninjago minifigs, especially the Green Ninja, but I know that buying one will have me collecting the whole theme.. Sigh..
How about you guys?

But it's also a set I don't really want to buy at the moment, for these reasons:
1. It's £100.
2. I don't have £100 lying around for it.
3. None of the minifigs are exclusive, they're all in cheaper sets
4. I have all the minifigs from it already, why do I need copies?
5. Isn't it going to be half price if you wait long enough? I'll wait until a figure-less one pops up on fleabay for a good price.
6. I bought Orthanc instead :-P
It is overpriced: Taj Mahal had nearly 6000 pieces and cost £200 which was a bargain, This set has half the amount of pieces but is nearly double the Taj Mahal price!!
I will pick this up only if it is under £250 (Being Reasonable) But for now I could pick up: #10220, #10225, #10226 and #79003 for £350 instead!!
Would also go for chima, sets not speedorz, but can't start another theme or else would have to go out and get the lot!!! So tempting at the mo too as they seem to be heavily reduced in most places :-)
I also want a #10221 but there is no way I'm paying £350 for it. If I see it with a 20%+ discount I'll bite, otherwise I think I'm gonna have to pass.
LOTR and the Hobbit are two more themes for me. Part of me wants to collect the lot but I'm not sure I can justify the spending!
So it's one thing to like the sets, but I think you really need to be a fan to make it worth the investment. That's part of the problem with this Lego addiction. It's compulsive. I say stick with a budget and focus specifically on one or two themes that you really, really like and really want.
But if I did have the money my top priorities would be Hogwarts, Diagon Alley, and all of the LOTR and HOBBIT sets I'm missing, in that order.
Then I would buy every other set released in the catalog, even Friends and Legends of Chima. :}
I would also like to start collecting the Modular line, but with so many other smaller sets coming out (Marvel/DC LOTR LR) it's hard justifying spending £100+ for any one set at the moment.
As the majority of the LEGO in the house is mine, it wouldn't be very fair of me. I'll just have to wait until my birthday I think and get just one set (modular) rather than a few smaller sets.
I would also want to buy every set, ploybags and SDCC exclusives etc!!
a) I'm an old-school SW fan
b) It has an incredible version of my favorite character, Boba Fett
c) The set is actually something I could realistically afford
The reason I DON'T buy it is:
Although I certainly had the opportunities to collect Lego SW from the beginning, I didn't and the fact I've missed so much has lead me to the decision to collect other, more recent licenses that I could (in theory) collect all of.
Lego SW has drawn me back to it again and again but this time I'm...going...to...resist!
(Why do I have the feeling I'm going to buy this set the next time I'm at WM with an extra $30?) :}

I bought Desert Skiff because Amazon had it for ~$16. Since then, I've bought #7965 Millennium Falcon, #9489 Endor Battle Pack (x2), #9492 TIE Fighter, #9493 X-Wing, #9678 Cloud Car, and #75003 A-Wing.
But, some are very old, like the various Aquanaut et cetera sets that probably cost a ton on the secondary market. I did love the underwater theme so, but... Perhaps not enough to track down old sets. Enough to wistfully imagine those dioramas at Toys R Us when I was a lad, though. (I suppose you'd say I'm still a lad, at 21. Relatively short dark ages, I know.)
I won't buy Ewok Village.. I just don't like the look of it or the figs, and ROTJ is my favorite episode.
Hard choices hey ?
I will probably pass on the Tower of Orthanc and the Ewok Village. Wish I had passed on the Malevolence.
Unexpected Gathering has the opposite problem. Love it, but I don't collect the theme and have decided to pass.
@Chesney107 - If we're talking about sets that we regret for not getting, mine would be #7199 The Temple of Doom.
As for me, I keep staring at the Fury Class Interceptor and think it looks just amazing. But I'm not into the Old Republic and am already 2 modulars behind. I feel similarly about the Chima Gator Boat.
One thing I've learned, though, is to decide on a set early and don't look back. Otherwise, doubt creeps in, sales appear and republic credits will do just fine.
But I am still deluding myself into thinking I might buy it :o)
-Death Star (#10188)- I want it, but I don't like it. Doesn't make sense, I know. I think I would like individual dioramas a little better, like the trash compactor or the detention block. I know, I'm in the minority. And minifigs do nothing for me, so who knows.
-The Quinjet from Avengers (#6869). Love the movie, love comicbook movies in general. Hate the jet. But I still want the set. Now that I saw it on clearance at a local Target, maybe I'll grab it finally.
But the two 'pull back racer' sets, #42010 and #42011 I just can't get any enthusiasm for. Silly thing to say about Lego, but they seem like toys, rather than construction sets.
The completist in me says 'It's less then £30 for the pair, just go and buy them!', but I don't know.
Maybe I can find something interesting to do with the pull back motors...
The hull is ONE PIECE. Just for the sake of allowing the ship to float in the bath. Great for kids, but I'm not sure what sort of parent is going to pay £70 for a bath toy imo :-P
Personally, the set would have been much better with a brick built hull. Not dissimilar to Destiny's Bounty from Ninjago (and that ship was cheaper). (I'm not helping to sell the croc boat am I?) :-)
Back on topic, I can't help but look at the Silver Mine LR set. I so badly want and lust for that mine (I like rocks), but gut instinct tells me to wait since I'm sure it will go on sale for half price in the near future. My goodness, buying Lego is hard in that case.
