I can't take credit for the skylight. That was in the original kit in close to that configuration. It was two-panels wide instead of three, but it was hinged and hanging pretty much at that same angle.

The Bat Signal I'm kinda proud of, though. I've been wanting to add one since I started fiddling with this police station MOC, so I was happy when I figured out a method.

The police station looks great Styer. I'm about to try something similar with the Bank & Money Transfer. Got 2 during the Target clearance/BOGO50 and am going to get started on a modular version.

I'm liking the police station, ever since I bought the station I have been planning to alter it into a modular station. You design gives sme great inspiration

Thanks. I picked up a couple banks, too, and I got the building part of modularizing them done last night and this morning, but I don't have the interior kitted out with furniture yet and I don't have near enough tiles to do the sidewalk, but I should have a bunch coming from Pick-A-Brick if that order ever ships. I did the bank as my first corner build.

I have been thinking about doing some modular MOC's and I keep thinking that It would be cool to do it on a larger scale using the 48x48 stud base plates. Anybody know if this has been done before?

Toying with the idea of actually doing large scale versions of the current modular line up.

  • graphitegraphite Member Posts: 3,275
^ I haven't seen anyone upsize the current modulars but I built my train station MOC on a 48x48, but it is to scale of the other buildings. I just wanted it wider and wanted the back part to stick out from the other buildings so that I could have the track going through the building.

My CoastguardHQ is deeper then the standard modulars and it covers two 32x32 baseplates

I just read through the entire thread, there's some really great stuff in here. Convinced me to get LDD just to start messing around with concepts!

Having finally received the 1x1 tiles I needed to fill in the sidewalk, here's my Modularized Bank & Money Transfer. It's built from two copies of the set picked up from the Target sale, with some additions from my parts bin:

Does anyone have any good resources on inside corner buildings? I can't seem to find any.

Ok, editing to add in the pictures makes it better I suppose.
I don't really think it needed its own thread when we already have discussions relating to modular buildings and modular Lego stores.

But this this is just about on one particular Modular Building?!
  • HokieJoe99HokieJoe99 Member Posts: 351
The price per piece is too....unknown. Let us know how many pieces so we can decide if we want to buy it. Also proofread your description since this is coming straight from LEGO rather than some random user on a message board. Oh wait! You fooled me.

I think it's a good start. It needs a little more color... Maybe the flooring could use different colored tiles? I do love all the micro builds throughout the store.

This is just my opinion, but I think the building is too colorful and bright and would look out of place with all the other Modular Buildings.

Something like this is more my speed, but it may be too modern for the Modular buildings line. That is, if you want it to be a prominent corner building.

As far as my idea for a Lego Store is this store in Paris. I'm already building an arcade and this is what I imagine my Lego Store to look like.

^ That looks like it would fit right in with the modular line, for sure. I really do like the concept of the microbuilds above as well.

Very nice Sam. I love that there is so much detail in such a small space.

I bet there isnt a speck of dust on the floor in that shop.... I am really digging this design, and think it works rather well with DA in mind.

The only thing I ask (and, really when does TLG make sense in their designs?), How does one get to the upper portion/attic/supply room?

    @jasor- Thanks for your compliments!

You'll notice there is a brown ladder in about 3 of the pictures (laying down, unconnected to the buliding. If you look at the second floor, you'll see a piece that connects to the ladder giving easy access to the second floor.

Picture 9 (the last one), shows the ladder connected to the piece.

They could always take a broom to the top floor too
  • graphitegraphite Member Posts: 3,275
^ maybe its the adult only broom section and they could just apparate.

Nice! Are you going with red for the exterior? If you want to add Zonko's joke shop in the future, the Diagon Alley might look too red. :-)

For the stairs, how about the folding stairs from the Haunted house?:-))

  • pillpodpillpod Member Posts: 273
Are those grey bricks with the ridges (grills?) all going to be like that? Maybe consider replacing a few with masonry bricks. In LDD I use those grill bricks to act as masonry bricks because LDD doesn't have the masonry ones (as far as I know).

    Looks very nice. Good job.

The great thing about that, is there are so many people that have the right answer! And they are so so so eager to put the truth out there... ;)

Sad part is, I SAW the ladder. I just didnt do much cognitive reasoning there.

I'm a huge Harry Potter fan and I have made my own version of Quality Quidditch Supplies in the style of the Lego Harry Potter Diagon Alley (10217):

If you would like to see more Harry Potter MOCs let me know and I'm willing to create them!!

^^meh, on the Diagon Alley. I dont mean that in a , well, mean way. Just that it has a way to go before it gets there. I may not have even inferred it was a HP MOC w/o you saying so, and where are all those wonderful brooms?

^ I really like both of the microbuilds. What did you use for the columns in the TH?

Thanks for all the feedback on my Quality Quidditch Supplies. I especially like the tip to include some mortar bricks in the building.

Here is two more that I have created within the past day or so, Owlery and Wizadry Supplies. More feedback/comments would be great as I continue to try and improve these!

That photo takes up the entire resolution of my monitor, and I shudder to think that most people use a lower resolution. I think it was kind of excessive to post both the head-on view and one that is just slightly askew.

May I suggest any future posts instead have just a couple images accompanied with a link to an offsite platform like flickr for those interested?
  • samiam391samiam391 Member Posts: 4,506
@rocao- The head on view was meant to show the store displays in the windows, which the askew view did not accomplish very well.

I've deleted them (4) to comply with your fair request. I realize that in my attempt to show as much detail as possible, I may have gone a bit overboard in the amount of images I've uploaded :o)

  • jasorjasor Member Posts: 839
@samiam391 -- Your interiors are immaculate IMO. I really cant think of anything (I tried).

Owlery -- The top of the bay window, to roof --needs something. Maybe a same color trim going all the way across, maybe a half step roofing. Cant put my finger on it, but there's something there.

Wizarding Supplies -- I <3 the recessed portion from the exterior. It makes a huge difference in the stacked versions.
  • Pitfall69Pitfall69 Member Posts: 11,454
It does. Although, both those buildings to the left of Quality Quidditch Supplies are not supposed to be to the left. Eeylops is supposed to be to the right and Madam Malkins is on the left. The Wizardry Shop is across the street. According to the movie.
  • Pitfall69Pitfall69 Member Posts: 11,454
In theory, these are not Modulars, but they would be put together to form a row of buildings just like the current Modular line.

Any windows or parts that stick out from the side would not work because the buildings wouldn't be able to snap together.
  • AdeelZubairAdeelZubair Member Posts: 2,710
I wonder why Lego just chose Ollivander's, Borgin and Burke's, Gringott's Bank because the architecture is very similar and would very boring to build the other buildings!!

However Lego had the potential to give us: Quality Quidditch Supplies, Flourish and Bolts and Weasley's Wizard Wheezes.
  • Pitfall69Pitfall69 Member Posts: 11,454
    edited July 2013
Alot of the buildings are similar, albeit different colors and hues, but that is how a lot of the shops were back in the day. If you look at city blocks now, you can see the buildings are similar, but may have a different color or type of brick.

Borgin and Burkes isn't even part of Diagon Alley.
  • Pitfall69Pitfall69 Member Posts: 11,454
Another thought: I'm sure there is a reason for "cookie cutter" buildings. You would want the same floorplans and elevations if you wanted to construct buildings faster.
