Very annoyingly the MF is limited to 1 per customer. It was going to be the cheapest way for my friend and I to get one.

Seriously what a con, it's not just the MF that is limited to 1 per customer, but also the Frigate and Sith Infiltrator, gave up trying any more as I was too annoyed by Boots.

I'll just wait for the prices to drop by 33% on Amazon for these sets instead.

Very poor if you ask me. Its not 3 for 2 on all toys, its 3 for 2 on all toys with various exclusions. Most of the larger lego sets have this limit on it.
I guess its probably in place to stop people using Boots as a cash & carry for high value stock for internet stores on bricklink & ebay, so maybe its fair enough, but they should be clearer.
It therefore penalises many of us genuine fans who would easily buy a few copies of the same item as collectors, or who might want to club together with a friend to get copies of the same item.
Having said all that, I wouldn't have bought 3 Millenium Falcons for the sake of saving an extra £10 or so against the current lowest market price. lol

frustrating, but I like the small car at 1/2 price :) and free delivery to store (plus advantage card points)

don't forget 3% quidco cash back too
  • squizsquiz Member Posts: 13
would you recomend quidco? I had a look and signed up but it seemed a bit dodgy to me
  • MinifigsMeMinifigsMe Member Posts: 2,844
oh, it's totally legit, but totalcashback is also good, and doesn't charge a £5 a year fee (which comes out of your cashback, not upfront) but I'm kind of ingrained with quidco now, so tend to stick with it. I've had nearly £1000 cashback over the last few years, but most of that is from car insurance etc...cashback, I tend to forget when I'm buying stuff!

I'll second S_S, Quidco is totally legit, it's been around for years and is actually quite a sizeable operation these days, in fact it's pretty much cornered the UK cashback market.

Quidco is great for purchases from companies that Brickset is not affiliated with, but of course, remember to use the Brickset links for those that it is affiliated with ;o)

The 3 for 2 may now be working without a restriction. I've been able to order 3 MFs. The order has been validated, so only awaiting dispatch. Hopefully I should receive them soon.
  • richoricho Member Posts: 3,830
That's great news Jabba, let us know if you seal the deal successfully.

£88 average price I make that, well done!
  • atkinsaratkinsar Member Posts: 4,272
Indeed the restriction does seem to have been lifted. Now then, anyone going to STEAM this year that wants to team up to get the following, looking for 2 other people otherwise it doesn't work:

    7965 MF for £88.66 ea
    7962 Podracer for £54.66 ea
7961 Sith Infiltrator for £39.99 ea
    7964 Frigate for £68.66 ea

That's a grand total of £251.97 if you want all four. All of these prices comfortably beat Amazon at the moment.

The STEAM reference is to get around the postage issue, I could bring all the sets to STEAM and we could make the trade there.

    Anyone?

Nice timing, since I recently signed up to the Boots affiliate programme and have started posting links ! It'll be interesting to see whether they honour these orders, but the early signs are promising - good luck, guys !

There's not reason they won't, Boots are pretty good. My 3 firestations for 90 got shipped. Plus with 10% back in points and a bit of quidco cashback, it's a good deal.

Shame I'm not into Star wars

^ There's a very good reason they won't - the website clearly states only one 1 item per buyer.... That having been said, if your stuff got shipped and Boots haven't cottoned on to the fact that their restriction isn't working, others may also benefit - let's see....
  • richoricho Member Posts: 3,830
I wonder why the algorithim prevented 3 identifcal purchases last week, but this weekend started to allow it, despite the disclaimer?

@Savage_Steel, You appear to have put the Firestation out of national stock. lol!!!
  • drdavewatforddrdavewatford Hertfordshire, UKAdministrator Posts: 6,619
^ Did you try to order last week ?
  • richoricho Member Posts: 3,830
Last week it would only let you add 1 item to the basket, even if you selected more. Now it lets you add and proceed to checkout, although I havn't actually gone ahead and bought anything, as I can't quite justify it when I got the Falcon a few weeks back.
  • MinifigsMeMinifigsMe Member Posts: 2,844
ooops - sorry about the firestations, clearly I've got them for selling on as well. *am a bad person*

Boots is well known for having lots of ridiculous glitches, where they practically pay you to take stuff, and they rarely if ever cancel things, unless they are genuinely out of stock. If it allows you to checkout, I'd be very surprised if they don't send you the items.

Don't forget to get an advantage card, it's normal rate is 4% in points to spend at boots, but often chucks in a lot more or has special offers. I've built up hundreds on there in the past, and bought myself a nice new camera. It's not effort to add and if they keep the lego deals coming, could even pay for more lego for you in the future.

    Any left??
  • atkinsaratkinsar Member Posts: 4,272
^ I've had no interest thus far, so yes 2 spots still left.
  • LegoboyLegoboy 100km furtherMember Posts: 8,828
I shouldn't but it's by the far the best of the 2011 SW sets and one I've liked from the outset. Sarah will kill me I think. Can I let you know nearer the time.....although STEAM's not that far off is it!?

Just heard from a guy who had his Boots 3-for-2 order cancelled, so it looks like a bit of a lottery....
  • atkinsaratkinsar Member Posts: 4,272
^^ ok cool, I still need one more person in on the 7962 before I buy, I don't want to be stuck with two, Anyone?

^ sounds like it may not work anyway!

^ He's waiting to hear back from customer services, but given that the website is clear about the restriction, they've every right to enforce it I fear. Not good news at all, particularly if the likes of Argos and TRU start doing this too, which I think they might - remember the hassle Huw and others had getting multiples of the PotC sets from TRU earlier this year ?
  • atkinsaratkinsar Member Posts: 4,272
What's strange about the Boots offer is that last week it was being enforced by their e-commerce system, and this week it isn't. EDIT - just tried it again now and the limit is back in place, you can't put more than 1 in your basket so must have been a temporary glitch.

Certainly makes the 3for2 offers less appealing, to me at least. I would guess that if this policy results in less stock shifting, they will soon change their minds.
  • richoricho Member Posts: 3,830
If I hadn't already bought a Falcon at circa £105, I would have given this some serious thought.
As it turns out though, I am not too bothered about this offer.
Last year one of my friends who is a collector got 3 x Slave Ones in a 3 for 2 Toys R Us promotion, and he ended up getting in a big debate with the store manager at the till. It still went through ok, but yes, as atkinsar says, I wouldnt be surprised to see these sort of exclusions become common place.

Hi. Just to report I managed to order three Falcons Monday morning before the website was corrected. Been waiting today for a shipping confirmation and its just arrived. I guess I've been lucky.
  • SirKevbagsSirKevbags Fairy Land Member Posts: 4,030
Just some info on the Boots packaging for anyone that's interested.

Very poor. Just placed into a plastic courier bag so the top left hand corner is a little damaged. Nothing major I suppose but not a box I would lift off the shelf. Is this typical of online deliveries of lego? Also only one delivered, the other two are on a different van.
  • chakinochakino Member Posts: 159
A bit off topic to recent comments but i went into my local boots and although they had few lego left, they had 8093 for 6.64 so i bought one for me and my nephew .
  • SirKevbagsSirKevbags Fairy Land Member Posts: 4,030
The other two just arrived. One plastic sack for both and then inside strapped together with pink packing tape!
  • drdavewatforddrdavewatford Hertfordshire, UKAdministrator Posts: 6,619
I'm sorry to say that's Boots for you; we've discussed their shocking shipping practices on the forum previously if I remember rightly. I will only order from them for collection in-store for this very reason.

Forum moderator Martin had the same "pink tape' experience last year and even posted a picture of his Creator Sonic Boom sets taped together. He complained, if I recall, and got some recompense....
  • SirKevbagsSirKevbags Fairy Land Member Posts: 4,030
I've just come off the line to them and I'll be getting a 20% refund. So after the 3 for 2 I wasn't supposed to get and an extra 20% off I can't really complain ;-)
  • drdavewatforddrdavewatford Hertfordshire, UKAdministrator Posts: 6,619
^ Good work, fella - that should take away some of the pain !
  • Jabba_the_TaffJabba_the_Taff Member Posts: 211
Mine arrived in store today. Three separate plastic packs. All boxes in good condition. A weekend of building awaits....
  • MinifigsMeMinifigsMe Member Posts: 2,844
my firestations are here, all in one big box, seem to be in good enough condition, some minor scuffs, that I'm sure occurred in the warehouse. Building fun to come!
