I enjoyed Lego as a child. 3 years ago my son started showing interest. Since then we have:

    342 sets
    47355 pieces

    US$5012.

However, this is only data from brickset, doesn't include our own bricks and creations.

And is it "10 different" lol. I've had a total of 8 DA, but only have 4 left now.

I'm not sure what I'm at, as I am lazy with updating my Brick set list. I also don't add any sets that are for re-sale.

Can someone point me towards somewhere you can catalogue minifigs as well as sets?
  • plantmanplantman Member Posts: 97
According to Brickset: 363 sets, 101.478 pieces, 1072 minis. Although I have all the boxes, instructions and extra pieces, every single set was built and on display at one time or another (at the point where one set has to go into storage for every new set going up).
I had the entire line of Ninja (not Ninjago), Kingdoms and some older Castle sets (all complete with boxes) but sold them off. The sewer backed up into the basement of my old house and these were all - submerged. Luckily they were all that was down there. Someone gave me $300 to go down and take them all - I figured, what the hell, I don't want to scrub them all up. Just the thought turned my stomach...
I still have a few more in a storage unit but I can't even remember what they are - might dig them out this spring.

@Beav Go to the home page and in the top right corner where it says sets, click on the arrow and select minifigures. Then enter the theme you want to search.

Subtract the sets you intend to sell......that's how big your collection is.

    ^ This... :)

If I included my inventory, it would be rather large, but that is pointless, it is just inventory, not a "collection".

    160+ sets 90% Star Wars 60000+ pieces.

BTW is there a way to add qty to the database? I have multiple of some sets and have not seen a way to add the qty?
  • oldtodd33oldtodd33 Member Posts: 2,728
^ When you check the "I own " box, next to that is a box that says "1", click on that box and enter the amount you own.
  • jediami65jediami65 Member Posts: 474
Thanks oldtod33... guess I'll have to go back to each one I have multiples off.

43 sets and 11055 pieces out of my dark age since Christmas with some old space & castle from when I was a kid. Maybe I should point my lovely lady to this thread next time she says I have enough Lego already!

605 sets (comprised of 146212 pieces) and another 75K+ pieces in inventory for MOC's or other stuff. Lots of Star Wars, all of Atlantis, bunch of Construction, some other stuff added in (doesn't include the Friends sets that my daughter owns)

I am nearing the 1000 set mark. I have 201,392 pieces in sets, plus at least another 200,000 loose parts, and lastly, 2509 Minifigures. On top of this, I have about 30 sets which I am waiting to sell, so those do not necessarily count as part of a 'collection'.

Is there a record that we know of? I imagine there must be one or two Brickish members who have every set since 1970 or something of that sort...

I have 168 sets (inc 13 duplicates) and just over 88k pieces. I could say I live in a two bedroom house but since they are both full of lego it's more a 2 lego room house.

I'm only 19, but I own (or have owned) over 500 sets with over 80,000 pieces and a retail value of nearly £8000. I was actually gobsmacked when I registered all my Lego sets for the first time last month and saw exactly how many I had or can remember having from my childhood.

What's more incredible is that it all packs into my bedroom which is about 20 square metres in area. I'd estimate that I have about 200 sets currently built and displayed or about to be, including my 'small' collection of keyrings.

And yet, I tell myself I need more! I mean at this very moment I'm contemplating an Umbaran MHC to add to my display.

Pity my parents think I'm 'too old' for Lego and I need to stop buying it. I choose to take their advice by completely ignoring it! :-) You are never ever too old for Lego when you're an AFOL! :-D

I have always thought it would be cool if there was a feature on this site that would compare you to other collectors. It would tell you what percentage you fall in in categories like number and value of sets, and number of elements. And you could see your rank. It would be fun to see yourself rising in the ranks , or keep you on your toes if you start to slid. I know this is not a competition, and no one wants it that way, but I think it would be a satisfying feature.

Brickset currently has me at 35 sets (34 different) totaling 13685 pieces. That includes a MISB Hancock Center I plan on selling or trading at some point, but doesn't include the incomplete sets and assorted extra parts. (Or the enormous chest full of childhood bricks, but I just found out I'm about to become an uncle, so someone else will be inheriting those.) So I'd estimate my collection at around 15000 pieces, which either means I have some catching up to do, or that I can show this thread to my partner and say "See? It's not nearly as bad as it could be."

Hm. So weird. So many people have twice my number of sets, but only half my number of parts. Is everyone in this thread a polybag collector or what?

Anyway. 320-ish sets here, 130k-ish parts, plus 40k-ish loose. CMF not included, but I only have a couple dozen of those. Nothing to write home about.

Also, I'm not a reseller and not an investor, so with very few exceptions those sets are all open, and with fewer exceptions still they are all different. My collection actually is a collection, and actually is mine. Sorry, person with 80+ Diagon Alleys, you will have to get off my lawn.

My goal is to have as many different parts in as many different colors as humanly possible. I am quite literally a collector by that definition as well.

So even though my LEGO barely occupies two Billy bookcases, I am in a very comfortable position already. Whenever I'm building something and arrive at that point of "wouldn't it be nice if I had [rare part X] in [impossible color Y] to fit right in this spot", I just make two steps, grab that very part off the shelf and use it. It's luxury. Pure, distilled joy.

After adding my Train Station and new Family House that I built today I have,
    SETS: 328
PIECES (not counting huge random brick lot, currently sorting) 126843
    FIGURES: 990
My new goal is to get to 1000 mini figures and since I have mostly everything I liker thats currently out, I plan to reach that goal after saving up this month for the new SW sets!
  • graphitegraphite Member Posts: 3,275
Looks like I'm up to 557 sets, 167,862 parts and 1392 minifigs. The parts count is just sets. I have 67k parts in my Bricklink inventory which is where I'd pull from when MOC-ing and probably have another 35k in unsorted used parts and loose parts I have sorted already for different projects plus all but about 5 or 6 parts for cavegod's UCS AT-AT and the 20-25k parts in MOCs I already have built.

132 sets, 83 of them actually being listed, with a piece count of 71,802. This of course does not include MOC's, Brinklink, and LUG orders. It is not a huge collection, but it is growing. I do only collect O/T Lego Star Wars sets and the occasional TOR set(s).
  • EKSamEKSam Member Posts: 349
We have 133 sets at 45302 piece count, pretty modest and not at all bragworthy. :-)
  • jlbbluejlbblue Member Posts: 54
I have 1272 sets logged on Brickset and still working through the piles. My guess is around 1500. The bad thing is 99% of them are not opened. Have probably 200k of loose bricks as well. My son has around 200 sets. Most of his are actually open. He wants to become a Brickset member, but not sure at age 9.
  • BeavBeav Member Posts: 303
Never fails to amaze me how hardcore some of our members are, hundreds of sets is incredible, for the space it must take up more than anything else.

My minifig-only collection passed 300 figures last month. Wooh.
  • LusiferSamLusiferSam Member Posts: 574
I thought I had given an up before now, but I guess not. I've passed a couple of important milestones since my last post here. By my best estimate I now have 1177 sets. Early last year I cracked the 1,000 set mark. Star Wars is now the majority of collection at 18%, followed by Castle at 16% and CMF at 13%. Castle had been the majority since about '89. In the long term I'm sure Castle will take over again, but it will be a while. CMF is on tract to become number 2 next year and number 1 in 2015 if they keep making them.

I've also added a couple of items that aren't sets as we know them. I picked a near complete Ferguson tractor (it's missing a screw) that's in very good shape, no noticeable warpage. And a couple of Klodsen sets. These are the wooden block sets from the late 40's. I've got 18 and 36 block sets.

A little over Fifty Gallons... But only half that is sets, the other half is loose bricks from eBay deals and charity shops. Been slowing down a little to get better organized.

  • BuzzsawBuzzsaw Member Posts: 79
    128 sets (103 different), 384 minifigs, 43324 bricks, plus about 500 more from PaB'ing
  • TheOneVeyronianTheOneVeyronian Member Posts: 1,372
I should add to my previous 'brag': Brickset tells me I own (or have owned) 527 sets, 476 of which are different (I buy a lot of HF duplicates for my MOC action figures and digital art creation). And I've earmarked another 21 to buy this year... when they eventually turn up in retail stores. My wallet wants to grow legs and run away at this point!

And at 19 years turning 20, I think I've got an impressive personal collection, and it's only getting bigger. I'm not into the MISB and reselling game, unless I see very rare sets turn up cheap, or they're polys (I tend to keep some of those MISB after learning their typical aftermarket value!)
