City Corner Re-release

CalvCalv Member Posts: 904
I notice on the home page today that set #7641 City Corner is being re-released as #60031. Its good to see this set coming back - another Lego bus for my collection! and it should sit nicely with the new town plan set. I wasn't aware this set was returning, any idea on release dates?

I got surprised as well, but i guess it is good to see it! looking forward for a release date as well

^Thanks for posting. I love this set. The kids play with that yellow bus all the time.

The bigger news would be that Lego is re-releasing a previously retired set, as an exact duplicate. We have rarely seen that since the days of the Legends series.

Good thing I did not sell the old one :D
  • luckyrussluckyruss Member Posts: 872
On the one hand, this seemed a popular set with kids at the time and I see has also been selling at quite a big premium on the secondary market, so can see there would be demand.

However, on the other if this is true (and isn't some form of either error or spoof) it would seem a very odd decision alongside the new Town Square set #60026, which also has a bus, a pizza shop and a bike shop (plus the somewhat out of place crane). I guess they are at different price point but cannot help thinking that one would cannibalise sales of the other.

^That even makes this that much more baffling. Nothing listed at [email protected] I'll believe it when I see it there.

    I would certainly buy both.

60031 was found in the image library for the survey that you're encouraged to do in the back of the instructions:

Must admit, a re-release does seem strange...
  • PicopiratePicopirate Member Posts: 325
It seems very strange especially with the availability of #60026. Both sets offer a bus, pizza shop, bike shop, and kid on a skateboard. My guess is #60031 was considered but eventually replaced with #60026.

Maybe the pizza place sells Starbucks. It's apparently ok to have two of those on every city corner.

I have to say I am not a fan of the re-release. It devalues the original significntly. I guess my few #7641 won't be worth squat anymore.

I can't wait until they retire the FB at the end of this year and then re-release it in 2014.

I am very surprised, but I think it's a good thing. But instead of re-relase of "City Corner", I would have preferred a re-relase of "Café Corner"... :-)

Only half joking here... #60031 must be fake because the picture shows baseplates!

This would seem more plausible if #60026 wasn't just being released. I think #7641 is nicer (especially the bus in it) and doesn't have a redundant crane to drive up the price so I'd still be happy with it being re-released though.
  • CoolsplashCoolsplash Member Posts: 935
I think we will be seeing re-releases more often now....mainly in non-license themes which is also good for us City collectors :P

I think the City Corner was great. I am no longer a Lego Classic Town fan, but I still love the bus.
  • RonyarRonyar Member Posts: 373
I missed on it the first time around, so I'm not complaining. I do agree with others who question the release of it when it appears to be redundant with a newly released set though.
  • iancam33iancam33 Member Posts: 407
@hardrada: I agree with the bus looking better in #7641 though the new one is still nice none-the-less.

If in fact this set is a re-release, then this might be a test of whether a new set with similar features to a classic set or the classic set itself will sell better.

Classic? 379 is a classic, 7641 is merely a few years old

Same here. And even though my Pacers lost the series, I think it was worth it just to see LeBron throw a tantrum and make an idiot of himself in Game 6.

Yep but how many new sets come with baseplates (other than modulars)? The fact that this would pretty much be the only current set with baseplates makes be doubt the authenticity.

Do Creator Houses come with baseplates?
  • dougtsdougts Member Posts: 4,110
^ the older ones did, but the last one to have them was Apple Tree house. Log Cabin, Lighthouse, Hillside House, Seaside House, the Red Shack, the Treehouse, and the Family House all come with regular plates - the new Family House actually has 2 16x16 plates along wth 2 16x18
  • CoolsplashCoolsplash Member Posts: 935
The new Creator sets i.e. Treehouse and Family house are amazing btw...

    And it still has baseplates!
  • dougtsdougts Member Posts: 4,110
I am just completely perplexed by this whole thing. Of all the sets made in the past couple years, re-releasing this one has to make close to the least amount of sense, given that they are already releasing a brand new set that is extremely duplicative to this one.

I can only think of two possible explanations:
    1) there is some piece or pieces unique (or semi-unique) to this set that LEGO has in large enough quantity to warrant re-releasing the set to dump them off (the baseplates maybe?)
    2) they are cancelling the production of #60026 for some reason and pushing this out instead as a passable replacement.

    I dunno. just really weird.
  • briziobrizio Member Posts: 31
I don't think they are cancelling 60026: it's already available for order in Europe from the [email protected] site... Anyway I have to admin I am really happy to see this back!
  • luckyrussluckyruss Member Posts: 872
#60026 is in the stores in the UK, so it's not cancelled (unless it's going to be cut to a very short run).

It's in a big thick box like #4207; has the look and feel of a big substantial set (more so than #7641 did in the thinner box).

the "unique" parts TLG may have a lot of left over : definitely the 8 x 16 baseplates!

It seems strange to reissue a set just because you have too many baseplates. I'm surprised they don't just add them to online PAB.
  • rolvtdrolvtd Member Posts: 52
And here I thought finding the old one at TRU tax price last month was a special day. Ah well, I wanted the set anyway.

Could be that some retailer wanted a LEGO City exclusive out in time for the holiday season and TLG didn't get notice soon enough to design a brand-new set, so they looked at what sets they could re-release on a budget. We don't know for sure whether this is a retailer exclusive, but it wouldn't surprise me.

City Corner is a good set. My family already has one but I don't mind the idea of a re-release one bit.
  • RHansenRHansen Member Posts: 1
Spotted the set in a toy store here in Denmark.

    http://www.br.dk/Brands/LEGO/LEGO%20CITY%2060031%20Gadehjørne.aspx?id=878568&q=60031

It is being advertised as a store exclusive (which is fairly rare in Denmark).
  • HardradaHardrada Member Posts: 439
Wow, so this is real after all? I was expecting this to turn out to have been a weird comedy of errors. Very surprising news. I just got a used one three months ago but I'm still happy about this. #7641 is one of my favourite City sets from the last few years. The yellow bus is gorgeous.

(This still doesn't make much sense at all seeing that they just did #7641 on steroids - with regards to size and price - at the same time. Makes the decision to have another pizzeria and bike shop in #60026 even more lousy.)
  • piratemania7piratemania7 Member Posts: 2,146
Why oh why does this set continue to remind me of Billund? Ah the memories true and true to a small classic European town.
  • aklausenaklausen Member Posts: 1
I bought #60031 yesterday in a norwegian BR toy store. They had a sign "Only available at BR". Looks just like the old one, compared the instructions with #7641.
